Coming Out of the Fog

Petit, on me racontait que les esprits, bons ou mauvais, s’impatientaient dans l’ombre, que la voix leur manquait, qu’ils s’écharpaient ou bien veillaient sur nous dans un monde semblable à celui du Beetle Juice de Tim Burton. On gobe un peu près tout lorsqu’on est pas plus haut que trois pommes. 25 ans et une cure de cartésianisme après, je me dis pourtant qu’il se cache une figure céleste, une incrustation spirituelle dans cette voix, qui récite des boucles de mots, enmurées, au pas de la porte de la perception, entrouverte vers une libération, délicates, bientôt en gravitation.

Le tangible c’est qu’il y a du Pearl Jam, du Stooges, du Queens Of The Stone Age dans sur ce Coming Out Of The Fog d’Arbouretum sorti chez Thrill Jockey Records en ce début d’année.

Ja ja, ich weiß…. das Album hatte ich bereits in meiner letztjährigen Top-10-Liste, da es eigentlich Ende 2010 im Online-Format erschienen ist. Allerdings kam es als Doppel-CD erst Anfang 2011 in die Läden, da die Band das Album komplett in Eigenregie kreierte und auch den Vertrieb selbst übernahm. Und wenn ich ehrlich bin, habe auch ich das Album erst in diesem Jahr in seiner vollen Gänze gehört und erfasst und was soll ich sagen… Obwohl ich Doppelalben ja immer kritisch gegenüberstehe („Stadium Arcadium“ anyone?) ist The Octopus für mich komplett von vorn bis hinten gelungen. Vom mächtigen Chor-Finale im Eröffnungsstück „Minion's Song“, über das stampfende „Interglacial Spell“ und das dunkle Titelstück bis hin zum abschließenden „Trading Dark Matter on the Stock Exchange“, der apokalyptische Soundtrack zur Weltwirtschaftskrise. Die zweite Platte übertrifft für mich sogar noch die erste. …
