Before there were standards and expectations on what a drum machine should be, and shouldn't be... there was the tr-909. Wonder why I'm such a fan. Simplicity, a raw and simple interface... lots of options... and some of the phattest kick drum sounds ever. There was a time when you couldn't make dance music without one. Today we have JoMox, Machinedrum, and Drumazon, but all those would never have come to pass without the magic that is the tr-909. (originally posted at Lx7.ca)
