Stolen from
Stejdi, who originally stole it from
os_teriyaki. Thanks guys!
1. What are you listening to right now?
Some stuff by by
Phoenix, some by
The Rapture, and some by
Jazzin' park. All random iTunes/ Youtube recommendations I decided to check out.
2. What song makes you sad?
Truly sad? There are a few... "
A Dustland Fairytale" and "
Jingle Jangle" come to mind. Listen to the lyrics.
A lot of
Max Richter's stuff does that for me too... like "
Flowers for Yulia" and "
I Was Just Thinking."
Michael Jackson's "
Smile" just kills me, though.
3. What is the most annoying song in the world?
For me, that would be most of the "popular" rap/pop songs on the radio nowadays, from what I've heard. It just gets to me; there's not much creativity in a good deal of it at all, and the lyrics are awful.
4. Your all time favorite band?
Todd Rundgren is always my #1 (followed closely by
Frost*). The man is one of my biggest inspirations; I've loved his music since I was a tiny kid.
5. Your newly discovered band is?
Besides the three in question 1? That would be
Ed Harcourt, and he's fantastic. Once again, I have to give my one friend all the credit-- I've found countless amazing bands through her interests.
6. Best female voice?
I'm typically not a fan of female voices (besides
Imogen Heap), but I am quite a fan of Japanese voices.
Rica Matsumoto,
Mai Yamane,
Ilaria Graziano,
Maaya Sakamoto,
Makino Yui,
Nakajima Megumi,
Tomiko Van, and
Nana Mizuki are my faves.
7. Best male voice?
Geez, don't make me pick! There's Liam McKahey, Jem Godfrey, Todd Rundgren (of course), hyde (from
L'Arc~en~Ciel), Brandon Flowers, Richard Archer, Ben Kowalewicz, Alex Ebert, Matthew Bellamy, Jason Pebworth, Takashi Hatakeyama, Tom Chaplin, Tony Bennett, David Bowie, Donald Fagen... so many of them have great voices, seriously. I also quite like odd/unique voices so if you know any, throw their band names at me and I'll get listening.
8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?
Apparently!
9. What do you listen to hype you up?
In the 'happy' sense: "
The Whole New World," "
Mister Blue Sky," "
Sonic Drive," "
Racing Green," "
Walking On A Dream (Danger Racing Remix)," or "
Pokemon world." Yes, that song still cheers me up.
In the 'manic' sense: "
12=3" is the only one I can think of right now, but it does just that.
10. What do you listen to when you want to calm down?
Man, I have an entire playlist on my iTunes for whenever I'm depressed, introspective, calm, or up at 4AM. Most of the music on it is by
The songs that always relax me are "
Oracion" (the movie didn't lie!), "
No Jokes - Fact," "
Echoes," "
Smile ~Piano Instrumental VER.~," "
Metaphorically Yours," "
Fragment," "
My People Feel That Way in the Morning," "
arne," "
Pavane," "Hit The Road (from freeplaymusic.com)," and "
Who's Theme" stand out.
"
Late Night Partner" never, ever fails, though.
11. Last gig/concert you went to?
I think it was
Steely Dan, but that was a few years ago now... but in two weeks, I'm going to see
Todd Rundgren! I am so happy it's actually comical.
12. Band you find yourself listening to the most right now?
Ed Harcourt, because his music is very calming to me.
My listening count for
The Rapture is going to spike soon, though, because "
Don Gon Do It" is just
too good.
13. Most hated band?
Couldn't say; if I don't like the music, I don't listen to the band.
14. Song that makes you think?
In a serious way? That award goes to "
Milliontown" by
Frost* and "
Ink" by
Cubbiebear.
If you mean 'thinking music,' they're also my calming music picks.
15. Band that you think the world should love as much as you do?
Frost* and
J-MACHine.
16. Coolest music video?
I haven't seen many music videos to speak of, but
U2's "
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" was incredible. David OReilly, man!
17. What do you play/would you play in the bedroom to spice things up?
Skipping this question, thank you very much.
18. What song makes you yearning/longing/something of that sort?
Right now...?
Jojoushi (
L'Arc~en~Ciel), "
Voyage" (
ayumi hamasaki), "
The King" (
Hard-Fi) and "
Late Night Partner" (
Ed Harcourt), all for various personal reasons.
There are always many, many more of these.
19. Ever been in a mosh pit?
No, thank goodness.
20. Are you in a band?
No, but I'm
a solo artist! I'd love to be in a band as a pianist or vocalist if I got my depression under control, though.
21. Ever dated a musician?
I don't date, but I am extremely close friends with a few musicians, yes-- notably
J-MACHine, who you should seriously check out.
22. Do you wish yourself that you were a musician?
A professional, you mean? Yes, I'd very much like to be.
23. Best chick band you know of?
Don't know of any offhand.
