Kinda hard to find a lot due to where I live...:/
    Definates:
    The Sword/ASG/Torche 4/3 @ the Soapbox.
    High on Fire/Goatwhore/Watch Them Die/Weedeater 4/16 @ the Soapbox
In Flames/Nevermore/Evergrey 5/08 @ the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach (fuck Throwdown lol)
Between the Buried and Me 5/17 @ the Soapbox
Unholy Alliance Tour with Slayer/Lamb of God/Mastodon/Children of Bodom (don't like Thine Eyes Bleed. Sorry)
    Warped 2006-Rise Against/The Bouncing Souls/AFI/Every Time I Die/Joan Jett/Comeback Kid/Against Me!/boysetsfire/He Is Legend/NOFX/Less Than Jake/Thursday (a hell of a lot better than last year's so far)

    Tentatives:
    Comeback Kid/This Is Hell/First Blood/Ignite 3/20 @ the Soapbox. Tentative now since I'm gonna come back from a flight the day before the show and I might be tired and/or working. Plus CBK's singer left. ;_;

HFStival (wherever and whenever. Just as long as no bands like Fallout Boy or Hawthorne Heights are there this year and they keep it like last year)

  • Welcome to the Neighborhood

    Jan 6 2006, 15h00 por Piglet88

Finally, my neighbors are changing. Now, I'm not saying that I personally dislike anyone who appeared on the sidebar of my page because I don't know any of you personally. However, music-wise, I'm glad they're gone. I mean, seriously... Green Day and Fall Out Boy fans? That's no where near my muical interests.

Meantioning musical interests, when is that chart of mine from 2005 going to disappear? I told Last.fm to delete everything, but my charts are still there, plagued with stuff I was listening to this time last year. Not that I hate Tegan and Sara, AFI, Alkaline Trio, and Dashboard Confessional or anything (actully, I take that back... I do have very strong feelings against Dashboard Confessional), it's just they aren't what I'm into at all anymore.

So with this negative talk, I suppose I've got you curious as to what I do like and listen to. Well here goes:

    - The Dresden Dolls: sure to be my top artist in 2006. They are incredible. Just when I'd given up on all music made any later than 1999, I was introduced to the Dolls. TocarSlide was the first song I heard and it brought me to tears. The Dolls have a way of drawing you into their music... they start out quietly and then it gets more and more intense. I can't recall ever being as caught up on a band.

    - The Birthday Massacre: I would like to thank the sweetest guy alive, Evan (his Last.fm - http://www.last.fm/user/violetkid/) for introducing me to this band. I am completly captivated by songs such as Lover's End, Play Dead, and Horror Show.

    - Jack Off Jill: have you ever discovered this one song that you could relate to so well? TocarVivica was the first song that ever gave me that feeling. I watch you burn in humid hell... no sleeping pills, no old tatoos will save you now. It's a beautiful song. And now, even though Jack Off Jill is over, I'm still completly obsessed. Although, I am grateful for...

    - Scarling.: I'm not too familar with this band, but I can see them becoming favorites. I loved Baby Dracula and Band Aid Covers the Bullet Hole. Although the new CD sounds really mellowed out in comparisson, they have a nice, orginal sound and I still love Jessicka Fodera's voice.

    - Evanescence: now this is a band I can really connect with. Whenever I'm depressed and just need to sing my sorrow away, I pull out my Evanescence music. TocarImaginary, TocarHello, and TocarWhere Will You Go are all beautiful, powerful, and emotional. I can never get enough of this band, even if they kept me waiting and waiting and waiting for a new CD.

On a side note, please DO NOT tell me anything about Lacuna Coil. I wouldn't say they sound much like Evanescence at all and I really could not get into them. Bummer.

    - Garbage: The latest CD wasn't all that great, but that's alright. I am devoted to Shirley Manson.

