I love this! The tales of those poor souls caught up in battle on the Western Front in World War 1 Who one night before Christmas ... both sung Carols to each other. For one night peace ruled! Ihave celebrated Christmas night in the Church where this hymn/ Carol was first performed... What an experience! Sung in German... I felt so humble. This is my favourite carol. In any language! ... and I have no religion in me , what so ever!
