  • My next 2 favourite Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour: BIRDS & MORE BIRDS

    Mai 22 2009, 15h37 por BlackCoffeeDuck

I wrote a journal about Theme Time Radio Hour With Your Host Bob Dylan not that long ago with the themes Coffee and Dogs which both were season one episodes. Coffee episode was one of the first being episode 5 which was first aired on May 31, 2006 and Dogs was episode 16 first aired on August 16, 2006. Season one had 50 episodes but we are up to season 3. With the theme episode Goodbye on April 15, 2009 which was the 100th original episode. It is unknown whether Theme Time Radio Hour will continue into a Season 4 but Dylan himself, during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine implied that his contract had ended. No official announcement about the show's future has been made at this time.

The new Bob Dylan album Together Through Life which is a cool album. I might have to listen a few more times. The bonus disc is the Friends & Neighbors episode but you can hear the Theme Time Radio Hour songs rubbing off on his new songs. I hope they official released all 100 episodes (somewhere or sometime). It's really great listening to Bob talk away about well, whatever the hell he wants too.

I'm going back to season 2 with the episode 71 and 72 Birds and More Birds shows. In the previous journal I wrote "I wish he would do Flying or Birds show" and he has on March 5, 2008 and March 12, 2008. I'm going to link all the songs here on last.fm that Bob plays on these shows.

  • On two years of scrobbling

    Jan 30 2009, 17h01 por Eclectic-G

Break out the bubbly! January 30, 2009 marks the second anniversary of my registration at last.fm. As I did on the 18-month mark on July 30, 2008 and on my first anniversary on January 30, 2008, I have taken a snapshot of my listening during these two scrobblicious years.

    The lists
I have included four lists in this snapshot: two examining the past year (2008) and two examining my entire last.fm "career".

The information in these lists is worth what it is worth. (And that's not much.)

The Top 25 Artists of 2008

    21) Stacey Kent: TocarWhat The World Needs Now Is Love, scrobbled 16 times

It looks like Stacey Kent was the big winner this year; this is proof of the power of last.fm, I was not really aware of Ms. Kent before last.fm.

Note also that this list includes two renditions of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's classic "What the World Needs Now Is Love": the definitive Jackie DeShannon version and a cover version by the aforementioned Stacey Kent. As a result, "What the World Needs Now Is Love" is actually the top song, with 33 plays.

  • On eighteen months of scrobbling

    Jul 31 2008, 13h58 por Eclectic-G

July 30, 2008 marked a year and a half since my registration with last.fm. As I did at my first anniversary on January 30, I have taken a snapshot of my listening during these 18 months.

The snapshot is composed of two lists: a list of my 25 top "artists" up to now, and a list of my 10 top tracks played.

The information in these lists is worth what it is worth. (And that's not much.)

    Twenty-five Top "Artists"
Here are the "artists" that I apparently have listened to most often in the last year.

The list shows the current ranking, followed by the ranking on January 30. 2008. The number of scrobbles is listed, followed by a summary of the artist's "chart movement".

    1) (2) James Taylor, scrobbled 917 times. Up 1 position; 413 additional scrobbles.

  • First song

    Jun 30 2008, 14h28 por Amelia716

Out of boredom I decided to post an entry with some of the first songs I ever heard from the artists in my top 10 (and some others)

    1. Placebo - Though I don't listen to them that much anymore, they still are one of the best for me. And though I've watched a couple videos on MTV years ago, I consider TocarCentrefolds my first Placebo song. Simply, that was the song that drew me to their music and persuaded me to download their albums.

    2. Regina Spektor - TocarFidelity was the first song I heard from her. Then I downloaded all her albums and went nutso. Without Regina I wouldn't be what I am now. And this is not exaggerating! It was her song TocarLady (a tribute to Billie Holiday) that got me started on the whole jazz thing. Love that creative, quirky, sweet Regina.

    3. Amy Winehouse - Funky music junkie. But I don't really care about her personal life. She does some good music and that's it. First song ever was Rehab, which I didn't like at first. Shortly after that I got addicted to her. Nowdays I hardly ever play a few of her songs.

    4. Billie Holiday - She should be number one on my list (and soon will be). True tallent. I've no words to express how in awe I am with this lady. It was TocarThem There Eyes. Can't say I was stunned or anything. But then... TocarStrange Fruit. 'Nuff said!

    5. Остава - A bulgarian group. In love with their old stuff and really disappointed by their new album. First song - (oh what a surprise!) TocarШоколад. Far not one of their best.

    6. Babyshambles - Yet another craze that passed by. First time I ever check out a band just because of the front man (shame, shame, shame!) First song was TocarDelivery ... I guess.

    7. Kanye West - The man. And also the third artis on my top so far, that I don't listen to so much anymore. Whatever. It was Good Morning that caught me and then TocarStronger that completely blew my mind.

    8. Frank Sinatra - Ol' blue eyes. You've no choice but love him. As one of the characters in *Interstate 60* said "Sometimes all you need is Sinatra". Couldn't agree more. There's just something about his music that makes you feel nice. First song was (probably) Somethin' Stupid.

    9. Garbage - The good old days. There's so much energy in their music. Song was Tocar#1 Crush. A haunting love song that makes me think of murder. Dunno why. Just feels like Shirley will kill him if he doesn't feel the same. Go girl, do your thang! (;

    10. Nat King Cole - Cole as ice, but makes you feel warm and nice. I feel for him what I feel for Sinatra. Nat is a terrific musician. No words can express the kick I get out of his music. I think my very first song was TocarUnforgettable, the duet version with his daughter Natalie (which is a nice singer too)

*some other random, but great artists*

    11. Anita O'Day - Really nice singer. First song was TocarIf The Moon Turns Green. Still a personal fav.

    12. Miles Davis - TocarSo What recently got me started. Pure genius, that mr. Davis.

    13. Pink Martini - What do you get when you mix jazz with latin? Magic! (also known as bossa nova). I think first song I heard was La Soledad. Instantly fell in love and now I'm a proud owner of all their albums.

    14. Julie London - Hm... I'm just getting into her music, but that smokey, sensual voice got me from the first time I heard her Sway. Such a great and moving performance. The Pussycat Dolls... please, focus on the dancing and sway away from the mic.

    15. Alice Russell - What a voice! What a voice indeed. Soulful, powerful, full of energy. It was her colaboration with Nostalgia 77 that introduced me to her. Song is TocarSeven Nation Army (I prefer this version to the original)

    16. Athlete - TocarTokyo. Left me breathless.

    17. Earth, Wind & Fire - It was their TocarSeptember that reminded me of good old funk.

    18. Ray Charles - Genius. I'll break the nose of anyone who disagrees! It was so long ago when I first heard TocarHit The Road Jack. Seems like ages, but this song can still any pop song's ass.

    19. Morphine - Just like their name, they are completely addictive and intoxicating. *Someday there'll be a cure for pain, that's the day I throw my drugs away* Hell no! Won't throw them away even if they find a cure for stupidity. And it's their TocarCandy that makes me go in outer space.

    20. Nick Drake - His music is so beautiful and gentle. Like a brook in the spring, like autumn leaves, like snowflakes. He didn't live up to face his success. He died alone, but most of all - lonely. Sadly, his talent was his sorrow. And he couldn't take it. Time Has Told Me.
