wbli winter jam 2001
nassau coliseum
LFO (the boy band),
Willa Ford,
Aaron Carter,
Dream Street,
Blu Cantrell,
Mandy Moore,
Jessica Simpson,
City High
this was interesting. i went to see LFO and almost got kicked out for booing willa ford. everyone else was absolutely awful and jessica simpson lipsyncs her fast songs (this is not surprising). i also got to see mandy moore and jessica simpson in the same night which was weird. also, i was in the very last row.
5/something/02
pop disaster tour
tommy hilfiger at jones beach theater
wantagh, ny
i think
Saves the Day opened up for
Green Day and
blink-182. i wanted to see jimmy eat world but they didn't play at my show. blink was good, green day was better. i actually went to see blink 182. it was a fun show.
12/2/02
wbli winter jam 2002
nassau coliseum
Nick Carter,
Aaron Carter,
Justin Guarini,
Angie Martinez,
Daniel Bedingfield,
Mario, three of the stupid fucks from
Dream Street singing together,
Greg Raposo trying not to associate himself with dreamstreet,

LMNT, who are these people oh my god??,
No Secrets, and - WTF -
Back II Back (LOLOL I KNOW RIGHT)
okay so i went to this for nick carter and wanted to die for the rest of the show. it was that bad. oh, daniel bedingfield was okay. but justin guarini? lolol. i don't even remember most of these people and i had to look this up on the internet.

nick carter - now or never tour
the vanderbilt
plainview, ny
i don't remember much about this. i'm pretty sure
3LW was supposed to open up for him. there was some boyband with three guys, and another band that didn't go very far but covered that "jenny (867-5309)" song.
Nick Carter was pretty sweet, he works a lot harder than most people realize. he covered "just what i needed" by the cars, too, and this made me really happy because i've always liked that song.

matchbox twenty - more than you think you are tour
continental airlines arena
east rutherford, nj
okay, so i was supposed to see
Maroon 5 open, but we got hopelessly lost and my mom was hungry so she's like "well, you've never heard of maroon 5 and they probably suck, so let's just eat, okay?" and i was all reluctantly, "fiiiiiiiiiiine." of course, like three months later i'd become massively obsessed with them. i never did see them live and now they're too big and too expensive. oh well.
we walked in during
Sugar Ray's set, having missed maroon 5 completely. sugar ray wasn't so bad considering they're generally a giant pool of suck.
Matchbox Twenty was really awesome and i wish that fucker rob thomas would go back where he belongs.
7/23/03
OH MY GOD weird al yankovic - poodle hat tour
westbury music fair
westbury, ny
okay this place has a rotating stage!! i don't remember the name of the comedian who opened up for
"Weird Al" Yankovic but he was kind of funny. and WEIRD AL IS SO GREAT. i've been a weird al fan for years and it was soooo weird to see him...in the same building as me...and holy shit he's HUMAN! it was pretty crazy. fantastic show. i almost missed it too but my mom's friend paid her like $100 that she owed her that day and she called us from work and was like "hey do you still want to see weird al?" and my sister and i were like YESSSSSSSSSS.
3/25/05
backstreet boys - up close and personal tour
scranton cultural center
scranton, pa
so i tried to buy tickets to see them in philadelphia the night before (i go to school in delaware, hence the sudden change in location), but my mom (who was paying up front, i didn't have sufficient money in my account that weekend) sent me her credit card number but not the three digits on the back and ugh, i had to call her back and by the time i got them they didn't have any tickets left. this was over the span of five minutes. so we decided i'd take a little trip up to scranton on my way home for spring break.
i was skeptical. i didn't think they'd be too good. could they do it? ohhh they could. holy shit. and i was way close to them (well, in the middle of the crowd, but way closer than i ever was when i saw them in seated venues) and i got to shake brian's hand at the end of the night. i think i died! just a little! they also had no opening act.
7/30/05
backstreet boys - never gone tour
jones beach
so yeah, we had a bunch of openers. some hansonesque brothers that i'd never heard of and can't remember, and
Kaci Brown (who was TERRIBLE) and
The Click Five, who were also really really bad, kind of like nsync in interpol's clothing. the backstreet boys did not fail to amaze.
this was...weird, cuz i had spent the previous evening in the city at
Franz Ferdinand's "do you want to" video shoot, which was a story in itself i should tell one day. so i kind of wasn't in a bsb mood that day but when they came on stage i was pretty excited. i didn't think i was going to see this show at all but i'm glad i did. i came home that morning, sat on the internet for a little bit, and went to see the backstreet boys. it was CELEB MANIA that weekend.
8/26/05
of montreal
first unitarian church
phildelphia, pa
so
MGMT opened up for them and i was bored. but when they were done
of Montreal came out to set up and i was riiiight against the stage so i got to chat with kevin barnes and the late bp helium. it was so cool, and they were so nice to me! you could see kevin's underwear through his pants and i knew they said something but i wasn't sure what, so i asked and he told me that his underwear said BRAZIL that day. ahaha.
anyway the show was great, i almost got hit in the face with kevin's guitar and i danced a lot lot lot. i'm seeing them again NEXT WEEK! i am so excited. NEXT WEEK! NEXTTTTT WEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/14/05
franz ferdinand
tower theater
philadelphia/upper darby, pa
man upper darby is gross. the girl i saw this show with bought the seats and we were first row balcony, dead center, so we had no one in front of us and the angle was very nice...except for the fact that, uh, we were way far away and my friends were down in the pit. they put on a good performance but aren't especially great at engaging the attention of people in the back. i feel like i could have just watched a bootleg video of them on my computer and gotten the same experience. i also couldn't meet the band (again) because upper darby police thought i was underage and threatened to arrest me if i stayed outside at that hour any longer. and we got in a minor accident too. it was pretty much a bad night.
oh, and
Cut Copy was okay and got off the stage quickly.
Sons and Daughters were...loud. really loud. i think they're good but i can't get into them. and i counted 10 songs. that's a little long for an opener. aaaagh. i was getting pretty impatient by the end of the night.
so yeah. next week is of montreal again, then just days later i get to see
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. at the end of march i'm seeing
Arctic Monkeys in new york, and a few weeks after that i'm seeing
Art Brut at the first unitarian church (yesssssss that will be so sweet). so yeah life is kind of good lately.
this turned into a long bunch of stories instead of just a list.
