Milo went to college, and ALL was born. Rather than quietly lay down their tools and fade into legend, Bill Stevenson, Stephen Egerton and Karl Alvarez formed an offshoot band from the Descendents called ALL.
The band first saw singer Dave Smalley in some of the earlier albums such as ‘Allroy Sez’ and ‘Allroy For Prez’. Smalley later gave way to singer Scott Reynolds who appeared on the ablums ‘Allroy’s Revenge’, ‘Trailblazer’, ‘Allroy Saves’, ‘Tony All/Old Girl New Story’, ‘Percolator’, and ‘Dot’.

Once Scott moved on, current singer Chad Price stepped in. Price has spent some time in the studio with ALL as well on such albums as ‘Breaking Things’, ‘Pummel’, ‘Mass Nerder’, ‘Problematic’, and the live album ‘Live Plus One’.

Although ALL is mostly made up of members of the Descendents, and most of the songs are written by the same people in both bands, few can deny that ALL has its own distict sound while still letting the Descendents bleed through.

ALLage!! I actually like ALL of their singers, of course Dave Smalley is one of my faves as well as Scott Reynolds, he has a great sort of raspyness about him that puts my mind at ease.

That's very helpful indeed thanks Bammy...I guess that also explains the group's obsession with the wildebeast. (Gnugear, etc)

I think they came from the SoCal lingo that was being used during that time. Similar to Valley Girl verbage (HAHAHA "age") along the lines of "totally" "oh my ga-wod" & "gag me with a spoon" or the 90's "Is/Are Go!" At least that's what I've been told. Hope that helped.

indeed...does anyone know why there's so much "age" and "idge" at the end of various songtitles? I never figured that one out.

Well the Descendents have their own shoutbox, in case you forgot...congrats, you've earned your punk rock merit badge by trashing All's original unique music and exalting the immature "hardcore" familiarity of the Descendents and its lemming followers, if it wasn't for Bammy and I nobody would talk about ALL at all, they'd just stop by once in a while to remind us of how they're too cool for this mere pop punk band and how things were so much better in the late 70s. Yes ok you're more punk than I am and you've done your homework. Now can you and the rest of the self appointed hardcore punker elite kindly piss off?

haha yes partially I was kinda referring to the Germs actually, Darby Crash and Pat Smear specifically, the latter being Nirvana's eventual guitarist right? He became more sanitized and mainstream, not saying either one was ever anti-semitic, they just occasionally did/said outlandish things to get a rise out of people, not caring what anybody thought...I think we're forgetting punk on some level probably has a disdain for this much intellectualism and analysis anyway..."enjoy my good friends, enjoy" "mustard gas"

@freelance-fiend: Shock value really. At least it was during punk's early days. These days I would say wearing it on stage or anywhere (unless it's clear that it's a joke/point being made - like an African American or anyone who clearly wouldn't normally wear something such as that) is a clear sign of Antisemitism. If you're referring to GG Allin, we all know he hated EVERYBODY. Plus he partook in homosexual acts, bestiality, etc. Not too many Nazis (based on what they believe in) would ever do or condone something like that. There's no question GG was a freak. But like I said, what you saw was what you got. LOL Did that answer your question?

How do you feel about punks who used to wear swastikas on stage and whatnot? What is the gray area exactly?

I don't think "Hetero" was meant to be taken literally. Like Dead Kennedy's songs "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" & "Holiday In Cambodia" it's more hyperbole than a confession of values. And I agree with @hedgecore87 - With GG Allin, what you saw was what you got. There was no gray area.

That's the thing though - sigh - the band name comes from the last album the Descendents released. They're the band that gave us songwriting gems like "Enjoy," "Pervert" and "Van". Plus I honestly don't see how the lyrics to "Hetero" are much worse than "I'm Not A Loser." Need I recite them? "your pants are too tight..." same deal. They're punks, they never grew up, they're not PC...yes they're intelligent on occasion (especially ALL) but people shouldn't feel the need to hide behind "intelligent" bands..they should just be intelligent themselves.

the lyrics are pretty silly (and pointless) and the music is no great shakes. otherwise a great album. as far as the chad vs scott debate goes, i think chad pretty much unquestionably has the better voice of the two, but in terms of the quality of song-writing and material of the period and the overall vocalist/band fit, scott wins by a mile. i love scott ALL (especially revenge) more than almost everything, including the descendents.

Woah, hold on, GG Alin and ALL have a completely different band/scene/music/mindset. i mean, they're really not even comparable. at all. When i listen to GG Allin, i expect to hear offensive crap. When i listen to ALL, i usually expect to hear something intelligent or at least relatable.

I believe Bill wrote "Hetero" and honestly, it's juvenile crap. The album is improved by not playing that track.

You were "pretty shocked" huh? What do you think GG Allin attempts to do when he's on stage? Dance the Watusi? Anyway, I think yall are taking the lyrics too seriously...they could very well be part of his "fucked up head" and this society might not actually aggrandize/idolize gays and the dead to any extent. Relax. I guess I was the only one who thought the whole "redneck ass bastard from hell" thing was amusing. Oh well

I'd say Bammy won that argument. This doesn't have a lot to do with the argument, but i was pretty shocked when i read the lyrics to Hetero, and i can't believe anyone in the band actually agreed to play that song when the lyrics were presented to them. I've only been listening to ALL for less than a year, and i'm trying to go chronologically, so i've only heard their first three releases. (plus Breaking Things) Who wrote the lyrics to Hetero anyway? It's a good example of misplaced hatred. He's finding a scapegoat (gays) to blame instead of himself, for all his girl problems.Of what i have heard, i'd say that my favorite ALL singer is Scott Reynolds, followed by Dave Smalley, and Chad Price.
