Hello there!! Happy Halloween, then... :)
(And just a little note to anyone reading who happens to live near me and happens to be planning on trick or treating tonight and happens to be wearing one of those scary masks... ;) Please, don't!! Gosh, if I opened the door to someone in one of those masks... Let's NOT think about it, eh... )
I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well. :) It's the last day of October, 2006, and the sun is shining outside...
(That brings to mind the
Bob Marley song!
Sun is shining, la la la... To the rescue... Here I am!! )
What music am I enjoying right now? Well,
a-ha have been dominating the Audioscrobbler recently... :) I recently purchased the a-ha Trilogy - albums "Hunting High And Low" (I love this. I could listen to it over, and over, and over again, until my Audioscrobbler gets fed up, and applies for a transfer... ;) ), "Scoundrel Days", and another title I forget right now (SOME fan I am hmm... Hold on, it is "Stay On These Roads"! Morten would NOT be impressed with such a heinous lapse of memory!! *siiiigh* ;) ). I saw this Trilogy on Amazon.co.uk for a fantastic price - I mean, you ARE getting a masterpiece... ;) I couldn't resist!!). The a-ha albums I'd had before the Trilogy: the Greatest Hits album, and "Minor Earth Major Sky". My favourite song on "Hunting High And Low" (not taking the singles into account right now... ) is possibly
Living a Boy's Adventure Tale. I've played it so much - watch out, next week's charts!! We are talking 'Highest Climber'? ;) (I MISS the way the charts used to be you know... How I'd listen to the Top 40 avidly, look forward to watching "Top Of The Pops"... Again, siiiiiiigh... )
And I see that "Q" magazine (that magnificent magazine, pride of the newsagents, etc... ;) ) gave a-ha an award at their awards ceremony yesterday!! Bravo, standing ovation, etc etc etc!!
(Have Depeche Mode ever won an award? I still think Depeche Mode should get a Brit award... Lifetime Achievement!! How do bands feel about such awards, anyway? Maybe it's a lil' cliché, but the awards that the fans vote for mean the most, mean so much... :) But I can imagine losing out to a band that I would feel was inferior - we lost to
THEM?!!! But they are rubbish!!! Tantrum, throw plates, etc, etc, etc... ;) )
I saw a TV show on MTV on Sunday called "Totally Boyband". This features a band called
Upper Street who are made up of Danny (ex-
New Kids on the Block), Dane Bowers (ex-
Another Level), Bradley (ex-
S Club 7) and Jimmy (ex-
911. Lee (ex-
Steps was involved but he was asked to leave the band by his bandmates I believe... ) The tagline for the show is something like: "They had it... And they
want it back"
Well, I don't know if debuting at number 35 in the UK charts (which for the UK charts is really not great) will be good enough for them... We, the viewers, will see their reactions to the news on the next episode. I read that Lee was treated badly by some of the others (I saw the first episode, and last week's episode, and there were tensions in that first episode... ). We viewers saw Upper Street at the bookies placing bets, and one of them put money on their song going straight in at #1... Oh, dear. I felt quite sorry for them...
It must be hard to be famous and popular and having all that adulation and then for it to end one day like that. Everyone wants to be liked, and it must be such an ego boost... For the fan mail to dry up, for the magazine covers to stop... It can't be that easy. Fame must be quite a drug. And I think that it is sometimes the most vulnerable people who go in for 'fame'. The validation of seeing your face on a magazine cover, to have people who adore you... (Wow. ;) )
And then it ends!! And it's back to whatever!! I don't know... I used to think I would like to be famous when I was growing up (I am a big Drama Queen anyway *blush* ;) ) but now I think I would absolutely hate it. Hate it!! To have that intrusion into my life, to have magazines calling me ugly/fat/whatever... Nope, I would hate hate hate it!!
(What could I do anyway, to BE famous? ;) I don't think any of the reality shows would have me, heh!!)
Where was I... Have I babbled too much? (Hello, stupid question... )
I'm not excusing the Upper Street behaviour if they were unpleasant to Lee but I did feel quite sorry for them. I hope it'll all work out for them all.
(I quite like some S Club 7 songs... And Another Level! And Dane Bowers did that song "Buggin'" which I really like... There was an Another Level video on TV a couple of days ago - it was "Freak Me"! They also had that big soppy "From The Heart" song, I remember... :) I remember commenting to someone at the time that it made Westlife sound like Motorhead!! Or, errm, something like that... ;) ) (My memory will not make me famous, for sure... )
Best wishes to everyone,
Many thanks to anyone who has read all this babble,
Lots of love,
F xxx
