Here in SF, the XX chromosome singer-songwriter trend was a pretty big deal. A big local radio station, KFOG, playlisted many of these artists, and a whole new station, Alice (KLLC) was almost specifically formatted to cater to the demographic.
Now, as 2010 zooms by, a female singer-songwriter who wants to get noticed as an albums artist almost has to go straight indie to get noticed, while impotent "Scooch On Over Closer" male songwriters with quasi-Jamaican accents get signed by the dozen. What happened? Dave Matthews? Jewel? Limp Bizkit? Britney Spears? Oversaturation? Did female singer-songwriters stop writing good songs?
