• Aaaand we proudly present you: Last.fm 2005' Nostalgia Layout Edition. Brought back…

    Fev 19 2009, 1h12 por Celuie

Okay, I coquettingly wanted to do this, since the first major layout change after the conjunction of Audioscrobbler and Last.fm back in 2006.

Now, up for doing a new layout for last.fm once again, after half a year now, it was Girl_in_uniform that actually convinced me to go through the procedure of putting together a most close to the original version as possible CSS code adaption of last.fm back in the old days....

Therefore, we proudly present you: Last.fm 2005' Nostalgia Edition!

    You know the drill,
but for those new to last.fm Styles:

1] Install the Firefox Add-On "Stylish", passionately recommended, lover, at best on Firefox 3 | Direct Installation Link
2] Click onto "Load into Stylish" at the respective userstyles.org page for the Layout you'd like to have,
in this case Original Old Last.fm 2005' Period (Get Here)
    3] Done!

Group for this Layout Here, for conjoint Nostalgia.

(In addition, if you are interested in getting the Weekly Charts back on your Profile again, Last.fm user tutal33t was so kind to make a script for it available. | Link
You'd though need to install the Greasemonkey Add-On before in addition to the other plug-in. | Direct Installation Link)

    All yours,
    Celuie and Girl_in_Uniform

Name your top ten artists on Last.fm:
    01. radiohead
    02. adam green
    03. lcd soundsystem
    04. elliott smith
    05. liars
    06. libertines
    07. babyshambles
    08. patrick wolf
    09. klaxons
    10. pulp

How many times have you listened to number one?
    148

    Is this your favorite band?
sure, why not, sort of, along with elliott smith and neutral milk hotel. and the beatles and raymond scott. whatever really.

What got you into number one?
ok computer. which i didn't really get into right off the bat but then my dog ate the cd and i had to get another one and that's the point at which i realized how great it was. i was what, 14...

Why the hell have you listened to that so much?
because they've been my favorite band since 8th grade or so. most people agree anyway so there's very little i'd have to justify. it's fucking radiohead.

    Favorite songs of number one:
big boots. street spirit made me cry when i was 16. i covered creep in high school, along with everyone, and punch-up at a wedding in college. last flowers is very pretty. climbing up the walls used to be my favorite definitely. once i witnessed a car crash right next to me at a stoplight right as the song climaxed. oh, and punchdrunk lovesick singalong. oh, and i covered you never wash up after yourself in high school too. and fake plastic trees! alot i guess, but those are all amongst my favorites. ya know. there's alot more too. but i'll leave it at that. this is just for my records.

Something you think you’d thoroughly enjoy doing with the band?
    that's ok.

    Favorite memory of the artist?
of all the times i've seen them, probably at bonnaroo. everyone was pissing themselves in the audience cause nobody wanted to miss a thing of their 2 and a half hour performance. thom yorke's favorite gig of theirs too. easy to tell why.

How many times listened to number two?
    146

    What got you into them?
seeing him in milan. it was a great show. i didn't realize he had other good songs other than jessica. i quickly realized that just about all of them are good. probably just makes me happier that about anything else.

What makes you like them so much?
cause he's so easy to listen to. fun, dumb, and a damn good time. greatest pop songwriter of our generation.

    Favorite songs:
friends of mine, twee twee dee off the new album cause it's god hanson on it, drugs, the one that goes "goodnight to my new dead wife...",

    Favorite memory of artist?
seeing him get dragged off the stage in milan by two hot groupies. i think that's how the show ended. can't complain. you could see the guy was happy.

How many times have you listened to number three?
    97

Would you pay thirty dollars to see them in concert?
i'm pretty sure i did pay that much to see them with the arcade fire. and i certainly wouldn't pay a fucking penny to see the arcade fire. but then lcd started early and i wound up missing more than half of their performance. fucking shitty.

    Who's your favourite member?
i don't know. the long haired guy who looks like he should be in a metal band. doesn't matter.

    Any fave songs/memories?
tribulations, that song with 2 versions.../seeing them live the first time at the showbox in seattle. sweatiest vicodin fueled dancefuckfest i've ever been to at that place. got that shit movin'.

