UNDERACHIEVERS PLEASE TRY HARDER

http://www.underachieversclub.co.uk/

A CLUB AND GIG NIGHT AT THE ROADHOUSE, MANCHESTER

EVERY 2ND SATURDAY AND EVERY LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

Underachievers was born from house-parties and indie discos. The idea that one should be abit more like the other. At the time we felt like everything interesting we heard, we rarely heard out. The night should be fun, fresh, and mean something to someone more than drink offers (although for the record, £3 doubles).

We don't like to clearly define what we play. To some we are an indiepop night- we've played Indietracks, we're named after a Camera Obscura album. All fairly logical. Yet The Guardian recently described us as the leading clubnight in Manchester's 'lo-fi DIY revolution.'

So what do we play? Well, it's alternative indie, but it's not designed to soundtrack chin-stroking. From new wave to no wave, noise rock to indiepop, with Underachievers there is always something to take away. There's the basis of a pop song or a hook, however heavily it's disguised.

Somewhere along the way we invited a few bands to play live first. And through that things snowballed a little. From local bands we wanted to help break to wider crowds, we've now had people like Chad VanGaalen, Comet Gain, Allo Darlin', Those Dancing Days and Male Bonding play for us.

The door tax (this includes both bands and clubnight) - £3 before or anytime with flyer / £4 / £5 after midnight and without.
And those drink offers again - £3 doubles and mixers

*We also have a DJ residency upstairs at Fuel Cafe every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month*

Here's what the press have said -

2011 - MEN Best Indie Night

'Manchester has a fine tradition of clubnights centred around live music and this indie/rock night is arguably the best of the moment. ' (The Guardian)

'There's a lo-fi DIY revolution going in Manchester, with bands including Milk Maid, Weird Era and Patterns, and club nights such as Underachievers Please Try Harder.' (Guardian New Band)

'The best Saturday night out in town for the discerning indie kid.' (Manchester Music)

'The best place to discover new bands in Manchester.' (MEN)

'Consistently being more challenging and relevant than anything the city’s indie venues have been pedalling.' (Pigeon Post)

'The wonderful Underachievers' (Drowned in Sound)

We used to do a Friday one aswell, but Saturdays did far better! I think most people enjoy there being somewhere else to go on Saturdays. At least for twice a month, anyway. Btw- your band are ace Ben!

Have you ever thought about moving to a Friday? I'd come every week but on Saturdays it takes a lot to drag me away from the Star and Garter!
