    instant answer

    Glenn Gould.

Shyntwyss, there are no recordings of either Chopin or Beethoven's actual playing, though surely they were both excellent performers. I think the question is meant to be who's your favorite pianist, not your favorite composer for piano.

    Performers
Ex equo : Glenn Gould and Sviatoslav Richter, but on different composers. I listen to Gould's interpretations for Bach, Schönberg and sometimes Gibbons ; and I listen to Richter's ones for composers like Schubert, Liszt, etc.
(I've also read almost all Gould's writings about piano, interpretation, and the composers he loved. His essay about recording is wonderful and acute. I recommand them to anyone who's interested in musical analysis and theories.)

I often listen to Alfred Brendel's interpretations, as my mother is a huge fan of his.
And I've recently heard Martha Argerich playing Bach : it was great.

Clara Haskil and Wilhelm Kempff in first place. Just like Burak. I definetely have to check out Samson Francois! :-) Oh, and Alfred Brendel of course. To me, the best Schubert interpreter. He's quitting his career as a pianist this year in December, I hear. :-(
Does anyone know Kempff's interpretation of Beethoven's piano concertos? To me it's still the best performance of these works, it's unaffected and funny, I love listening to it!
And Clara Haskil's Mozart concertos, in first place KV 271, 466 and 491, are wonderfully touching! She was such a great musician...

I have this: Wilhelm Kempff - Beethoven: Die Klavierkonzerte, Conductor: Paul von Kempen, Berliner Philarmoniker
According to Wikipedia.org : "Kempff recorded the complete Beethoven piano concertos twice as well, both with the Berlin Philharmonic; the first from the early 1950s in mono with Paul van Kempen, and the later in stereo from the early 1960s with Ferdinand Leitner. "

I meant the later stereo recording under Ferdinand Leitner! It's the one I have. :-)
