• False Charts

    Jul 5 2007, 14h31 por indigo_jones

My charts this week -- and future weeks if I can't get some program to work -- are not going to really reflect my listening habits. I use my iPods a lot, but I've been having trouble with the Yamipod program more and more over the recent weeks, and for the past few days, I've had almost no luck with the program at all. My nano hasn't worked at all with it for a month or more, and now I can't get the program to work with my video iPod. I try to force Yamipod to send the tracks, but I can't even get that screen to show up; the program stops responding. In the past, if I shut it down and then tried a bit later, the tracks would send on their own when I started Yamipod up again, but that's no longer working either.

I tried to install iScrobbler once, but I didn't understand what I had to do to get it to work. I was also a bit confused about which program could or could not be running at the time.

Recently, I saw with the recent Last.fm upgrade that there was supposed to be a way to scrobble your Pod through Last.fm, but so far, I haven't had any luck there, either. I'm particularly thrown by the syncing, since how am I supposed to sync my 2GB nano? I'm not thrilled about syncing my 30GB pod, either, since I have stuff on my computer that I don't necessarily want on my iPod.

Anyone have any suggestions or step by step help for getting something -- anything! -- to work? I'm using a Windows PC, not a Mac.

Meanwhile, I've been listening to Age Pryor, Beirut, Brazilian Girls, David Garza, Fly My Pretties, and Ola Podrida (among others) on my Pod, but they haven't been scrobbled.
  • Odd Time Signatures

    Abr 6 2007, 8h28 por indigo_jones

I love songs with odd time signatures. There's just something about them that appeals to me. Genesis' Apocalypse in 9/8 is a fantastic example, but I was also just listening to Age Pryor's The Condition, which also has an odd time signature, which I just realized. Explains why I like the song so much. There are so many great song examples; those are just two. What are your favorite examples of odd time signatures?
  • The Jazz Firefly

    Fev 16 2007, 5h10 por indigo_jones

I was watching the Fat Freddy's Drop DVD tonight for the first time since I'd heard Age Pryor playing with the Octopus and the Jazz Firefly and realized that the fantastic guitarist guesting with them in Germany was none other than the Jazz Firefly himself, Justin Clarke!

I was blown away listening to Justin's guitar work when he played with Age Pryor on Radio NZ and I've become a fan of his work as a result. So far, I'm limited to the four songs he has on his MySpaz (TM e!!en) profile, but I love what I've heard and his playing with Fat Freddy's Drop was just as incredible. Definitely someone I'll be listening to more of in the future.

  • 5000 Songs

    Ago 25 2006, 13h29 por indigo_jones

Fate ... or something like it.

Actually, it's hardly fate that an Age Pryor song was my 5,000th song listened to here, when you consider how often I do listen to him. I hadn't listened to him as much in the past few weeks, but I started again yesterday. Perfect timing, without realizing it! My 5,000th track was [track]Eyes Rarely Meet[/track], which goes well with the Nick Drake I've been listening to in the past few days.
  • Mainstream Percentage

    Jul 29 2006, 19h25 por indigo_jones

Go through your top 10 artists and add up the total number of listeners. Then compute the average and divide the average by the number of Radiohead fans (Radiohead is the artist with the most listeners). That is your "mainstream percentage".

My mainstream ranking is 3%, which isn't surprising, since half my top ten doesn't even have triple digits when it comes to listeners, and one only has three listeners. That said, they're all freakin' brilliant and deserve to be mainstream!

    Flight of the Conchords 1484
    Age Pryor 66
    Fly My Pretties 245
    Tess & Adrian 3
    The Phoenix Foundation 594
    The Video Kid 54
    Flash Harry 71
    The Black Seeds 574
    Module* 71
    Tom Waits 84,982

    Total: 88,144
    Average: 8,814
    Radiohead listeners: 316,082
    Percentage: .027886 (3%)

*Module is actually listed as having 155 listeners, but that's for two different Modules. One is Russian, I think. My Module is from NZ. So I gave him 71, to tie with Flash Harry, and roughly half of what was listed for both Modules. It's not like those extra 70+ listeners is going to skew the results much higher. heh.

    1. What are you listening to right now?

Most rap these days? That atrocious My Humps song?

    4. Your all time favorite band?

    6. Best female voice?
    I'm particularly fond of Poe.

    7. Best male voice?
Morten Harkett, from a-ha, has a truly beautiful voice.

    8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?
Too impossible to narrow down. I go by mood.

Leave It All Behind - Age Pryor

    15. Band that you think the world should love as much as you do?
All those Welly bands/musos I listen to all the time. If everyone else liked them, maybe I'd get to see them perform more often and not have to wait weeks for CDs to arrive from NZ.

    16. Coolest music video?
I don't watch anymore (are they even on anymore), but I love Jovanotti's video for L'ombelico del Mondo, since it's filmed in the Palazzo Te'.

    33. Funny concert moment?
The guy in front of us at the Bob Dylan show I went to in High School. We had nosebleed seats, so the guy in front of us who was rocking out in his seat was easier to see.

    34. Sad concert moment?
    Can't think of any.

    35. Best local act you can think of?
Not up on the local scene anymore. But back in the day, Geezer Lake was pretty damn good.

    No.

    39. Do you follow the music charts, like the top 40?
    Pshhh. No.

    40. Have you met any famous musicians?
Gregg Allman is a family friend. When I was in college, I met a couple of guys from Living Color, and the singer for Ned's Atomic Dustbin. I've met Chick Corea, and I've met the guys in The Phoenix Foundation.

Woot! I've moved to the top of the list of top Age Pryor fans! Not that it's been hard. I can't resist listening to City Chorus at least a few times a day. Imagine if they tracked the Tess and Adrian stuff, as well as the Fly My Pretties songs as Age listings.