    - Marilyn Manson: Of course. Anyone who knows me could have guessed that this was coming. I'm completly in love with this band (note that it is NOT just Marilyn Manson who does everything!).

    AND... IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
    - Nicki Jaine
    - Revue Noir
    - Rob Zombie
    - H.I.M.
    - Jill Tracy
    - Caprice
    - Nightwish
    - Katzenjammer Kabarett
    - Agata Kristi
    - Apulanta
    - t.A.T.u.
    - Placebo
    - Alice in Chains
    - Hole
    - Nirvana
    - Goo Goo Dolls
    - Rilo Kiley
    - Michelle Branch
    - Bjork
    - Fiona Apple
    - Allison Crowe
    - Aqualung
    - Goldfrapp
    - Black Tape for a Blue Girl

... and others. Mostly random techno and such.

YES EMINEM, PEOPLE LISTEN TO TECHNO.

  • i saw these bands live.

    Jan 6 2006, 11h11 por tom_dissonance

i've never done one of these journals before, so excuse me for starting with a cliché. anyway, this is a list of pretty much every (name) band or artist i've seen since i started going to gigs in 1996. they're in alphabetical order cuz i can't remember the chronology to any coherent level.

another fun aspect is that i don't even like all these bands. festival free time, support bands, and morbid curiosity all get their fair look-in. some of these bands i really hate; one of them i even came perilously close to a fist-fight with once. this should be entertaining for me if people choose comment on this, cuz they might be approving of all the stuff i actually don't like at all. like band russian roulette. so anyway:

    key:
    * = i've seen this band more than once

  • 1000 tracks and counting

    Jan 5 2006, 15h11 por StuartGilbert

I've played 1000 tracks since I signed up to Last.fm back on Christmas day. So 1000 tracks in under 14 days.

My top 10 artists is starting to take shape now.

    10) Muse
They just beat Arctic Monkeys to the final position on my list. My favourite track by them at the moment is The Groove. It's probably them at their best. You just can't help but sing along :)

    9) Beastie Boys
I recently ripped Anthology: The Sounds of Science (disc 1) and disc 2 (I had to put disc 1 there for it to match :) for my friend who wanted to borrow the CD. I hadn't listened to it for quite a while. As soon as I put it in I knew all of the songs again. You know that feeling you get when you find a song that you worshipped a few years ago that you've completely forgotten about since, and then you suddenly hear it again? It was like that the whole way through. Benny and the Jets makes me laugh every single time I hear it. TocarSabotage is purely amazing, as is TocarFight for Your Right.

    8) Oasis
I'm quite surprised to see Oasis in this list, especially above Muse. I don't have that many tracks by them on my computer. I do have the vast majority of their songs (including B-sides) on CDs and tapes all over the place though. Sometimes you just have to listen to TocarChampagne Supernova or TocarStand by Me though. The new album is pretty excellent and I really do love TocarThe Importance Of Being Idle.

    7) Barenaked Ladies
These guys are awesome. One of only a few Canadian groups that I can name, and certainly the best I can think of right now. They have tracks that make me really happy (TocarOne Week) and some that send me thinking about life and the challenges we face (When You Dream). Nice easy listening music for the most part.

    6) Red Hot Chili Peppers
Absolutely awesome! I can listen to RHCP in pretty much any mood. They have songs that suit me all the time. Scar Tissue is nice to listen to, along with tracks like Otherside make Californication one of my very favourite albums of all time.

    5) Deltron 3030
I'm listening to Battlesong right now. I only first heard Deltron by himself in the last 2 weeks. Of course I know of him because of his work with Gorillaz, but I really like his regular stuff too. Not my usual cup of tea, but definitely in my top 10 at the moment.

    4) The Shins
Very surprised to see The Shins this high up on my list. I can only really name one of their tracks and that's because of Garden State. Caring Is Creepy is one of my very favourite tracks, but I'm pretty sure I haven't played it enough to get The Shins into my top 5. I guess "random" just really likes them. Don't get me wrong, I like them a lot, I'm just not sure how they got so high.

