Favourite Track: Tigerlily
Maybe you have to adore 80s synthpop as much as me to fully appreciate this album but GOD it's an 80s revival masterpiece, even thought it took about 6 listens to realise that. I give the first 6 tracks all 100/5 stars and the last 6 5/5. Who cares if Elly is a cunt?

La Roux is my ultimate favourite of the year which is why it's placed #1st, the rest of this list is in alaphabetical order by artist (according to my WMP 2009 list)

Favourite Track: So Light Is Her Footfall
It reminds me of Moon Safari/The Virgin Suicides Air which is great, tons of cute heavily accented English in it which I also adore. Perfect album for falling to sleep to as per usual with Air.

So I hate everything about emo/screamo vocals but the music's so good I'll let it slip; there's only a tiny amount of screaming anyway and it doesn't bother me

His lisp is adorable really omg. It's a shame the best song on the album (by far) is a cover, kind of.

Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster

Brown Eyes is 100 times better than Speechless though FYI.

Favourite Track: MK Ultra
This album is actually really really really terrible for a Muse album, it doesn't stand up to anything that came before it even slightly. MUSE ARE AN AMAZING BAND THOUGH SO OBVIOUSLY THAT MEANS IT'S ATLEAST DECENT A DECENT ALBUM. I absolutely love 5 of the 11 tracks, the other 6 are terribly boring.

If you don't already listen to Shiina Ringo (you're wasting your ability to hear) then this is a great starting point because it's more accessible than her older albums. Not anyway near as good as SS or KZK though, 2 of my favourite albums ever - but it's impossible for any albums to ever top them for me probably..

浜崎あゆみ - NEXT LEVEL

Favourite Track: Sparkle
I have high expectations for Ayu albums so I refer to this as awful all the time but after quite a few listens it's not THAT bad compared to most other J-Pop - I don't really hate any of the songs on it so it ranks #3 along with PAST＜FUTURE for Japanese album of the year. Still her worst album.

Incredible song made to be the theme song for Final Fantasy XIII yet it's being replaced for the European/American release by none other than Leona Lewis?! My Hands by Leona is a great song but this is infinitely better. HOPEFULLY My Hands will be replacing the insert song Eternal Love and not 君がいるから.

Here are the top 10 best albums of 2009. This is a definitive list so it isn't just my opinion... it's the actual best of the year. Each artist has a suggested youtube track on each album that I think showcases the album. Go fuck yourself, god.

#10 ALI PROJECT - Poison
ALI PROJECT are known for their orchestral work and lyrics that make you want to kill yourself while wearing fabulous clothing from the 1800s. This album has a bit more of an electronic shift from their previous releases, which was awesome. It also has a bit of jazz and rock in it. Many different emotions while you contemplate why you are alive on this wretched planet.

#9 Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster
Fuck you if having Lady Gaga on this list loses some credibility because this was an actual decent album. This surpasses her debut album, that probably everyone has memorized due to radio play of every track regardless if they have downloaded it or not. The Fame Monster is a more mature, darker, dancier album that makes you want to work it in your apartment at 2am while doing your stupid math assignment that shouldn't have even been due before the exam.. god damnit I will make sure my prof suffers for eternity.

#8 Dragonette - Fixin To Thrill
Kewl electropop courtesy of Dragonette. I have no idea why this album didn't sell a billion copies.. or even a million.. or like even 1/2 or a 1/4 that.. because it is awesome. Makes you want to dance. And dance I did, all through the latter half of 2009 thanks to this. I voted this higher than the Lady Gaga album, because this is better. What? Really. Check it out.

#7 ravex - trax
A bunch of jap artists made a rave album under the moniker ravex. Popular artists like Namie Amuro, Tsuchiya Anna (土屋アンナ), DJ OZMA, BoA (she is an exception though.. what a flop bitch hope she has a slow, painful death), etc collabed to make a very awesome rave album. I have to note that it is so lol that the so-called celebrated dance artist Ami Suzuki (鈴木あみ) wasn't asked to join this album. It is may be because Ami has a long series of flops under her belt.

#6 she - Orion
Unfortunately, Capsule didn't release anything during 2009 besides a compilation album, so She (or She Music as he is sometimes refereed to as) released this awesome electro album. Some people said this album was chiptune, which is FALSE. It's not. But it's full of distortions.. apparently he likes to mimic the effects of a damaged mp3 file. Kind of cool.. if you like it, go back in his discography and check out the albums Coloris and Chiptek (which is actually chiptune).

#5 安室奈美恵 - PAST < FUTURE
If I made this list any time before the last few weeks of December, this album wouldn't have been on it because it was yet to be released! And, to be honest I didn't really think it would be. But, Namie Amuro is back with a "hip pop" (that's her creative portmanteau of "Hip Hop" and "Pop") album that puts all of the other J-queens to shame. Namie Amuro constantly delivers time and time again and this album is no exception.

#4 Metric - Fantasies
Metric is a Canadian alternative rock band. The lead singer, Emily Hanes, does a brilliant job on vocals and keyboard here. To be honest, I hate labeling any band with the word 'alternative' because what does that even mean? In my context, it simply means they stand apart from the rest. Fantasies was a fantastic album.

