  • My Personal Top 100 Songs - Part III

    Dez 22 2009, 17h22 por NitrousBlond

    Here is part III.

    79. Merciless Death

This has a really kick ass bass solo in the beginning. This is a really aggressive and violent sounding thrash metal song. I love it!

    78. TocarUnadulterated Hatred

This is one fucking heavy song. It is quite tremendous. This makes me want to fight someone and beat them to a bloody pulp.

    77. TocarConquer All

This is another fucking heavy song. It has some really guitar riffs. The guitar solo is awesome as fuck.

    76. TocarWorship Depraved

This is a cool thrashy sounding death meta song. It's pretty damn sweet and it probably the best song Arsis has ever recorded.

    75. TocarSadistic Abductive

This is yet another fucking heavy song. There's a mini bass solo in this song and it's really crazy. This fast, heavy, brutal and awesome!

    74. Alison Hell

This is one great song. This song has great vocals and guitars. It totally rocks! Way to go, Annihilator[/tag]!

    73.
    TocarIn the Wordless Chamber

I like the vocals, guitar and keyboard in this song. It is one epic song by Emperor. This is definitely my favorite song by 'em.

    72. TocarRock You All Around The World

This is one catchy song. It has a really catchy chorus. The vocals are really excellent. I love the first guitar solo in this song. There's a really well executed pinch harmonic in there.

    71. TocarVengeance Unleashed

This is fucking tremendous and heavy! I'm mostly into the rough sounding version of this song. It was available on their official homepage a few years ago.

    70. Bestial Invasion

The guitar riff in the beginning is classic. This is definitely my favorite Destruction song.

  • Neckbreakers Ball Antwerp

    Nov 2 2009, 12h32 por Tyranno85

Sun 1 Nov – Neckbreakers Ball

Sunday 1/11/09 Neckbreakers Ball.Scar Symmetry, Arsis, Behemoth and DevilDriver.

It all started out at the Station in Essen(B) were we waited for our train to take us to Antwerp. In the train itself we came to the conclusion, it whas 'The End Of The Train'.

Once arrived in the not-so-great city of Antwerp we decided to walk towards Hof Ter Lo Trix. After being certain we where lost we were actually 500m away from it. Arriving there Arsis already started playing their first song so we quickly ditched our jackets and went inside.

Arsis played really great, most of the songs were from their debut album: A Celebration of Guilt, but also We Are The Nightmare and TocarA Diamond For Disease came by. To bad they only played for 35 minutes.

After Arsis we went to take a fresh air, Scar Symmetry was not really on our list to see but we saw a few songs.

Behemoth whas really great. From the first song till the last they really played like Hell (and thats a compliment). The pits where awesome and it was great.

Between Behemoth and Devildriver we got into a little discussion. Wich song will be started with. I thought it would be End of the Line but they were like 'nah, it will be Before The Hangmans Noose'. We waited and the first song started. The most epic intro you could imagine. End of the Line.

The pits were brutal, the music was heavy and the crowd went crazy. One huge circle pit and alot of croudsurfers.

This was one evening to remember.

  • The Black Dahlia Murder "Deflorate" Review

    Out 21 2009, 3h27 por Jordan1124

    http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-16267-Charlotte-Metal-Music-Examiner~y2009m10d20-The-Black-Dahlia-Murder-Deflorate-Review

When TBDM announced lead guitarist John Kempainen would be leaving the band, I was pretty disappointed. To me, TBDM has some of the catchiest riffs and vocals in modern death metal and I was a little worried a new replacement might change things up too much. Then I heard Ryan Knight from Arsis was to be the replacement and was pretty relieved, being an Arsis fan. I expected him to bring some a new flavor to the band’s demented sound but wasn’t sure how it would turn out. Deflorate builds off Nocturnal’s mold of melodic brutality but speed things up quite a bit, especially with the new leads. I don’t think anybody was expecting the band to change drastically and with Deflorate that’s not the case. All the things you like from a BDM album are intact.

The production is similar to that of Nocturnal, it’s very clean and crisp. The vocal’s seem a little more on the raw side, there aren’t as many vocal effects being used. Trevor’s maniacal higher pitched shrieks are just as outrageous and his demonic growls are still just as powerful. As with previous albums, one of the greatest things about his vocals is the way he pronounces the lyrics. The opener “Black Valor” brings us to a blood stained battlefield where sickly Trevor toasts “To the unwavering, devoted to the dark, I drink these wines of majesty to you!” Musically, it opens up with a melodic bit of riffing before the blasting begins. Listeners probably will not notice much of a difference from previous work until the solo kicks in. It’s a pretty powerful track and one of the first ones that really caught my ear. The first single from the album, Necropolis is certainly another highlight with it’s great intro wail by Trevor. The way he changes pitches in the first twenty seconds is always entertaining and the chorus of this one will be howling in your mind for weeks.

"A Selection Unnatural" explores the mind of a mad scientist observing a horribly deformed child. This track and "Death Panorama" are very high paced and reminiscent of “I Worship Only What You Bleed” from Nocturnal. To be honest, a lot of these tracks seem like they could be found on Nocturnal and don’t really push the boundaries too much. "I Will Return" is probably the only track that really separates itself from the rest of their discography. The dual guitar intro wouldn’t be out of place on an Amon Amarth album but it soon mutates into a black metal-esque riff. The subject matter is interesting as well, it deals with cryogenics. The solos throughout this track are awesome and probably the best on the album with "Throne of Lunacy", a hymn to Cthulhu, close by. While Kempainen was a great guitarist, some of his solos sounded very similar. At very least, Ryan Knight brings a lot of variation to the solos on this album and add some more technical flair to the shredding.

Deflorate will exceed the expectations of some and I don’t think any fans will be disappointed unless they really wanted a big change from the band. From what I have read, the band was a lot more focused and everybody had more say on this album. I think you can notice that throughout the album that but I still half agree with fans who claim this is Nocturnal 2.0. So in the end; no, it doesn’t surpass Nocturnal. If that bugs you then you might feel let down by this album but who doesn’t want more of what works so well?

    The Black Dahlia Murder, Arsis
