  • I give myself like a three, my English accent is pretty weird, like a mixture between Irish, British, North American and of course my usual Spanish pronunciation

  • Hmm... dunno.
When I started studying I used to speak like an American.
After two years of attending phonetic classes I do think my accent is OK. I find it easy to repeat the melody, pitch, tone. I never asked a real British person about it. The people whom I teach say it's awesome. Though I do not think they are reliable judges. I'll give myself 7.5, just to be on the safe side.
I absolutely adore Irish accent, but the last time I tried doing it I made my friend laugh like hell. Oh well... I'll practice more.

  • Pretty bad! My english teacher calls me George Bush Jr... xDDD

    10/10, perfect accent, buuuuuttt...

I have an extremely weird resonating voice which sounds thoroughly evil and possessed similar to the Goa'Uld or the Deus ex Machina from the Matrix, in whatever language I speak. Thus so, the voice acting parts I did in the past were mostly like those like Prof. Moriary 'sophisticated yet evil' characters.

Nonetheless, I can make every-one believe I'm English, in fact, when I talk English it goes effortless, largely because Dutch schools teach British accents (RP even) and with me it's mostly the reverse when learning languages, accents are easy, grammar, vocabulary is hard. I had a perfect German accent already the third German lesson I had but I couldn't speak it for shit, same with French.

I don't understand why people find accent that difficult, grammar and vocabulary is hard, therefore you have to study and practice, accents you just pick up.

  • I'd give myself 3/10 ...since I started learning english from USA teachers I picked up the american accent... but my friends and I practice the brit accent

  • I think I'd give myself between 3-4/10 that's because an american native speaker who taught me for pretty long:P

  • well i would have to give myself a 8.5/10

I have no Regional accent, so i am a Real Brit, im not posh, working class or common.

I have voice Mannerisms like "Jimmy Carr".

    Whey!

Just seen a sign outside B&Q: "Stainless Steel Sinks". Bit obvious, I thought

Except for the fact that your accent is one of those unique ones that is like no-one elses accent! For example, Birmingham is in the Midlands, but the Birmingham accent is nothing like the other midlands (ex Stoke, Derby, Nottingham) accents.

It's the other way round for British people. But that's because we are genetically flawed at being able to speak foreign languages, cut us some slack :p

  • That is difficult... rating your own accent. I really do try to speak with a good accent, as close to English as possible and my friends say I speak like those on the records for listening comprehension...

"It's easy to be miserable. Being happy is tougher- and cooler."
  • I can't rate my accent, I love Estuary English pronunciation and all southern accents...

I have been told that I don't sound "very Aussie" by one of my english friends.
My parents are Scottish, so are a couple of my work colleagues, I have a few English friends, I watch heaps of British TV (lots of Mighty Boosh) and listen to a lot of British music. I find after a few bevies, this mungril accent comes to surface and there is not a thing I can do about it... It's kind of a mix of your Brummie accent (mungril English) with a twist of ayyes, ooootss and rolled "R's" and from my Scottish roots. It must sound ridiculous to the Brits... haha...