How many times have you listened to four?
    95

Would you go fishing with him?
yes, that would be very nice. i do indeed with that was a possibility.

Any particular emotions run through you when you listen?
oh, well, the best kind sadness and the 2nd best kind of happiness. was definitely my most played artist in college. perfect for ruts though, and i try to stay out of those these days. that's why i've turned to dance music.

    What songs you like best?
i've covered 2:45 am, like that one alot. xo is probably my favorite album ever, so anything off of that but especially everybody cares, everybody understands. kings crossing of the unfinished material. one particular no name # on roman candle. i can't recall the #...yeah.

How many times have you listened to five?
    93

    What’s so intriguing about them?
albums all vary in styles, so they span 4 different moods all of which are common for me to have. the spiteful dancepunk, the experimental witch concept, the smooth berlin drum experiments, and the pop pop. plus i met them and actually liked them, so that's always a plus.

Could you imagine them in a circus?
    they could do that, sure.

    How many times for six?
    92

How many 3’s in a <3333333 would you give them and why?
ooh i've never given someone threes before. i'll give them three! cause it's a magic number! and so is 7 i guess.

    How many times for 7?
    91

I hear 7 is a magical number, is this band magical?
i don't think so. either way, three is the magic number, not 7.

What are some of your favorite songs and what memories are attached to them?
fuck forever, pipedown, la belle et la bete. i saw them in bologna, italy, at a carnival. doherty has high and drunk and entertaining as all hell. probably even a sweatier and more fun show than the previously mentioned lcd one. it was just so fucking surreal.

    How many times for eight?
    84

How long have you liked this artist?
i don't know, since his second album came out. 2004? wind in the wires. that's a damn fine album. then the magic position took it in the other direction. from gray piano to technicolor sythesizer, and they're equally great.

What are some songs you like/why?
accident and emergency, and i can't remember the name but if you can fill in the blank "my name is ______ and i am alive", that one. i really can't remember alot right now. there's blanks fucking everywhere. i don't know what's up with my brain. i usually retain this shit and alot more. oh yeah, it's monday.

Which member would you most enjoy a good square dance with?
there's just the one, so...but yeah that's got potential to be fun.

Random fact you know about the band?
    he's totally gay!

Poor nine and ten, how many times you listened to them?
    -9: 79 -10: 78, poor them!

Why have them as number nine and ten, where is the loveeee?
i didn't put them there. last.fm did. besides, i'd say 9 and 10 is pretty fucking good. i have several thousand artists i listen to, ya know?

How long have you liked them?
klaxons since they started being hyped in nme. i thought i'd check 'em out for a laugh, and realized that their music is solid solid solid. not a single criticism for this band. great songwriting. as far as pulp, the first album is got into was this is hardcore when i was 16, i guess. i found it to be an album that really allowed me to get in touch with my sensual side. soon after that i got different class, which is amazing. and a few years after that his n' hers, at which point i realized, is there any limit to the amount of good material this band has released? so i checked back even further and got every album they released since the 80's. they developed a great deal, but seperations, actually, might be my favorite album of theirs.

What are the poor artists from 11-20?
    11. islands
    12. raymond scott
    13. spoon
    14. beatles
    15. crystal castles
    16. bright eyes
    17. mogwai
    18. interpol
    19. belle and sebastian
    20. frog eyes

yeah, pooooooooor them. especially the beatles. the poor poor beatles.

If you enjoy the music of any of the following artists, chances are high that you'll want to join our group and listen to the new Velvet Folk radio.

(Sadly, the latter is only available to subscribers.)

While I'm not big on genrefication for its own sake, I hope this select group of musicians will speak for themselves as to what makes them so special.

Some VF artists include: The Innocence Mission, Azure Ray, Over the Rhine, Stina Nordenstam, Natalie Merchant, Vashti Bunyan, Kings of Convenience, The Sundays, Mazzy Star, Sufjan Stevens, Ida, Rosie Thomas, Emiliana Torrini, Iron & Wine, Jim O'Rourke, Julie Doiron, José González and Leigh Nash.

Excusing the occasional rock-out song that sneaks through an imperfect filter, we hope you enjoy the new station.

Please send any recommendations or MP3s to velvetfolk@gmail.com.

    Happy holidaze!
