    http://live-love-laugh-enjoy.blogspot.com/2009/05/costume-steampunk-12.html

    10. Hot Hot Heat.
    8. Diorama.
    7. Debout Sur Le Zinc.
    6. Calla. No comments.
    5. Diary of Dreams.
    4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
    3. Abney Park.
    2. My Chemical Romance. Только The Black Parade.
    1. The Music.

  • And one meme...

    Mai 31 2009, 17h52 por Laryskun

    1. What's your favorite song by #15 (François Pérusse)?
Though it's not technically a song - the one with the parody of a Barry White song.

    Celebrated Poetry in Music

I’ve compiled a list of songs and albums by musicians who have taken poetry from established and renowned writers (whether only in their respective countries or in a worldly sense) and put them to music. The list didn’t turn out to be as long as I had initially hoped, but for anyone who is big into poetry – this should keep you busy for a little while. Feedback is definitely welcome (especially if someone locates me some songs using Robert Browning, Walt Whitman, or Emily Dickinson which I’m really surprised I couldn’t find).

    Fev 21 2009, 22h19 por oceanshore

I never post these things, so today I thought, what the hell. I'll do it and post it.

    1. How did you get into 29?
I honestly can't remember what hooked me onto Panic! At the Disco. I think it had something to do with Fall Out Boy, though.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Sun Kil Moon — TocarDuk Koo Kim. I discovered it on someone's Muxtape before they went under as streaming mixtape service.

    3. What's your favorite lyric by 33?
I actually like ALL of the lyrics to The Avett Brothers' The Ballad Of Love And Hate.

    4. How did you get into 49?
the_mouse got me into The Academy Is... after I had heard the album Almost Here in her car a few times.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
I have both albums put out by The Snake The Cross The Crown. I have a physical copy of Cotton Teeth on CD and Mander Salis digitally.

    6. What is your favorite song by 50?
You, Me, and Everyone We Know — Do it Again! It's catchy. I like it.

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad?
Nope. I've never had Tool make me sad yet.

    8. What is your favorite song by 15?
Can I just say that I literally love every bit of Agalloch? They're a literal work of art to me and are one of the only bands I would shell out some serious money to go see live. When I sit down to listen to them, I can't just NOT listen to one song, I have to listen to the entire album all the way through.

    9. What is your favorite song by 5?
Hard to say because I have always liked their works. But from Thrice's newest stuff, I'm really taken with TocarDigital Sea and TocarCome All You Weary.

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
    Patrick Wolf — TocarGet Lost

    11. What is the worst song by 40?
Honestly, I don't know and I haven't found one yet. Maybe I'm just easy to please, or maybe I just think Abney Park is just that good.

    12. What is your favorite song by 10?
Fall Out Boy — TocarHomesick at Space Camp

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
That I found Death Cab for Cutie through The Postal Service.

    14. What is your favorite song by 38?
    Ghost Buffalo — Tocarhell here

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
    Madeline — TocarDumpster Dive Mother

    16. Is there a song by 25 that makes you sad?
Nope, Alesana doesn't make me sad either. We're probing in the wrong genre for songs that provoke emotion for me, haha.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
    Marissa Nadler — TocarDiamond Heart

    18. What's your favorite lyric by 11?
I have several, but lately it's been from Modest Mouse's TocarFly Trapped in a Jar — "One wing isn't even enough to leave."

    19. Who is a favorite member of 1?
ALL OF THEM. They are ten kinds of awesome and nice folks. I would like very much to share a drink or two with them in the future if I can.

    20. Is there a song by 14 that makes you happy?
    The Decemberists — TocarSummersong

    21. What is a good memory involving 27?
In 2000, I went to Florida for a week. I took one CD with me, and that CD was Beastie Boys' Hello Nasty. Nearly eleven years later, it still remains one of my favourite albums to listen to. I've worn out my physical copy from use.

    22. What is your favorite song by 16?
O'Death — O Lee O always manages to distract me so I can sing along with certain parts. Or wail along. I'm actually not sure which I do more with that track...

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47?
    BT — TocarDark Heart Dawning

    24. What is your favorite album by 18?
    Neko Case — Blacklisted

    25. What is your favorite song by 21?
Horse Feathers — TocarCurs in the Weeds, Working Poor, TocarFalling Through the Roof... the list could go on. I recently discovered Horse Feathers on Last.fm and I've played the hell out of both of their albums the moment I got my hands on them. They're lovely.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
Explosions In the Sky — TocarFirst Breath After Coma

    27. What is your favorite album by 3?
Shit, I can't pick. Both of The Dear Hunter's albums go together hand in hand. :|

    28. What is you favorite song by 2?
I'm not so sure, but if I honestly had to pick from both of The Receiving End of Sirens' albums, I'd probably say Tocar...Then I Defy You, Stars. There really are only a few songs that I don't like on their albums, heh.

