    Promotion

Yes, there are a lot of people out in the world who will love your music when they hear it. But how can we let them hear?

This is the thread for promotion help.

    You lucky bastard!
  • Tips

A good start is of course to put your best pieces on

    - MySpace
    - GarageBand

...and similar places. If you got some good videoes of you performing your music, you could also put these on

    - YouTube
    - Google

There's probably also local versions of these kind of pages in your respective country as well. (Here in Norway we have Uhørt and NRK Urørt for music as well as Norwaylive for video, which started yesterday.)

Put your best material on these pages, write short and detailed who you are and what you've come to this world to do for music, put on some good pictures and you got it going. Update all this information regularly to keep the interest. Of course, do also make a website which you can link to, but with all these pages that's not the most important. Just make people able to easily get in touch with you - who knows, maybe you'll get in touch with people who could put you in touch with record companies and concert managers?

That's my tips to you, and that's what I'm doing myself, at least with Oles and my band, Superpygmé. The only thing I'm missing is the music development in all the other things I'm doing... :P

  • Hellay,

good topic, Ole, and I agree with both of you!
From my point of view it's important to have a standardised information text which is up-to-date and can be found on all of your artist pages.
Try to create an image, so that people remind you when they read your name or listen to your music.

Here are homepages that feature an "Dominik Müller" page:

    International:
    MySpace
    Audiostreet
    Last.fm
    MyOpera
GarageBand (thanks for the link, Axel!)

    German:
    MP3.de

Additionally, I created a homepage that features the same information basically: www.dominik-mueller.net or www.dominik-mueller.net/english

And of course it's good to give your material to online review magazines and other homepages that could feature your music.
Does anybody know if there is a possibility to get a bandpage on progarchives.com?

    Best regards,
    Dominik

Progarchives only add when they get requests, as far as I know. And you must have released an album or an EP, of course.

    Nell James should be added!

    You lucky bastard!
  • What does "released" in this context mean? I released three albums, but only private and in the internet - so you can't buy them in a CD shop.
So is it released or not? ;)

We should push Nell James on ProgArchives, right now!

    (And me, too! :P)

Well, I think you should be able to buy it in a CD shop. I think...

    You lucky bastard!
  • Thanks guys ;-) Though you can only buy my CD on my website. I think it's "released" if it's being sold for money in some form.

  • Damn!
    My music isn't buyable!
    Stop capitalism! ;)

    (Axel will kill me :P)

By the way: Are there organisations in your countries which are similar to the German GEMA (that "takes care" of your music copyrights if you are a member and wants your money for every little shit, for example if you publish your *own* music on your website)? I hate those bloodsucker organisations, they are just highly bureaucratic and have nothing to do with music...

  • ProgArchive

    Additionally:
I found this text on ProgArchives:
Our intention is to host the most complete progressive music (Art Rock - Progressive Metal - Canterbury / Jazz Fusion / RIO - Krautrock - Psychedelic / Space Prog Rock - Symphonic Prog Rock - Zheul) discography and describes them. Every band is a welcome addition whether they were active 35 years ago or even if it's a younger one.

However, it is and heavy task and therefore we need help of collaborators. If you know a band that should be described or featured here, please send us information about the band and we will add them to the database.

We need to know the following information:

1- 1st paragraph: Short history, list of current and former members, style & similar bands
2- 2nd paragraph: Describe the better cds without mentioning their songs
3- End with mention (recommended, highly recommended or not)
Special Notes: When using band name ... write them in UPPER CASE and album name must be between "..." ex: MARILLION "Brave".

    Woohoo! ;)
    I'll recommend Nell now...

    You lucky bastard!
  • Are you "Steinway", Ole?
Well, chopper's opinion is crap. Everybody I showed Nell's music said "Gentle Giant!". So it has to be prog! :)
    Hmm...

Bye the way, where are you Nell? I'm waiting for your next longer email day and night! :P

(You've shown my music to people? :-)) Maybe he listened to just 10 seconds of "Images". Or maybe he thinks prog is only Rush-sounding music or something. I wonder who the guy who met me is.

Aww! I'm sorry! I have been sick and finding it difficult to muster the brain power for writing. I will write some now.

  • Okay, no problem! Hope you're feeling better now!

Of course I showed your music to people. The Skybirth drummer likes it (progemil, he is also in this group), the guitarist does not like it (he is more into Steve Vai guitar and no GG fan) and the mainstream pop girls who listened to it at my school journey liked the voice after all...

    We'll get you on progarchives.com, don't worry!

    Best Regards,
    Dominik
