west midlands (region) consists of birmingham, wolverhampton, herefordshire, shropshire, staffordshire, warwickshire and worcestershire. unofficially the region spreads as far as gloucestershire and oxfordshire.

- Population > 750,000 - Birmingham.
- Population > 250,000 - Coventry, Stoke-on-Trent, Wolverhampton.
- Population > 100,000 - Dudley, Walsall, Telford, West Bromwich, Sutton Coldfield.
- Population > 70,000 - Newcastle-under-Lyme, Nuneaton, Redditch, Shrewsbury, Solihull, Tamworth, Worcester.
- Population > 50,000 - Burton-upon-Trent, Cannock, Halesowen, Hereford, Kidderminster, Rugby, Stafford, Stourbridge.
- Other Notable - Leamington Spa, Leek, Lichfield, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick.