    3) Foo Fighters
I own all of their albums. I think they're the only band I can actually say that about... They have so many songs that I love it's unbelievable. I really fell in love with TocarEverlong the first time I heard it (the live version on the Howard Stern show). You can't beat a bit of TocarMonkey Wrench either. I can pretty much just listen to any song on any album at any time and be happy with it :)

    2) The Offspring
The only band I've ever seen live twice. The first concert I ever went to see was because of these guys. The only reason AFI were the first band I ever saw live is because they were supporting on that night. I don't have all of the albums and I don't really know why. I like every track they've done. Bad Habit is one of my very favourite tracks of all time, and is always fun to listen to when you're driving, or playing GT4 or Burnout. Everyone has to sing along with that one bit "you stupid dumb shit goddamn motherfucker!" That's probably my second favourite moment at a concert ever... The way the whole crowd always gets behind it is awesome. Second only to the Dumb Roll I mentioned in my last post about The Bloodhound Gang.

    1) Feeder
They are a really good band. I love the songs I first heard on Gran Turismo on the playstation and places like that. I don't want to sound like an idiot, but I heard them so long before they became popular it's crazy. The whole time I was walking around singing Sweet 16 wondering how come nobody else had heard of them. I was so happy when they became big, and then so sad when their drummer comitted suicide. Comfort in Sound definitely has a completely different feel to the ones that came before it, and I was a little disappointed because I was expecting some anthems. I've since realised that there are some truly great tracks on that album, but I do prefer the older stuff more, and the newer suff is also an improvement, in my eyes.

So that wraps up my top 10 artist after 1000 tracks have been played. I think Feeder will quite probably be staying at the number 1 spot for a long time because of the sheer number of tracks I have by them. I'll be surprised if The Shins are still in the top 5 by the time I hit 2000 and I'll be very surprised if Arctic Monkeys don't appear.

  • Phases & Obsessions

    Dez 17 2005, 18h45 por lord_gala

I've always listened to music as simply, erm... music! Though, since the summer, I've been going through phases, so to speak.
Before the summer started I was all over Radiohead. Not that I'm not anymore, but just not as much. I was especially into OK Computer and The Bends (the latter's second half, mostly) as everytime I listened to them there was something new, and well, the songs were just so good (some of you probably know what I mean)! I knew them before, but hadn't gone crazy about them like this, now they're by far my favorite band.
The summer was Jimmy Eat World, then more JEW, then more, and again, more. Since I listened to them mostly on my MP3 player while I was on vacation they didn't manage to top Radiohead in my list, otherwise they probably would have.
Then there was Bright Eyes. I got to know the band through I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Digital Ash in Digital Urn. I liked those two albums, but just liked them. It really started when I got my hands on Fevers and Mirrors. Simply loved it. Amazing album. This was, again, during the vacations, so Mr. Oberst didn't get to top my list either.
Afterwards, pretty much with the start of the Fall semester and all, I listened to loads and loads of emo/punk stuff. Jimmy Eat World was still there, of course, and I was already over Green Day's American Idiot (though I still like it a lot). The ones I really got hooked onto were Weezer (knew them before, didn't liked them as much as I do now), Alkaline Trio, Fall Out Boy, and Ash (more or less). Awesome stuff. Surprisingly enough, despite their popularity, AFI didn't really strike me. The band still has a long way to go. Then there are the bands I listen to every now and then, just for fun, but don't really take them seriously like blink-182 and The Used. There are probably lots of other bands I'm forgetting right now, but I don't really feel like going through my music library to make sure :-P
And then there is now... Right now I'm quite hooked to Depeche Mode, and I like System of a Down's Hypnotize. There's also Moby, Belle & Sebastian, Damien Rice,... Ah, screw this! Who's gonna read this anyway?!!
