This is my first journal entry in three years! What better time to post a new entry than at the end of a decade? JPopSuki has an open poll for its users to vote for the best Japanese albums of the decade, and I decided to post my own selection on Last.fm as my own way to celebrate the coming of the 10's and send a farewell to the 00's. My good friend LeOnlovesJapan and I compiled what we believe are the BEST 20 ORIGINAL ALBUMS of our favourite artists. As in previous rankings, I have left out my dear モーニング娘。 and other idol groups from the list to reduce what may be called irrational fandom bias. The albums are listed in no particular order, and only one work per artist was allowed.

YES.

So, I'm not gonna go track by track, just overall thoughts on PAST<FUTURE by 安室奈美恵

Let me just start by saying, that I'm a casual Amuro fan (I don't like or want everything, but I like more than some) and I've very fond of Best Fiction.

HOWEVER SHE COULDN'T HAVE PRODUCED A SHITTIER ALBUM IF SHE'D TRIED.
The entire thing is just awful and I honestly can't believe it's selling like it is.

My fav track is definately WILD and when this single was released I fell in love with it. When I heard that this album would be released, I was quite excited.

However as the new tracks with PV's started to come out, the expectations of the new album drastically fell with every one.

FAST CAR is just a complete mess. The music doesn't fit the lyrics. The lyrics don't fit the music. The music itself barely scrapes through as music.

other tracks released as promotion for the album, Copy That & My Love are both boring and irritating.

All the tracks are more of the electro-pop style, and I'm sorry, but Namie doesn't do this well. The only redeeming track the album has apart from WILD (the only single released prior to the album) is LOVE GAME and the effort put into that is mediocre at best.

All in all, I'm VERY disappointed, and am glad that I'm not the sort of Amuro fan who pre-orders everything regardless. Because I can GUARANTEE that I would regret getting this one, and if possible cancelling my order, or otherwise selling the cd.

Please Namie, don't ever, EVER try another record of this style again. It doesn't work well for you, and this kind of release is the kind that either makes or breaks so for any fans and listeners.

This time I don't really feel like writing about some of the individual albums as I've always done on my "Recently Purchased" posts, mostly because I want to take time to work on my "Best R&B Albums of 2009" list and more importantly, now that the year 2010 is actually coming, "Best R&B Albums of the Decade" on the way.

As in the past few years, December is again a quite big month for R&B music in both quality and quantity and some of the albums that I picked up on this post, such as Untitled, Sex Therapy: The Experience and The Element Of Freedom, will surely make the year-end list, too. Graffiti doesn't sound that good to me at this point, but hope it will grow on me in the coming few days.

Anyway, all that I need to say here is that Snoop's new CD is seriously very good. The latest album, Malice n Wonderland, is musically-sophisticated and vocal-heavy and thus may not be something for those who want some "gangsta shit" from him, but if you are an R&B fan and have some favorite songs from Snoop, this is definitely a must-have for you. Even with the contributions by a variety of producers and guests like Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, Lil Jon, Scoop DeVille, Jazmine Sullivan, Danja, R. Kelly, Pharrell, Brandy and more, this album surprisingly has strong consistency and has turned out to be something that only Snoop Dogg can put out. It's great to see Snoop, in his late 30's, has taken some huge steps forward with the latest few releases.

I'm bored and my top artists have changed a good bit since I last did this, sooo I'm doing it again xD And I decided to do this for my top 30 instead of my top 20. Because I can.
