  If it doesn't scrobble, go to: Tools / Preferences, click on Show Settings / All, click on Interface / Control interfaces, check Submission of played songs to last.fm "audioscrobbler", click to expand menu + Control interfaces, click on Audioscrobbler, enter your username, password, click on Save, then restart VLC. Play a song and wait until the end of the song.

  GASP! I'm getting VLC to scrobble. Instructions: look at this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/3fMI8.png Ensure the "Submit played tracks to Last.fm" box is ticked. Ensure correct username and password. Once saved, close VLC and start it again. Seems to work for me at the moment.

  apparently vlc has become quite unstable over the last couple of releases. I have used it for 2 years now but I just switched to a different player for audio files. Sad to leave this once fine media player...

  @AmbientSheep: hmmm, I use VLC 1.0.6 (Goldeneye) and scrobbles perfectly (on Slackware Gnu/Linux and Xubuntu). I didn't try it on Windows tho.

  Meanwhile though, I've just had to finally go back to using Winamp to play my music (nothing beats VLC for video though), as every now and again it decides to submit all of my tracks twice, which is playing havoc with my stats. I suspect it may be to do with the fact I'm also sending them to MSN Messenger's "Now Listening" feature, but it doesn't ALWAYS do it. Sometimes it will be fine for days, and then the next time I start it up, it's doubling them again - it's absolutely infuriating. Also not terribly impressed that last.fm accepts two plays of the same track that both carry the same timestamp as valid. Surely it should automatically reject one of them? But it doesn't, and if I manually go and delete one of them, the other vanishes as well! (Hmmm, perhaps that indicates they'd only be counted as one in the end anyway...but I can't risk it.) I've looked on the VLC forums and there's been one or two other complaints about the same thing, but no solutions. What a shame.

  Imfromthenet: in VLC, go to Tools-Preferences-Audio and near the bottom (you may need to scroll the right-hand pane), the option to put in your Last.fm username and password are there. IMPORTANT: after you do this, you need to closedown and restart VLC.

  It happens when you turn on the scrobbler before connecting to the internet. Maybe that's the problem? And maybe try to reinstall both the scrobbler and your player.

  I love VLC's versatility and the iPhone app to control it, but I wish the controls were as intuitive as GOM Player. Either way, it's much lighter than MediaMonkey (my preferred audio player) or even aTunes (another audio player a la iTunes but MUCH lighter, really good for Linux and older Windows computers). Now, I've scrobbled a dozen different ways!

  I use VLC as default video player and is really good.No problems.Much better than WMP and others.You can know when an AVI file is broken and, considering most video files I download are AVI,that´s great for me.

  Yes the absolute best media player on earth. Hands down. I use to play everything and dumped all the rest media player. And now it can also scrobble tracks. What an awesome piece of software
