  • My Vinyl Collection

    I've recently got my hands on a bunch of LP's and a turntable (of the cheap variety, I'm not a rich person). These will probably get played quite a lot, but - obviously - don't get scrobbled. I'm not gonna bother with scrobbling manually (I've seen some program floating around). But for those who are wondering, here's my collection:

    Albums (12")

    The Beatles (The White Album)

    (This one's currently taking a spin. It's just... Awesome, really.)

    Imagine

    Unknown Pleasures

    Closer

    Dark Side of the Moon

    Roxy Music

    For Your Pleasure

    Stranded

    (Those Covers, eh? ^_^ )

    Country Life

    Siren

    Manifesto

    Flesh + Blood

    Avalon

    One Step Beyond...

    Claude Debussy - Trois Nocturnes / Jeux

    Mozart - Symphony n° 40 - n°41 "Jupiter"

    Jan De Wilde - Vogelenzang, 5

    Er Sterft Een Beer in de Taïga

    Singles (7")

    The Beatles - Get Back / Don't Let Me Down
    The Who - Behind Blue Eyes / Going Mobile
    Alice Cooper - Elected / Luney Tune
    Neil Young with Graham Nash - War Song / The Needle and the Damage Done
    Kate Bush - TocarWuthering Heights / TocarKite
    Kate Bush - The Dreaming / Dreamtime (Instrumental Version)
    Siouxsie and the Banshees - TocarDear Prudence / Tattoo
    Eric Weissberg and Steve Mandell - TocarDueling Banjos

    I'll update this when new stuff comes in ^_^

    Update: New stuff came in!

    More classical music:

    Anton Bruckner - Symphony no. 4 "Romantic" (First Version)
    Antonín Dvořák - Symphony no. 9 "From the New World"
    Igor Stravinsky - The Firebird

    And this one:

    Garbage

    It's a limited edition box with six 7-inches :-)

    PS: I know this journal entry's not entertaining. It's not really supposed to be. I'm just really happy with this stuff, so I figured I might as well make a list. So there. I might, however, feel like talking a bit about these records, when I find the time.

  • All that you know is a lie

    Set 21 2009, 16h21 por Conservationist

    Reality is still out there, and you're in here. With me.

    Pascal is right in maintaining that if the same dream came to us every night we would be just as occupied with it as we are with the things that we see every day. "If a workman were sure to dream for twelve straight hours every night that he was king," said Pascal, "I believe that he would be just as happy as a king who dreamt for twelve hours every night that he was a workman. In fact, because of the way that myth takes it for granted that miracles are always happening, the waking life of a mythically inspired people -- the ancient Greeks, for instance -- more closely resembles a dream than it does the waking world of a scientifically disenchanted thinker. When every tree can suddenly speak as a nymph, when a god in the shape of a bull can drag away maidens, when even the goddess Athena herself is suddenly seen in the company of Peisastratus driving through the market place of Athens with a beautiful team of horses -- and this is what the honest Athenian believed -- then, as in a dream, anything is possible at each moment, and all of nature swarms around man as if it were nothing but a masquerade of the gods, who were merely amusing themselves by deceiving men in all these shapes.

    Friedrich Nietzsche - On Truth and Lies in a Non-Moral Sense

    You can touch reality, but only a part of it at a time. Therefore you can never experience it. Be careful representing the touch of an elephant's anus as a picture of an elephant.

    Allahu ackbar!

    NP: Anton Bruckner - Symphony No. 1in C minor

  • The Classical Composers You've Never Heard Of

    Ago 3 2009, 18h53 por voxstellarvm

    The Turkish Five (Turkish: Türk Beşleri) is a term used to describe the five pioneers of western classical music in Turkey. They were all born in the first decade of the 20th century and they composed their most outstanding music in the early years of the Republic of Turkey, especially during the presidencies of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and İsmet İnönü. They all shared contacts with the two presidents and were highly encouraged as such, both on a personal level and also through the general drive towards westernization in Turkey.

    I uploaded a sample work for each composer. Download and listen, I'm sure you'll like at least one of them!

    Ahmed Adnan Saygun

    Ulvi Cemal Erkin

    Cemal Reşit Rey

    Hasan Ferit Alnar

    Necil Kazım Akses

    Uploaded samples:
    Adnan Saygun - Sample from the 3rd Symphony
    http://r ap i d s h a re . com/files/263335224/05_-_Ahmet_Adnan_Saygun_-_Senfoni_3_Bolum.mp3.html

    Cemal Erkin - Symphony No. 1 - Scherzo (this one is my favorite)
    http://r a pi d sh ar e.com/files/263335223/03_-_Ulvi_Cemal_Erkin_-_Senfoni_No.1_Scherzo.mp3.html

    Reşit Rey - Estantanelerden Bayram

    Ferit Alnar - Scherzo for Violin and Piano
    http://r a pi ds h a re.com/files/263335226/04_-_Hasan_Ferit_Alnar_-_Keman_Piyano_Suitinden_Scherzo.mp3.html

    Kazım Akses - A sample which I don't have its' title... But this one is my 2nd favorite! 7.53 mins long.
    http://r ap ids h a r e.com/files/263335225/08_-_Necil_Kazim_Akses_-_Oda_Koncertosu_2.Bolum.mp3.html

    How to download? Just remove the spaces between letters.
    Also, these are for promotion only and samples! I'm not letting people download complete works of composers! These composers are hard to find anyway, even if I had the complete works I wouldn't share with anyone just because of this.

    I managed to find some of the works of Ahmed Adnan Saygun (classicsonline.com, bought it online) but having a hard time with other composers. Especially for Ulvi Cemal Erkin. I really like his Scherzo in Symphony No. 1 but that is all I have. Searched all over the web and couldn't find his symphonies... Same thing for the others. What I'm trying to say is, if you could help me finding these, I'd really appreciate it!

    Hope you like the samples. If the download limit exceeds, just say and I'll re-upload for you.

  • Síol Na Gréine - new album "Nihil" available as free download

    Jul 3 2009, 0h29 por radio_nihil

    Nihil, the newest work from Síol Na Gréine, is available now as a free Creative Commons licensed download.

    Nihil is a three movement pseudo-symphony transcending the boundaries imposed between the more artistically aware forms of popular music (ambient and underground metal) and the world of classical music. Filtering its motivic metamorphoses through the aesthetics of overdriven guitar and delay/effects, Nihil meanders organically through waves of noise and atonality towards a tonal, pictorial narrative of the cyclicality of decay, destruction and rebirth.

  • Metal fans who listen to classical music, and classical fans who listen to metal…

    Jun 24 2009, 20h31 por Conservationist

    I went from being a metalhead who had a couple classical albums to a classical and metal listener. The two musics are really similar: like metal, classical strings together a series of riffs to tell a story.

    My favorite composers are:

    * Franz Schubert
    * Ottorino Respighi
    * Gustav Faure
    * Anton Bruckner
    * Camille Saint-saens
    * Ludwig van Beethoven
    * Robert Schumann

    All of these dudes are extremely "metal": stormy, powerful, dark and lawless music.

    Some of my transition was inspired by the Talk Classical metal forum and "Classical Music for Metal Fans".

    Anyone else listen to classical?

  • ドイツ、オーストリアの大作曲家

    Abr 19 2009, 3h56 por suuzik
