Firstly, I am glad that my expectation of a truly waterlogged weekend turned out to be false as Typhoon "Pepeng" (aka Parma) veered away from its planned course, choosing to vent its pluvial wrath onto Taiwan (where John Cusack along with director Roland Emmerich did a promotional pit-stop for the new disaster flick 2012)

Next, I could be relieved that Katy Perry made use of the downtime from her (postponed) Manila tour stop to go vay-kaying with her (rumoured) UK comic beau Russell Brand in good ol' Thailand.

Now, I dread of - not one, but two - scheduled concerts by Air Supply but also of Dionne Warwick onto our shores. Certainly there has to be something puzzling about why Filipinos would like to see artists play the same damn stuff all over again...it's that oppressive, close-minded nostalgia which keeps the likes of Ramon Jacinto very much in business. Don't get me wrong, I love a good lot of old songs, but that doesn't mean that I shut my ears out to the new. It's admirable that a lot of contemporary artists use influences from earlier generations to fashion truly modern music. I definitely would look forward to copping the new Muse and Jay-ZCDs, though, when they come out locally - yes, I still do like getting my hands on original CDs even if it's sooo easy to go download.

...хелльзегер просто обожает качественную китайскую попсу. Практически всю, всех этих кэюлуней, хуанчжэнов, визжащих ациней (...только послушайте его альбом «левоеуховангога»...) и прочих. Но эталоном всегда были и остаются Air Supply, а конкретно – их изумительной огранки пластинка «The Vanishing Race» девяносто третьего... одну секундочку, мне, похоже, кто-то звонит... *достаёт из кармана Sony Ericsson p1, в котором, вместо положенного рингтона, играет Air Supply – «Goodbye». Долго слушает, с каждой секундой всё больше и больше мрачнея* ...как!? Эйр Супплай не качественная китайская попса, а качественный австралийский софт-рок?! Не может быть!.. *кладёт трубку обратно в карман* ...вот это удар, правда?.. утопиться теперь что ли? Или лучше обозреть какой-нибудь новый альбом Деф Леппард? Пожалуй – последнее. Являясь первым полноценным студийным релизом команды со времен выхода «Х» в 2002-ом, «Songs From The Sparkle Lounge» 2008-го полон флешбэков, и представляется скорее этаким путешествием назад во времени по извилистой спирали дискографии группы. Но злоупотреблять отсылками к предыдущим работам команды совсем не требуется – знающие отыщут и так, а остальным оно ни к чему, пластинка довольно приятна сама по себе. А теперь по порядку предоставления:

1. ...прелестное урбанистическое звучание «Go» с почтисонатной структурой аранжировок овеяно воспоминаниями о блаженных инъекциях «Hysteria» и даже «Pyromania»...

2. ...рваный, но достаточно мягкий кантри-ритм «Nine Lives» омрачён лишь явлением богомерзкого Тима Макгро...

3. ...линия ударных «C'mon C'mon» заставляет двигаться вместе с собой в едином порыве, невзирая на Ваше желание... именно это англоязычные называют простым, ёмким словом «beat»... но здесь его не нужно ловить, всё получится само собой...

4. ...грусть «Love» на второй минуте сознательно переходит из меланхолично-торжественной опустошенности в, самую малость неуместное, трагически-надрывное гитарное соло...

5. ...стадионные интро-риффы «Tomorrow» (почти как у ю-ту, в самом положительном смысле) несколько диссонируют с нетерпеливым и бескомпромиссным студенческим роком основной линии композиции...

6. ...предельно густое звучание «Cruise Control» не даёт слушателю решительно никакой возможности понять, что, собственно, там, за пёстрыми ширмами полиритмов, на самом деле происходит...

7. ...галлюцинации «Hallucinate» галлюцинируют в галлюциногенном... тьфу, заклинило... отрицательно... гладко отполировано, но отрицательно... слишком ровно...

8. ...жизнерадостная, со звонким, приторно-молодёжным вокалом «Only The Good Die Young» и очень милыми такими лид-гитарными завитушками с обеих сторон, усиленно провоцирует появление глупых ухмылок на протяжении трёх с половиной минут эфирного времени...

9. ...довольно жёстко звучащей песне о плохом танцоре – «Bad Actress», согласно неумолимым постулатам физиологической логики, мешать абсолютно нечему, но, тем не менее... самые слабые, по моему личному, 3:03 на пластинке...

10. ...незавершенка «Come Undone» ощутимо отдаёт ЛедЗеповскими грязными риффами, но так, как если бы их озвучили Аэросмиты или... или... Деф Леппард?)...

11. ...всплески ритм-гитары «Gotta Let It Go» сладким резонансом проходят по всей длине композиции, а вокал вещи воздушен, вкрадчив, стремителен и безжалостен (...я всё понимаю, боно сексуален, но не до такой же, бл@ть, степени!..)... только ради того, чтобы почувствовать всё это ещё раз, можно прослушать пластинку целиком... ещё один раз...

1. ...после второго прослушивания «Go» становится понятно, почему так... *во время произнесения последней фразы незаметно уходит, занавес опускается, и где-то там за сценой голос хелльзегера продолжает раскрывать скрытые достоинства и выявлять явные недостатки так до конца и не прослушанного никем альбома*...
