Gruff Rhys - obviously knew him from the SFA. I've met him too.

Gruff (SFA)again as everything he does is genius. I've more in common with Bunf though.

Shamefully no.

This Is Hardcore by Pulp. A masterpiece.

Bruce Springsteen. A couple of DVDs. Have kept a few concert tickets too.

8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
Going to see them at Slane Castle. Watching people dancing like Mick. Singing mesmorized like Mick in Rocks Off at 4am.

Naw, Ryan Adams is a few years older than me.

10. When did you first get into 8?
Oasis. Back in 1995 when everyone loved them.

11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Badly Drawn Boy... too few people.

12. Which song did you first hear from 16?
Manic Street Preachers - predictably enough a Design For Life.

13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
Last Stop: This Town by Eels.

14. Which song do you not like by 18?
David Bowie - anything form his jungle phase.

15. Why do you like 14's songs?
The Beatles. Why would I not like their songs? The only reason I can think off is Ringo. But thats not enough to deflect away from their genius.

16. Where did you first hear 6?
At a student Disco. Red Morning Light was the song.

17. How long was 19 a singer before you liked them?
Arcade Fire - Not until they released Funeral. The EP before that was amazing but I only heard of them once Funeral came out.

18. Does 13 have a song that gives you a bad memory?
No - Ive only liked them for a couple of years and its all good memories. Especially going to see them live and a friend telling me about meeting J Mascis after the gig who was having a cup of tea.

19. When did you get into 17?
The Verve - When I heard on Your Own on an indie compilation about 1996.

20. How long have you been into 9?
Radiohead - since 1995 and The Bends came out.

21. If 11 had a concert 300 miles away, would you drive there to see them?
Smashing Pumpkins - probably not thsese days. Saw them on their last tour and it was half brilliant half awful.

22. How many CDs do you own of 12?
Just one - some cities. Obtained the other 3 albums by other means.

23. Does 21 have a song that makes you cry?
Ash - no but many that make me want to be 17 again.

24. Stone Roses - many of them do. Great memories of I am The Resurrectiona nd student discos.

25. Does 23 have a song that makes you smile?

Neon Neon - that whole album is great fun.

Boo Radleys - something from their debut album when I was doing a random listen the other day.

The Coral - most of their songs but not on Last FM probably.

I've been playing Mark Owen´s solo music "in heavy rotation" for the past few weeks. Especially album leftovers. And found myself admiring his clever songwriting. The more he practices the more skillful he becomes at it. He truly has some talent for songwriting and his own style. Take optimistic guitar pop Live If You Try, or the britrock essence in Mr. You, or the psychedelic sadness of Home...



I dig Jaywalker. It has even stronger Scissor Sisters vibes than Shine. Plus satin vocals and quirky lyrics. The way he pronounces "Cosmopolitan" twists my stomach. He has always been such a trend whore, lol. From what he sings to what he wears.





Makin´ Out

This wasn’t initially a song that sparked my interest when I not so long ago got my hands on his last solo album How the Mighty Fall (yes, the one with the athlete’s foot cream poster on the cover, lol). I fell in love with Believe in the Boogie, Waiting for the Girl, 3: 15 and Wasting Away. But after hearing Mark himself get so enthusiastic about it and the UK radio DJs praise it, Makin’ Out started to steadily grow on me and I’ve come to the conclusion that it was a fitting choice for a single. It indeed sounds exactly like Mark describes it – liberating and summery and has a slight barbershop feel to it. He’s becoming better and better at making catchy choruses flirt with quirky verses and possesses an excellent sense of melody in general. Besides, it's kinda like Badly Drawn Boy gone sexy, which is very stylish.





Good For Me is Mark's indie anthem of, well... porn. He leaves it open for ambiguity as he´s used to doing with his whole image since the early Take That days. I feel sorry for those poor gay guys getting teased mercilessly. Naughty, naughty Markie.





Meanwhile, Shine is rising to a hit status in Europe...
It's weird reading reviews from all kinds of prestigious music magazines like Q and NME raving about how amazing the single is. It's all been there already, under your noses, on Mark Owen's solo albums! If you'd have bothered to actually LISTEN to them.



Honestly... the best thing about the band reforming is the renewed sense of pride and dignity for all the lads. Even healing, like Mark mentioned. Whether there is success or not... the four of them needed to get back together to do emotional healing. There have been too many wounds caused by the general public and by the media throughout their periods of solitude. They need this friendship now more than ever.







Mark has also said that Celebrity Big Brother served partly as therapy. Getting out there and interacting with people again. That to him it was one of those "1000 things you have to do before you die" type of offerings.





In Mark's logic... 1000 things you have to do before you die must be then: work in a bank, work as a teen model, try for Manchester United, regroup with your old boyband, be a vegetarian, be a Buddhist, sleep with groupies, do drugs with Robbie Williams, have lizards as pets, record indie music, take part in a reality show (oh, and win it) and obviously... have a baby.

I need to add that Mark (solo) DOES have fans... but the problem is that we're scattered around Europe or even the world. Unfortunately there's not enough of us in one country to help him get in the charts in there. I DO want his solo stuff to be more successful, of course I do. But to be very honest... I've never thought that being "big" in a sense that Robbie is, for example, suits him. Mark is not the superstar type. He is the type to be one part of a superstar group like Take That, but on his own, no. And thank god he's too down to earth for that. What's wrong with being indie? He can both earn millions with Take That (Elwood's college money) and satisfy his more "edgy" audience with his solo projects.
