Fri 21 Aug – A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise 2009

Lowlands 2009, zoals elk jaar, werd er vooraf weer goed gezeken op het programma. Ik vind het nooit zo heel erg als er weinig grote festival acts te vinden zijn, er is genoeg moois te zien. Al was ik wel blij geweest als ze Snow Patrol of La Coka Nostra binnen hadden kunnen halen, maargoed de 99% zekere supprise act maakt alles goed.

Het probleem, volgens mij, is dat de festivals in Amerika steeds meer in trek zijn bij de grote namen, zodat deze zomer de grote-namen-bezetting wat minder groot bezet is.

Enfin, donderdagavond stond ik (net als ooit 10 jaar geleden) weer bepakt en bezakt in de rij voor een polsbandje. We zijn weer thuis!

Vrijdag 21 augustus
Ik begon de dag met Roosbeef, zij is iemand die je òf helemaal geweldig òf helemaal niets vindt. Ik vindt haar dus helemaal geweldig. Live nog veel beter dan op de CD. Er kwamen vlagen Jeff Buckley en vlagen Jacques Brel voorbij, maar wel in haar eigen stijl. Mooi! En dat het niet helemaal goed gaat in het begin is alleen maar schattig.

Het plan was om halverwege naar de White Lies te gaan (en naar de rest van de groep die mij bij de India achter lieten). Ik kwam pas bij het laatste nummer bij de Alpha aan. Dan maar wachten op Paolo Nutini, lekker ontspannen in het gras gelegen. Heerlijke stem die gozert, je moet alleen niet kijken maar er een ouwe grijze kerel bij voorstellen. Kortom: volledig uitgerust op pad gegaan naar Bon Iver. Ik kende ze/hem/het nog niet echt goed, maar deze mannen met baarden maken erg mooie muziek. Echter desondanks de mooie witte pakken ook geen band om uren naar te kijken.

Na zo'n lading mooie en vooral rustige muziek had ik even de behoefte aan lekkere pokkeherrie. Daar hadden ze bij de organisatie op gerekend en stonden de heren van The Blackout in de India. Leuke band, ik heb alle CD's (nou ja, twee exemplaren natuurlijk). Geluid was helaas helemaal ruk: blèr te hard, zang te zacht, gitaar te zacht, etc etc. Gelukkig vond de geluidsman dat ook want hij was druk in de weer. Na het 5de nummer was het een beetje onder controle. Ik denk dat het een moeilijke zaal was, want er waren meerdere geluidsmannen in problemen bij de India... Maargoed dat mag de pret niet drukken, lekker bandje toen de blèr wat zachter stond. Ze hebben wel erg goed opgelet bij de danspasjes van de mede-screamo-hardcore bandjes.

Dan via de biertent, de toiletten en weer de biertent per ongeluk bij Ghinzu beland. Mooie vervanging van de Soulsavers! Hier gaan we maar even wat van downlo...ehm...kopen. Niet helemaal afgekeken, want we wilde graag in het eerste vak bij Faith No More. De kerel is helemaal geschift, maar wat een strot! Goede show voor die ouwe lullen, en gelukkig weet de toetsenist wel waar hij zich bevind. Ik vind het wel stoer dat ze nummers inzetten die de Backstreet Boys nog te zoet zouden vinden en het nummer afmaken met een scherpe metalen rand. Screw the rules! Oh, vergeet ik helemaal dat ik nog bij Spinnerette heb staan kijken. Nou ja, maar goed ook dat ik dat vergeten ben.

De avond valt... BELGIEJUUUUH ! 2 Many DJ's steelden als echte lowlands veteranen de show, de show die The Prodigy vervolgens als vanouds afmaakte, dit keer zonder stroomuitval!

Zaterdag 22 augustus

Lijst 12: Party Partij. Lekere band, zwingende muziek, beetje Sam Sparro zangetje. Helemaal goed, volgend jaar Alpha afsluiten?

Jaaaah gaatie weer op z'n bas staan? whoohoo! Beste nummer niet gespeeld helaas (English Army), White Noise daarentegen heeft wel wat hit potentie.

Ik wil een CD en wel nu ! geen kritiek, alles wat Dave of Josh produceren gaat erin als koek (zelfs Humbug;) )

De muziek is anders dan de naam doet vermoeden, het is doordeweeks voor deze weekend vampieren. Ik wist vantevoren nog niet precies of ik ze leuk of niet leuk vind. Ik ben eruit, helemaal leuk voor een zomerse dag.

Stonerrock van de bovenste plank. Ik ben fan, neem alleen wel een nieuwe geluidsman aub.
