  No offence, but I think you guys are taking this a little too seriously... I understand where you are coming from, but at the end of the day, who really cares if your charts have Nasum as your top artist when you are not a huge fan, and GY!BE as one of your lower artists when they are your favourite. Does it change the utility you gain from listening to music? If the answer is Yes, then I don't think last.fm is for you, as you would appear to be valuing your profile statistics over the enjoyment of listening to music itself. But I would agree that having this as an add on or split feature would be pretty cool/interesting.

  I support this groups cause. Currently my top artist is Regurgitate because one of their albums may contain 30-40 short songs. I'm not even a big Regurgitate fan, I spend way more time listening to Today Is the Day, PJ Harvey, Swans, or Coheed and Cambria. I'm almost afraid to listen to Regurgiate now, my charts make it look like I'm some fanatic when I'm not.

  Yeah it would propably be too much of a trouble for them, they should make a new scrobbling system or something. :/ But if there're enough us here demanding for it, they'll do it I hope! I wouldn't mind if I had to reset my plays.

  Punk bands plays would go way down..... and progressive and experimental, and post rock bands plays would go WAY up. But idk how lastfm would be able to tell. See how a lot of the track lengths are messed up, a lot just say :30. But i would support it if they could make it work.

  Tracking by number of tracks rather than length makes sense as long as a user only listens to formatted corporate music (all songs clocking at 3:00), in which case the stats are representative because lengths are comparable. So, the current model is appropriate for the masses and it probably will NOT change any time soon.

  well imagine how much impact it would have. time spent listening to the longest LP by Linkin Park is like the time spent listening to one track by Kashiwa Daisuke. I guess pop 3-minute-song-music benefits from the current system.

  I agree with this idea. I listen to a lot of progressive stuff, and I don't think my preferences are properly reflected because everything is tracked by number of plays. If last.fm doesn't want to remove the current set up, then they should at least find a way to allow you to switch the settings so you can view things by playtime.

  I have no idea why they came up with scrobbling in the first place... not just registering gow long do you listen to one or another artists... I love drone and today I listened to it for more than a hour but got only 3 tracks scrobbled... that is not fair at all

  I simpathize totally. I listen to a lot of post rock and the best tracks span from 10 to 30 minutes. I hate the fact that BY!BE doesn't even appear in my top 10