24. Last song that you heard on the radio/cd...etc...?
I was listening to "
Visit From The Dead Dog" on CD in the car earlier today, so I suppose that counts.
25. What do you think of classical music?
Love it to pieces, both the old stuff and new stuff. It's beautiful and it's a genre entirely of it's own.
26. What do you think of country music?
I don't like the sound, but I like some of the songs with 'story' lyrics. However, I'm not sure what counts as 'country' anymore, so I can't really judge.
27. What do you think of Death metal?
I can listen to some of it, like
Sonic Syndicate-- and I probably listen to some other stuff that fits a similar genre (
Angelspit,
In Flames)-- but it's not my favorite genre. It can be too harsh for me at times. Plus, if it's not audibly 'musical' in some way, I'm not interested.
28. Last BIG band that you saw live?
Well, besides
Steely Dan, I've seen
Cher,
David Bowie, and
Earth, Wind & Fire. I would think they all count!
29. Are you a groupie?
Not sure what that means, so I guess I'm not.
30. Do you listen to music in foreign languages?
Oh yes. Japanese is tops, but I've been known to listen to Korean, French, Russian, Italian and German music as well. I'll probably find some more foreign artists in time.
31. What famous musician would you invite to dinner?
Aha, unfortunately I have a social disorder, so I wouldn't be inviting anyone to dinner out of paranoia alone. Sorry.
32. Worst concert moment?
My brother got very sick at Bowie's concert. I felt terribly guilty going back to the music after that, as I knew he wasn't feeling well.
33. Funny concert moment?
Probably during Cher's Farewell Tour, when a very drunk woman started singing along and then kept having conversations with my mother for the duration of the concert. It was pretty amusing.
34. Sad concert moment?
Can't think of any, really.
35. Best local act you can think of?
Oh geez... my brother's guitar instructor is well known, but I can't think of his name right now. I'll fix this up tomorrow with it.
Besides him, though, we also have the
Three Imaginary Boys! Brilliant kids, I swear.
36. If you were a musical instrument what would you be?
I'm actually not sure. Maybe just a classic grand piano... but I don't think I'm the best person to answer this question.
37. Do you listen to the radio?
Only my favorite local college channel, because they have introduced me to
Hard-Fi,
The Drowners,
Hot Hot Heat,
The Aquabats,
Alien Ant Farm, and many more great artists. Heck, they get eternal loyalty from me for introducing me to
Big Julie.
38. Do you watch music TV?
No, not a TV person. Used to watch MTV videos in the morning once in a while, but I no longer get that channel so I'm stuck anyway.
39. Do you follow the music charts, like the top 40?
Nope, never did.
40. Have you met any famous musicians?
Not personally, but I'd love to.
41. Are any of your friends/family/etc. musicians?
None of us are professional, but my three brothers are musically talented, and my mother has a general knowledge of piano. My old best friend is pretty talented at writing lyrics, too! (And I mentioned Jim twice earlier, of course.)
I did know
one kid in a local music camp when I was about 12, though... I swear, that girl had the voice of an angel. I hope to God she hasn't given up on her music, because I am dying to hear her again.
42. Song that best describes your feelings right now?
"
Good Friends Are Hard To Find" and "
32 Via San Nicolo"... painfully nostalgic, unrequited love sort of thing. Also being up at 3:30 AM and feeling too much to be able to sleep.
43. Song that describes your life?
No idea yet... I keep thinking it's "
Big Julie" by
Jarvis Cocker, though. The more I hear it the more it means to me.
44. Do you know the names of all the band members that you listen to?
Not really, I only know a few names here and there. I really don't put top priority on that; I suppose I should care more, though.
45. Does a musician’s physical attractiveness play a role in the music?
Heck no. That's a rather immature thought, actually.
46. What famous musician do you want to marry?
Celibate here; I'm not marrying anyone!
47. Favourite movie soundtrack?
Can't say I have one. I'd have to think about that for a while.
48. What do your parents listen to?
I don't know the full extent of their likes (a great deal of my mom's music makes me nervous so I won't listen to it), but here are some--
Mom:
Earth, Wind & Fire,
Chicago,
America,
Michael Jackson,
Kenny G.,
Basia,
Gloria,
Marion Meadows,
Cher
Dad:
Todd Rundgren,
Jeff Beck,
The Tubes,
INXS,
Queen,
Steely Dan,
Santana,
Joe Satriani
I don't know who I got
Electric Light Orchestra from-- both of them?
49. What are you listening to right NOW?
"
Empty Streets" by
Starsailor. Really a beautiful track.
50. Do you wear band etc T-shirts?
No, but my brother does. I'd like to get a few, though.
51. What do you think of people who do?
I don't mind it one bit. Support those musicians!
And that's it for tonight, so I'm off.
