I've pretty much abandoned Emusic as a vector for finding new music. It's just too expensive to be used in that manner now. Last.fm is one good way. The main policy I hate though is their redownload policy. Especially when their downloader is so utterly broken and charges you a download when you can't even download it. You have to expend a second one to actually get it to download with their linux manager... unless you want to do an elaborate save the EMX file, then run emusic remote from the command line.

Totally sucks what happened to eMusic June of 2009, but life goes on I guess. I canceled my subscription for about 3 months in protest. Came crawling back with an eMusic basic plan just so I could download a few hard to find artists. I've got better things to do than spend hours wading through piles of shit on p2p networks! So my new strategy is to use last.fm to discover new music, then buy the occasional album or two at eMusic when I find something I really like.

This came from emusic-- "There is a temporary issue with Mac OS X and the latest version of Firefox, which is 3.5.2. We recommend that you use Safari if you are able to, or temporarily disable your download manager until this issue has been repaired."

I've been having issues lately with downloading as well. I downloaded the newest version of Emusic downlaod manager. Before I was using emusic remote. The new program seems to be a big improvement, when paired with camino/safari.

Is anybody having issues downloading tracks after upgrading their Firefox browser? I've just upgraded to 3.5.2 & whenever I try to download tracks off emusic Firefox quits completely? But it says I've downloaded the tracks :)

I'll admit I'm still sticking around emusic--but I've pulled all my reviews and ratings in protest. It used to be about checking out what people used to say--but now they're not getting any help from me hawking their increasingly over-prised wares.

Hi there.I wanted to register at emusic for 7 days trial but at second step of registration there're always errors: "registration did not complete, please try again.." etc.Do you know something about this from your own experience? Maybe it's about card?

just downloaded Elvis, Lou Reed, Dylan, and Springsteen all on a per track basis. with my booster I am going to get a Elvis box set for a whopping 20 dollars. thats a total of 140 songs, more than my old plan for less money. Deals can be had. Now the real question is how many are out there? Once i fill in the holes of my collection there will be little reason for me to stay. the ride was fun while it lasted. Even when being very thrifty and using my downloads to the fullest it still just does not work out. at least in the long run. there are far too many albums that cost more than 12 credits. eMusic is micromanaging instead of making the site intuitive and prices linear. the site is just a giant web of prices. I've taken out the old calculator just to see what I am actually paying. well at least on large box sets.

Hey all right, this is the first time I've seen a $20 album on eMusic since I stumbled upon one that was a collection of 99 5-second sound effects a couple years back. :-P http://www.emusic.com/album/Various-Artists-Vexille-Soundtrack-MP3-Download/11073475.html

Everyone who still hasn't canceled, you should definitely go through your downloads and look for any albums with over 12 tracks which you've already bought 12 tracks from and which are now 12-track-price-deal-free-to-complete things; I just got 36 free tracks that way. :-P Peanuts64, the vast majority of tracks can still be downloaded individually, it's just a few long or otherwise record-label-hogged ones that can't. :)

eMusic is really out to screw the old subscribers. From my monthly 65 downloads, they have reduced it to 37 this month. They have also made it impossible to download single tracks - (I may be wrong in this). I have been with eMusic since 2003 and have loved the way I can try out the music of artists unknown to me - with only a fraction of the cost of an album CD. It's sad to know that the management of eMusic only knows the dollars and cents of their business. I remember the saying, "He who knows the price of everything, knows the value of nothing." I may be cancelling my account after I make sure that I have a copy of all the downloads I have done all these 6 years.

The upside is, now we can cancel our accounts without worrying about paying more because of it should we ever wish to resubscribe! ;)

I do not believe that emusic really cares about its current customer base. We are rather closed minded about anything that changes our perfect little music Nirvana. They are in it for the money bottom line. we are too small an audience that doesn't want to pay a whole lot for music that no one else really cared for. They want the majors to sign on. we will not take them there with our grandfathered plans. although i do agree they royally screwed the pooch on this one. they alienated a very loyal customer base for no reason. They basically took away everything that was worthwhile about Emusic. and are asking us to pay more for content that we already were enjoying. asking me to pay more for Dylan, ELO makes sense. To everyone who says they will unsubscribe please follow through. I Believe it is the only form of protest available to us. since quite obviously they don't care about our written opinions.
