9. AFI- Crash Love

1. Muse- The Resistance

Honorable Mentions (no particular order)
Disappointments
This album drastically changes direction once again. In their previous effort, 2007's Conviction, Aiden aimed for a more poppy-mainstreamish vibe. In 2009's Knives, the album's ridiculously short length of twenty-five minutes of raw ass punk obviously didn't impress me. It would be nice if they converged all previous records into one....(Our Gang's Dark Oath, Nightmare Anatomy, and Conviction) now that would definitely make an amazing Aiden album.
Andrea Ferro, I do not care if you are one of the original and founding members of Lacuna Coil, but if the band decides to kick you out one day, or you decide to leave, I wouldn't mind. Mr. Ferro's vocals are worse on the is album than previous albums....please leave the singing to the beautiful voice of Cristina Scabbia....PLEASE!
Instruments are amazing. Yet, what the fuck is up with Alex Varkatzas' clean vocals? I could have sworn that he said he took singing lessons during the recording sessions of their previous album Lead Sails Paper Anchor. Leave the singing to Brandon Saller. Now he has an amazing voice.
Anticipated Albums of 2010

Most-Played 2009 Releases
Dez 28 2009, 2h10 por goldinmyveins
notes:
* This is sorted by plays per song, as last.fm's method of sorting by total plays is hugely biased against EPs. My method is probably biased in favor of shorter albums, and as a result #1-7 are all EPs.
* This is biased in favor of albums that came out early in the year as I've had more time to listen to them.
1. Title Fight - The Last Thing You Forget
July
Run For Cover Records
median plays per track: 46 (I am only considering the new songs, not the re-released ones)
own: CD, pea soup green 7" with special screen-printed cover, black 7" with regular cover
I love Title Fight. Everything they have released is just so incredibly epic. There is a passion in it that you don't normally find in pop punk.
favorite songs: Symmetry, Western Haikus
2. Transit - Stay Home
January
Run For Cover Records
median plays per track: 42
own: CD (special album release show version)
more epic pop punk. I can't get enough of this band. The best parts are where they layer the vocals, for example the "keep running" part of "Stay Home."
favorite songs: Stay Home, Stays The Same
3. Such Gold - Demo 2009
March
self-released / tracks re-released on Stand Tall 7" on Mightier Than Sword Records
median plays per track: 33 (including plays of these same songs from Stand Tall)
Such Gold does the pop punk/melodic hardcore blend like Title Fight and Transit (noticing a pattern here?), but they are faster, more The Movielife inspired.
favorite song: Four Superbowls, No Rings
4. The Wonder Years - Distances
March
No Sleep Records
median plays per track: 31 (for TWY's tracks only)
own: 7" white vinyl (with very faint red and blue splatter)
With this release, particularly "It's All Over Now Baby Blue," an ode to a stolen bicycle, they have managed to sing about life and optimism and dealing with shit while still having some of the humor of their LP.
favorite songs would be silly as there are only 2
5. Agent - Awake In Their World
January
Run For Cover Records
median plays per track: 31.5
own: 7" red vinyl
this is something I sort of stumbled upon and really love. You can't understand a word they are saying (ok, maybe a few words), but you can feel the emotion in it.
favorite songs: Tough Lake Mr. Muenster, Current
6. Make Do and Mend - Bodies of Water
this was originally self-released as a free download late in '08, but it was re-released by Panic Records in March '09
median plays per track: 26.5
own: black screen-printed vinyl
melodic punk/hardcore at it's finest. They capture the loud/soft dynamic really well, there are a few awesome moments where they start out quiet and then it just explodes.
favorite songs: Winter Wasteland, TL
7. VersaEmerge - VersaEmerge EP
February
Fueled By Ramen Records
median plays per track: 24
this album sort of caught me by surprise. I was expecting this to be another pathetic attempt by Fueled By Ramen to cash in on Paramore, I love Paramore but Hey Monday is just terrible. In reality, they don't sound like either of those bands, instead they compare themselves to Circa Survive (who needs to release another damn album already, or at least resume touring) There's this eerie, Tim Burton-esque vibe to their songs that is really cool.
favorite songs: Past Praying For, Whisperer
8. Fireworks - All I Have To Offer Is My Own Confusion
March
Triple Crown Records / vinyl on Run For Cover Records
median plays per track: 21
own: blue vinyl
this album is pure pop-punk the way it should be, no frills and no bullshit.
favorite songs: Show Me Your Vanishing Act One More Time, I Support Same Sex Marriage
9. Set Your Goals - This Will Be The Death of Us
July
Epitaph Records
median plays per track: 19
own: blue vinyl
as many bands do, Set Your Goals has tried to expand their boundaries with their sophomore album. And I'll admit that when I first heard "Gaia Bleeds" my reaction was pretty much "what the fuck is this?," but now I love it. To be honest I don't like this album as much as Mutiny!, but it's still fucking great.
favorite songs: The Few That Remain, Summer Jam
10. A Loss For Words - The Kids Can't Lose
May
self-relesed / vinyl on Willow Tree Records
median plays per track: 18
own: clear vinyl
I was never a big fan of AL4W prior to this release, I loved "Half-Step Down," but nothing else really stuck with me. With this album they have definitely converted me.
favorite songs: A Half Step Down, Heavy Lies The Crown
honorable mentions:
11. New Found Glory - Not Without A Fight - 17 plays
NFG just keeps getting better, "Right Where We Left Off" is one of the best songs they've ever written.
12. Caleb Lionheart - Think Hardcore, Play Pop Punk - 17 plays
catchy stuff.
13. Latin For Truth - Eleven Eleven - 16 plays
LFT was my favorite local-ish band when I lived in Atlanta. They are on hiatus now or something...such bullshit.
14. A Day to Remember - Homesick - 15.5 plays
I love this way more than I should, they're kind of terrible and yet awesome at the same time.
15. Paramore - brand new eyes - 14 plays
this album is really surprisingly good and would be a lot higher if it hadn't come out so recently. -
Albums of the year 2009
Dez 27 2009, 11h36 por tin-heart
after being thouroughly disapointed by the critics choices in kerrang and rock sound i thought i'd share my own top 5 ablums of 2009 for anyone interested (i estimate about 2 people will read this)
so anyway
1) A Day To Remember
Homesick
yep, this is my album of the year. yes it's poppy and uses the same breakdown in just about every track but there is literally no album i've listened to as much in 09 as this beauty. just like thier last album it's so addictive and catchy and heavy enough to throw down to as well. unfortuanatley loads of little kids have tagged onto it though.
2) The Red Shore
Lost Verses
This is definately not for the little kids! I was blown away by how heavy and technical these auzzies are. they make suicide silence sound like briteny spears. Now they've signed to road runner hopefully TRS will get some of the recognition they deserve in 2010
3) The Ghost of a Thousand
New Hopes, New Demonstrations
One the critics seem to agree with me on, my home boys TGOAT have expanded their sound on release number 2 and it works! They are also one of the best live bands around so go see em, pick up a CD and have a chat to their frontman/ HMV employee/ all round nice bloke Tom
4) The Casino Brawl
shades; directions
UK metalcore crews 1st full lengh. i was a bit disapointed to hear they ditched the gothic synths of thier early work but they replaced them with some really catchy and well thought out songs so I can't really complain
5) Set Your Goals:
This Will Be The Death of Us
Though it's not quite as good as previous album Mutiny! its still a great slab of fast melodic punk, and how often do you hear that these days?
Runner up: Silverstein:
A Shipwreck In The Sand
