I have recently begun listening to Slipknot since I got their new album
All Hope Is Gone. Corey Taylor has the most awesome voice for screaming and singing, just thought I' say that. Since I have been listening to them, a few of my friends have been critisizing my taste in music, saying that Slipknot are emo, when in actual fact they're not. Ok, ok, a lot of their fans may be but that's just because it's more mainstream than the likes of
Dimmu Borgir or other metal bands. In actual fact I was talking to my cousin the other day and he couldn't believe it when I told him Slipknot weren't emo. People commonly just think of metal in general as gothic and emo and it really annoys me. For instance, my dad said to me yesterday that what I was listening to was verging on gothic and I was just like "what?". This obviously just emphasises my point. Metal is all just one genre to most people. They stereotype it being just emos and goths who listen to it.
You have to at least listen to it before you judge it so harshly. For example these are the type of people who just say it's all crap without listening to it:
"Metal's just all screaming and shit. Hey did you hear about the new
Justin Timberlake album coming out?"
"Yeah, but the new
My Chemical Romance album's coming out so I might buy that instead".
WTF!!!
In my opinion you have to listen to something a bit before you can say it's awful. I mean, I have listened to funk, dance, pop, punk, rock, and whatever else you can think of but I have judged them all
by what I've heard.
