  • where is the old generation of indielovers?

hey first of all, my english is a mess. but anyway, i will try it

I read it in the "best british accent in indie bands or else..."

And the whole discussion was about the kooks, how indie they are and artic monkeys and whatever. the average age was maybe 16, not older.... am i indie if i listen to bands like these? dont think bad about me! i like their music, mostly... but wherever i read things about indie is only to find the commercialism of the product indie... the killers the kooks etc...Bands like Hadouken, Joy Division or Arcade Fire arent in their lists od bands... thats only an example of bands, okay? ;)

so what do you think about my problem :P

and im really sorry about my grammar. long time ago i visited a school :)

    whatever

    cheers

well... after what i roughly understood of your post, i would like to reply this to you:
the kooks and arctic monkeys started of as small bands, not thinking of big things yet.
the ol' arctic monkeys, for instance, were just a bunch of lads making good music in their small town. but they got to grow bigger, and then started to be part of the whole music industry thing.
the kooks however, is one of those bands who started with a great debut album, then started to be hyped all over the place (& being 'overplayed' on the radio of course) which took their charm away and made them one of these bands that are made to please the people.

-don t know if anything of what i said above actually makes any sense, but unfortunately, i decided to continue-

(here, if my instinct is correct, you must have already moved on to reading something more interesting than my random stream of thoughts)

so what i really think about indie, or maybe what you ll call 'old indie', is mainly composed of bands that are just producing music that they want to. (ie. in my opinion, the first album of the arctic monkeys is definitely some indie bijou) but that labelling a genre indie is quite a maladroit thing to do.
i ll say, these bands should be those who are eccentric in a why, and not existing for massive fame (ie. kings of leon).

but if you try to struggle to look for those 'old indie' bands, trust me, it s surely a pain in the neck. just try to look out for those bands that aren t overplayed on the radio, who try to make something different, & who don t really care about being those famous rich kids.

finally, all i want to say is that, the most important is to listen to what you like, and don t get influenced by other s opinions.

ps. the killers aren t anyhow indie. (even not a £££ indie band. :P) but it s true that the NME is a good source for 'indie'.

''don't get influenced by others opinions''

Are you a mentalist or something? how are you going to develop as a music lover if you dont listen to other peoples opinions??

Anyway, in response to the first post:

The style of person you are, is how you feel you want to be branded. For example my dad (52) is a fan of Dizzie Rascle and 50 Cent, Doesn't mean he walks round Bristol with a gun in his trousers, and a 8ft gold chain round his neck!
I on the other hand like my underground, (indie) music, my electro music, and rap! so if i was to dress like what i 'should' look like. i would look like a Getto Clown!!

My Point is, i do understand what your saying, but how you want to express yourself is up to you. Have your opinion and keep to it. You can say what you want, it doesn't matter. its YOUR view.

I see what your saying about Indie and Mainstream.

Indie = Independent music / Underground

But whats happening, is Business. Theses Independent bands. Elbow, Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Kooks (to name a few). Are/Were the Indie music of the time, then they became popular as what they were doing 'customers' enjoyed. This then got played on the Radio more and more and more. Acrtic Monkeys were such a Success in the UK as they were so Fresh. These are still an Indie group as thats where they started they have just become Popular indie band!

Thing is there are lots of bands around now and i cant remember songs from last year, or even two years ago because there is nothing that special.

i still go through my Brit-pop collection and bring out my 'Classics' see Britpop Bands at Wiki. I have started to compile a list as i forget what Albums have changed me as a person. My Link to my Top Albums

and im really sorry about my grammar. long time ago i visited a school :)
Don't Be, Write in your native language if you want. i know plenty of people to translate!!

    Sub note:

the Music industry is big business, i dislike record companies and always have done [i can explain but its Rant]. But there are things in life you have to accept!!

    :)

    schönes Wochenende!

mainly to sam_george: don t misunderstand a statement and start offending people around. what i meant is that, whatever you like to listen to, if people criticise your taste or express a negative opinion about your music taste for instance, don t feel obliged to change yourself to feel more 'blended in'.

suggestions, i think it s what you mistook the word 'opinions' for, is definitely a good thing. & THAT S how you get to develop your music taste.

o, and by the way, no, i m not a mentalist.

Sheffield is a "small town"? It's the 6th largest city in the UK!

i thorght that was quite funny too!

A suggestion is backed up by an opinion.
Dont eat french food, beacuse its shit [[Suggestion, Opinion]]

If you have to use the phrase "what i meant is that" then clearly you have not explained yourself correctly in the first place!

try something more well know and use the phrase!

Don't Knock it till ya tried it!

and why can't you use apostrophies?