#3 Meg - BEAUTIFUL
Yasutaka Nakata is a famous producer from Japan. He skyrocketted the careers of many artists with his electronic beats. MEG is an artist he producers. Her stuff doesn't really reach mainstream appeal. It is more experimental, I would say. Regardless, her 2009 album BEAUTIFUL lives up to its name, and subsequently is an eargasm.

#2 Perfume - ⊿
Perfume. You've probably heard of them before. They made an explosive debut in 2008 with their album GAME. GAME album featured a heavier technopop sound and combined with their innocent girl look and creative dance moves, their 2009 album ⊿ (pronounced as triangle) became a similar hit. This band actually was featured on last.fm's official best of 2009. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW IT'S AWESOME THEY WORK IT SO HARD YOU WISH YOU WERE THIS COOL IN YOUR TEENS.

#1 椎名林檎 - 三文ゴシップ
When Shiina Ringo announced that she would resume solo music and put out a release in 2009, I wasn't sure what to expect of it. She is such a dynamic artist.. the singer has releases ranging from rock to jazz and pop to enka. She "ended" her solo career in 2003 with the critically acclaimed experimental rock album Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana. Since then she has been the front runner of the rock/jazz band Tokyo Jihen (東京事変). This album encompasses everything she is as an artist without holding back. Each track is as diverse as her 10 years in the music industry. I am 100% confident listening to this album makes you a better human being.

Best musical discoveries this year

1. Negative Approach, my new favorite band.
2. Infest, my other new favorite band.
3. OM, a name that I've read many times and never paid attention to, now I regret I didn't listen to them before
4. Can
5. Cannibal Ox
6. Kamelot, decided to listen to them after many years of hearing how good they are, it's the only power metal band that I can listen to without being bored after five or six songs.
7. Леонид Фёдоров, another new favorite.
8. Belle and Sebastian
9. The Magnetic Fields
10. Einstürzende Neubauten
11. The Fall, another band I finally listened to, after a couple of years of many people recommending them to me.

Other releases that caught my attention..

Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings, I think this is slightly better than Systematic Chaos, which means it's still bad, but I wasn't expecting anything from them so it was bit of a surprise. Still, I wish they went back to do demos before going in the studio, maybe get an outside producer, and please don't let Portnoy sing anymore.

Nightwish - Made in Hong Kong... this has to get the award for the most pointless release this year, a live album with only new songs and an audio quality that sounds like a badly recorded bootleg, the band's performance isn't very impressive either. Don't see why anyone would buy this.

Slayer - World Painted Blood, a bit of a surprise I suppose, this album is not very special, but it should've been much worse than it is, not only is not completely bad, but it also has some good songs (Psycopathy Red, Unit 731). Sure it's more of the same, but it'd be foolish to expect otherwise from Slayer.

Blut aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars. I have mixed feelings about this one, this was my first non-Industrial Blut aus Nord album, I like it and I think it's very well done, but I still prefer their weird industrial/dark/creepy sounds from The Work Which Transforms God or Odinist.

Inferi - The End of an Era. This is a good album from a genre that I don't like very much, that's why I don't include it among my favorites, however I have to recommend this one to any melodic death metal fan.

Sonata Arctica - The Days of Gray. Didn't like it, I understand that they'd want to change or evolve their sound, (they don't seem to be taking many risks but whatever) I respect that, but this new "Prog" sound is boring, I think the world doesn't need more Power/Prog metal bands. So unless they go back to the cheesy/repetitive/Stratovarius-like sound of the first albums (which I doubt) I won't be listening to any new releases from them.

Ken Snyder - By Request Only. I'm both happy and sad that this album leaked, it's nice to finally be able to listen to it, but now it's lost some of the legendary status it had. However, the album is quite good and Modern Religion is great song.

Delain - April Rain, this was fun to listen to for a while, the music's good and Charlotte's voice is very nice, don't know when or if I'll listen to this again, but it is a good album, and better than the first one in my opinion.

The Agonist - Lullabies for the Dormant Mind. This was a big improvement from their previous album, it is a bit generic and I wouldn't call it good, but if they keep improving like this I imagine that by their fourth or fifth release they could become a very good band.

Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You, silly, catchy pop music with nice hooks, don't know if I should like it, but I do.

Immortal - All Shall Fall. left me indifferent, it's not bad but I find it a bit lifeless, maybe it's my fault for expecting something else from them (as a rule I try to listen to an album without expectations of how should it sound), maybe it needs a couple more spins, but so far I don't like it much.

This year releases from Obscura, Hiroshima Will Burn, Trepalium, Black Sun Aeon, Hieronymus Bosch, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Ignominious Incarceration, Centaurus-A and Ulcerate, they all sounded the same to me, I'm not the biggest death metal fan, but it's starting to sound very boring, just an opinion, I don't consider those albums bad and I liked Centaurus-A and Ulcerate's releases, but I'm losing interest in the genre.

That's it for this year, I think.... there are a couple of albums I didn't get the chance to listen to, but overall I think it was a good year.
