    Delphine?

Does anyone know any details about Delphine? There doesn't seem to be much information about her on the Internets. Apparently she was Belgian, and the backing tracks for "La fermeture éclair" was We The People's "In The Past" (which I haven't heard yet). That's about all I know.

What was the connection between a relatively obscure Florida garage band and a Belgian Yé-Yé artist?

Did the band record with her, or did they just put the master tapes in the mail?

This song is interesting to me because the music features the always rare, rock harpsichord (!), and that crazy, modal bazouki melody.

    Hooré for Yé-Yé!

    Thanks very much,
    Andy

    oops.

Of course I meant to say "bouzouki", with apologies to all group leaders of Greek ancestry.

    Delphine

The "In the past" track was a track from the Chocolate Watchband. I can send it to you by e-mail.
No info about Delphine, sorry !

Hmm...funny. The Chocolate Watchband are #19 in my "Overall Top Artists", and I didn't even know that. Thanks.

Now that I actually looked in allmusic, it looks like it might go back even further to The Shadows in 1966.

Also, I discovered that I had another We The People song called "She Does Everything For Me" on the Oxford American 2006 Southern Music CD, which is really good.

    Kudos!

Kudos to you! One of my all time favourite tracks is La fremeture eclair. I wish I had more background info on Delphine. :(

There's also a detailed article about We The People in the Oxford American Music Issue with the CD. No mention of Delphine. Some of the We The People band members are still around.

It's a pretty good article. Made me want to check out more of their stuff!

hrm hmm-hmm...answering my own question again...

Finally heard "In The Past" and she really did use the master minus the vocals. The instrumental tracks are exactly the same. The version in her song doesn't seem remixed at all.

  • Delphine "La fermeture éclair"

"Nothing is true, everything is permitted"
  • We The People "In the Past". Nice catch, Boccista. Maybe other US garage/psych tracks were used as backing for euro/yé-yé songs - for me the addition of some French adds a certain "je ne sais quoi" :-)