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32?
Fern Knight — TocarSong For Ireland

    30. What is your favorite song by 8?
    Bon Iver — re:Stacks & Skinny Love.

    31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
I have never seen Deer Tick live and it makes me sad. One day I will correct this problem.

    32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
    Ex Reverie — TocarSecond Son.

    33. How did you get into 12?
I can't remember this either. I remember hearing Bayside somewhere (probably some internet radio thing through Winamp back about three or four years ago) and one day, I saw their self-titled album at Walmart and I bought it. And here we are.

    34. What is the worst song by 45?
I used to be, but now I'm not so fond of the albums prior to Midtown's Forget What You Know. I think their last album was their best all the way around, even right down to the production quality.

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34?
Queens of the Stone Age — TocarNo One Knows

    36. What is the first song you ever heard by 48?
Incubus — TocarDrive. I recall listening to this song on one of the Now! CDs or whatever on a three hour bus ride to some war memorial. I borrowed that CD for the entire trip and listened to that one song on repeat the whole time, haha.

    37. How many times have you seen 42 live?
Never seen Red Hot Chili Peppers before.

    38. What is you favorite song by 36?
William Elliott Whitmore — Sometimes Our Dreams Float Like Anchors

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
Holler, Wild Rose! — TocarSun Vines. That track made me run out and buy the album.

    40. What is you favorite album by 7?
Brand New — The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. It took me a long time to warm up to this album and now it's my favourite.

    41. Is there a song by 31 that makes you happy?
    Espers — TocarRiding

    42. What is your favorite album by 41?
Scary Kids Scaring Kids — Scary Kids Scaring Kids

    43. What is your favorite song by 24?
Apollo 13 — So Far So Near, Come To B., Lusitania

    44. What is a good memory you have involving 46?
Knowing of and personally knowing a few people who also listened to Kamelot and thought that they were amazing.

    45. What is your favorite song by 42?
Scary Kids Scaring Kids — TocarA Pistol To My Temple

    46. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Iron & Wine — TocarEvening on the Ground (Lilith's Song)

    47. What is your favorite album by 4?

  • KFLA Update 2/3/09 - We Shot the Moon, The Lives of Famous Men, Abney Park,…

    Fev 3 2009, 21h32 por TheKnitLA

    Thursday, February 12th
Niña Azufre (Video Release Party), Leche, Dunes, Ruido Masivo, Pet, Los Ultras (acoustic)
    7:00 PM, $10
Niña Azufre recorded an EP in 2007 from which “Prefiero Que” and “Verte Llegar” are fan favorites. They’ve played and toured with some of L.A.’s biggest names like Pastilla, Montenegro, Volumen Cero, Fatima and internationally acclaimed La Gusana Ciega and Disidente. Niña Azufre’s energetic, on-stage antics landed them a spot in Al Borde Magazine’s Acoustic Sessions opening up for veteran indie band Curanderos whom they played alongside at Grita Radio USA’s launch party at right here at the Knitting Factory. This upcoming show will also serve as the debut and release party for the group’s video “Verte Llegar.”

    Tuesday, February 17th
We Shot The Moon, Big Surrender, Ridel Radio (performing the songs of Ridel High & AM Radio), eudora
    7:00 PM, $10
As frontman for the band, Waking Ashland, Jonathan Jones had seen and done it all. Waking Ashland had toured the world, recorded multiple albums, and experienced critical success. At the height of their career, however, Waking Ashland disbanded due to musical differences. With his hopes of stardom now long gone, Jonathan returned home to San Diego and landed a regular job. But in the quiet of his bedroom by the sea, Jonathan began to write. With a few songs in hand, Jon enlisted the help of friends Dan Koch and Joe Greenetz of Sherwood (Myspace Records), and they began to write and record; thus, We Shot the Moon was formed. Teaming up with producer Michael Rosas (Satisfaction, Sherwood), they recorded Fear and Love (Militia Group, set for April, ’08 release) in two weeks, the end result being an amalgamation of the beach rock sounds that Jonathan grew up with (Weezer, Switchfoot) and the modern pop vibes of Sherwood and Hellogoodbye.

    Tuesday, February 24th
Aerodrone, Teen Hearts, The American Life
    7:00 PM, $10
Their song “Sceneboy” is destined for great things, at least the conquering of all iPods in the free world. Aerodrone started in 2007 when Gary Zon started making Nintendo-like tracks on FruityLoops inspired by such bands as Jimmy Eat World, the Faint, and the Killers, with the intention of having the tracks eventually played with real instruments. Recruiting local musicians to fulfill this goal, like Ashton Kutcher-lookalike Kevin Patrick, the newly formed band played shows to frenzied fans in Oregon and recorded the Spin EP in Canada. After the band's big move to California, it gained the mysterious keyboardist only known as the TZA and recorded its latest EP in Hollywood.

