richardrw Could there be two more different soul singers that Janis Joplin (born January 1943) and Sade Abu (Born January 1959)? And, yes, I consider that both are essentially soul singers - Joplin with rhythm and blues leanings, and Sade with a jazz orientation. Joplin's delivery is a gutsy give it all, life body and soul, and my-music will-save-the-world, or I'll die in the attempt (as indeed she did) whilst Sade's singing style is way more cool, calm and precise in it's delivery. Both have commanded a worldwide audience - Joplin at Woodstock; Sade at Live Aid. Sade is the better songwriter of the two, but Joplin is for me the the more memorable musician, because she did give it her all - in every sense of the word.
