Abigail's Ghost

Abigail’s Ghost is a band driven by ambitions that can’t be deterred by hurricanes, floods, or the fact that two of it’s members live halfway across the country. Drummer John Rodrigue and Rhythm Guitarist Randy LeBoeuf both attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA while the rest of the band lives and plays in extreme southern Louisiana. All 5 members hail from the Houma/New Orleans region and have musical tastes as diverse as the Louisiana landscape. While they’re not stuck in a hotel playing Pedro (Southern Louisiana’s favorite card game) waiting for a hurricane to pass so they can return home, they’re studying, writing, and recording they’re own special blend of progressive rock, metal, trip-hop and dixieland (New Orleans jazz).

As if trying to record an album isn’t difficult enough with members scattered across the United States, it’s a veritable nightmare when mother nature decides to cripple your entire city. Lead singer/Lead guitarist Joshua Theriot, himself a graduate of Berklee College of Music, recalls what it was like trying to get Selling Insincerity (2007) released, “We recorded SI months after Katrina and I can remember going to New Orleans everyday passing piles of debris and “Looters will be shot ” signs. It was definitely a dark time for everybody down here.” Despite hurdle after hurdle stemming from Katrina, AG was able to release Selling Insincerity on their own label Aesperus Music a year and a half after the storm.

Loving the heck of out of the new 'unmastered' ep - still retaining a lot of the Porcupine Tree feeling, but also a hint of Tool giving a hard edge that makes them somewhat - there own thing.

Who gives a fuck if it's a ripoff or not. They sound like PT, but the music's great. Like you said every metal band is a Black Sabbath ripoff. Grow up.

    Yup, a rip-off.

Having listened Selling Insincerity, "A LOT [like] Porcupine Tree" is an understatement extraordinaire. Again, there's a fine line between "influence" and "ripoff".

"Their FIRST album reminds me A LOT of Porcupine Tree's In Absentia era but ALSO late 90s' Silverchair." Exactly, I hear Silverchair in almost every song of AG.

Completely Porcupine Tree. Anyways, it's an awesome band. It reminds me to Porcupine Tree's Deadwing or In Absentia their last work. I fuckin' love it.

steal_briefcase, you are harvesting a shit! I was some tired PT songs, but when i heared Abigail's Ghost' is sound like new PT, that's little similar but it is not PT. Young band sounds quallity!

That there is no mention of Porcupine Tree in the bio is just silly. To say they have 'their own sound' is silly. If you were to take someone newly aquinated with PT and tell them that an Abigail's Ghost song was a PT song, they'd more than likely believe you. It's really kinda rare that bands sound this similar, normally at the very least the vocals will give it away.

Just discovered this. I'm also enticed to draw comparisons with other bands, but at the same time it has it's own sound. Loving it already.

I don't like that people compare them to Porcupine Tree , although they are both undoubtedly my 2 favourite bands , and i see the similarities in their sound , but to me theres a certain unique quality in each of them that separates them. Love Abigail's Ghost!