    Wednesday, March 4th
    It’s Like Love
    7:00 PM, $10
    From Absolutepunk.net:
“It's Like Love (are) a powerpop quintet out of Arizona. Full of energy and fun, they're a band you definitely shouldn't miss out on. (The EP) I'm Selling Your Things had me hooked from the first listen with each song containing an unbelievable amount of catchy riffs, and overflowing synths. I'm Selling Your Things' lyrics aren't a masterpiece, with many being clichéd and sex themed (But hey, it's not like anything about sex makes anything bad). Overall, along with the music, the vocals, that are so strikingly similar to that of Justin Pierre's, coincide together so well that It's Like Love could easily become one of your ‘Bands Of The Summer.’”

    Thursday, March 19
    Abney Park
    7:30, $25 advance, $30 day of show
Just when you thought we were all out of genres, along comes steampunk. Abney Park comes from an era that never was, but one that we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cummerbunds were proper adventuring attire. They’ve picked up their bad musical habits, scoundrel musicians, and anachronistically hybridized instruments from dozens of locations and eras that they have visited in their travels and thrown them into one riotous dervish of a performance. Expect clockwork guitars, belly dancers, flintlock bassists, middle-eastern percussion, violent violin, and Tesla coil-powered keyboards blazing in a post-apocalyptic, swashbuckling world self-created by the band. Steampunk musical mayhem has come ashore.

    Thursday, March 19th
    Liquits
8:00 PM, $12 advance, $14 day of show
Like the Lafourcade album, the second effort, Jardin, by this psychedelic Mexican trio has been produced by Emmanuel Del Real. The Tacuba keyboardist's ear for intriguing instrumental flourishes adds a master's touch to this new collection by the Liquits.

    Saturday, March 21st
Perfect Machines, The Randies, Dirty Filthy Mugs, lady sinatra
    8:00 PM, $10
Fans have praised the energy and enthusiasm of the live show produced by dueling and overlapping vocals on top of the driving drums, bass and guitars. Comparisons have been widespread, but most often listeners cite the stylistic similarities of Perfect Machines to major acts such as Rise Against, Thrice, and Hot Water Music; understandably, considering these bands represent a prominent few of Perfect Machines’ diverse influences.

    Thursday, March 26th
Beep Beep, Sebastien Grainger, the show is a rainbow
    8:00 PM, $10
Beep Beep takes you on a delicate, disjointed voyage in the spirit of Ruiz’s Three Crowns of the Sailor where no distinction is made between the real and the impossible, a voyage anchored only by the inherent truths of human desire and despair. For members Eric Ray and Chris Terry, it is a journey illuminated by the clash of willful escapism with the looming inevitability of “adult” choices. For them, Enchanted Islands exists as an exotic snow globe allowing them to peer into the window of their taxidermied essence, preserved in its most magnificent form. Beep Beep resides evermore in this sacred place and Enchanted Islands is your invitation.

    Sunday, March 29th
The Lives of Famous Men, The Scenic
    7:00 PM, $10
From Smartpunk.com: “Just five months after releasing their debut EP Rehearsal, the Lives of Famous Men return with Modern Love, The Wooden Vehicle. Produced by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore), Modern Love showcases a wealth of eclectic sounds ranging from jazz to Motown to flamenco to modern pop, with hooks that will have you listening again and again.”

    Wednesday, April 1st
    William Tell
    7:00 PM, $10
From the man himself: “My parent's are divorced. I went to spacecamp when I was ten. I was hit by a car once. There was a Gin Blossoms song on in the background when I had my first kiss. Her lips tasted like root beer. I was in a band (it was called Something Corporate). I write songs. Admittedly, they are mostly about me messing things up with girls, but they're not all about that. I've always been a late bloomer, at least that's what my mom says.

    Thursday, April 9th
    Voltaire
8:00 PM, $13 advance, $16 day of show
Voltaire is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/performer, creator of comic books, animation and toys. As a musician, he is a songwriter whose music can best be described as a collection of murder ballads, tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre, with just enough bawdy songs about Star Trek and Star Wars to keep a Con audience rolling in the aisles. Many know him for his song "Brains!" from the Cartoon Network show The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Voltaire's live shows, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra, are highly theatrical, full of stories and games. The theatrical quality of his performances is not surprising; Voltaire has been directing commercials and animating short films for the last twenty years.

    Friday, May 22nd
    Paul Roberts (of The Stranglers)
    8:00 PM, $12
Paul Roberts is the former front man of the legendary Stranglers, a gig he maintained for almost 16 years. A superb showman; his stage presence and energy have won him rave reviews all over the world. Having written some of the least likely tunes for a Strangler, he is also able to translate them - and indeed any material - not only in the studio but night after night in the live arena too. Concurrently with his Strangler duties, he led the groups Soulsec and the Faithband. At his Knitting Factory show, Paul is presenting an essentially solo acoustic performance in the very intimate Alterknit Lounge.
