I haven't done an entry here in forever, so I figure what the hell. Top fifty most played artists time!

1. How did you get into 29?
Primal Scream
No fucking idea. I probably heard about them in some magazine after Vanishing Point, because that's the first album of theirs I owned, though.

2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Suede
It was more of an album-- Coming Up. I think my friend bought it first; at the time we were living on allowances (bear in mind, I was 16) and so we had to sort of all pick an album and get it and then pass it around to feed our ravenous habits. I remember falling in love with Filmstar, though.

3. What’s your favorite lyric by 33?
The Kooks
Er, not exactly a lyrics kind of band-- but then I don't have many of those. I actually really like the first line of Shine On, though there are lots of songs I like better. Safety pins holding up the things that make you mine. Or I have a certain character who likes it. Same thing.

4. What is your favorite album by 49?

I spent the last twenty-four hours chilling out after an infuriating mistake I made by typing ctrl-w instead of ctrl-z while using the French keyboard, effectively wiping out a painfully long journal entry.

OK couldn't be bothered to complete the last journal entry. One wonders why I don't keep blogs. I have this awful attention span, which surprises me that I'm even keeping awake to write this.

Reason being, I realise that my musical experimentation has been somewhat subdued in recent weeks, if not months. Upon tracing my recently added stuff I concluded that my only significant discovery by any measure is Autour de Lucie, and in particular their eponymous album.

Of course, I've rediscovered some of Camera Obscura's tunes after the fantastic concert on the 29th. I was somewhat disappointed half of what they played were the ones I didn't know and didn't like so well, but I now love Razzle Dazzle Rose and Come Back Margaret. So much so I deliberately do not scrobble sometimes so I can play them on loop and sigh at the heartbreaking lyrics of and melancholy trumpet on Razzle Dazzle Rose.

I'm so happy I went.

i re-scanned some old concert pictures taken during the black sessions between 1998-2000.
a bit boring to scan all these images again but the pics were so so small on the website (looks like the screens and the resolutions are better nowdays ;o)

Cette semaine, j'ai écouté la groupe Autour de Lucie. C'est intéressant qu'il y a si beaucoup de femmes qui jouent de la guitare en france. À mon avi, un grand problème avec la musique pop améicaine est que les femmes ne jouent pas d'instruments. C'est rare qu'on chantent bien. C'est dommage. Je suis contente de voir les groupes comme Autour de Lucie avec des femmes qui font plus de chanter. Autour de Lucie

Vin d'honneur (playlist)

Imaginez. Vous prenez tous vos CDs de votre bibliothèqye . Vous les écoutez un par un. Dans chaque album vous cochez les morceaux que vous préférez.
A la fin il vous reste une playlist plus ou moins longue, qui se fait représentante (un peu) de votre collection.

C'était 150 CDs à peu près dans mon cas, et c'est dur de trier dans les albums des uns et des autres. Surtout que comme critère de sélection,y avait aussi que ça puisse rester comme une musique de fond, d'accompagnement, pas trop dépressive non plus, d'où le sacrifice de certains artistes, ou albums qu'on écoutait beaucoup....

Je dis on, parce qu'en fait, ce travail, on l'a fait à 2 dans un but très précis ; on voulait avoir une musique de fond lors du vin d'honneur de notre mariage. Je pouvais pas imaginer ne pas mettre de musique; lorsque j'invite quelqu'un chez moi, y a toujours de la musique, toujours, que ce soit la radio, ou un CD choisi en particulier.

Du coup on a pioché dans tous nos CDs, et on en a ressorti cette playlist.

Sourcing my library...

(I’m only scratching the surface really, since I have between 6k-7k songs on my iPod and 35k on a separate hard drive that I don’t even want to look at...)

But anyway, sourcing my library… I have several tags that are nation-specific. I didn’t tag stuff US, UK, or any other (primarily) English-speaking country (yet), but here are my favorite acts/albums by country:

ibiza – My ibiza tag is pretty voluminous, so I won’t go there. I did go to ibiza a few years back, and as seen on my dashboard, I love the chillout, cafe del mar-type music.

As far as world music goes, my favorite artist is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He passed the year I moved to Hawaii, and his life still is much celebrated over there.

I seem to listen to a lot of DJ-type music from germany:

trance DJ – Paul Van Dyk (tag: pvd)

and germany is also the birthplace of one of my favorite classical composers - Johann Sebastian Bach. …
