I think that we shouldn't be closed for different music styles so I'd like to know what kind of it u like the most, some band's names please, too;)

Personally I like: j-music(more than like - it's love;)), industrial, darkwave, classical music and sometimes metal (especially black/death and power)^^

I like Jrock, symphonic metal, soundtracks and classical. And some random artist like Enigma, Michael Cretu and Myléne Farmer. I listen too some 80's music; synthpop and hard rock and 80's gothic music :3

I listen to everything except country and rap LOLZ

But, seriously, I'm pretty open to a lot of genres. I love metal (except power, although there are a few exceptions), shoegaze, folk, noise, just all over the place in general.

  • All kinds of Black, Death, Doom, Gothic, Industrial, folk, Pagan, Midieval))

  • You'd have a hard time finding a genre that I don't like at least something from.

I've been listening to a lot of Dalek lately; Dalek being a rap duo who's signed to Ipecac records. If you're looking for "not goth", I guess that fits the bill. Musically, they remind me of Portishead (except with rapping rather than singing). Very well-spoken, too.

I'm also really enjoying the new/only Grinderman album, which is pretty far from goth (although since Nick Cave is in it, I'm sure there are a lot of goths who are all over it).

Other than that? Lots of rockabilly, horror punk, some metal. Standard stuff, mostly.

I listen to Within temptation, sometimes i do listen J-rock, OST from my favourite movies, Placebo, Björk, Industrial, Jean Michelle Jarre (I really like him),... (this is difficult :S)... Rhapsody, Metallica, 80's music...

    and i think that's all

please let me join this group ^^

  • Darkwave (Diary Of Dreams, Sopor Aeternus), Black Metal (Marduk, Nargaroth), Death Metal (Deicide, Morbid Angel), Death\Doom Metal (My Dying Bride, Novembers Doom, Paradise Lost), Funeral\Doom Metal (Until Death Overtakes Me, Pantheist, Scepticism).

  • Except Gothic -
Doom Metal, Ethereal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Sympho Metal, Darkwave, Ambient, Industrial, Midiaeval, sometimes Folk, Trip-Hop...

Jmusic, doom metal,industrial,electro...sometimes some classic music :P

  • Except classic gothic genres?I like post-punk, new wave, psychobilly, rockabilly, gothabilly, punk, horror punk, dark ambient, ska, reggae, classic music, folk, synthpop, indie rock, industrial, some country, jazz, chillout and few metal bands....

  • My other stuff...

I'm into a lot of different stuff. New Wave, post-punk, deathrock (I love deathrock), alternative, some Industrial... I'm not too into metal, but I like some of it. Some of the non-goth bands I listen to are Kill Hannah, The Smiths (those two are my all-time faves), Cinema Strange, The Deadfly Ensemble, Tragic Black, The Birthday Massacre, and Switchblade Symphony. Some of these are a little borderline goth, I guess. Deathrock and Industrial tend to sort of overlap with goth. I guess that's why I like it. :D

i don't consider myself as part of goth subculture. i prefer ti call it all darkwave culture.but i hate jmusic and their wannabe goth things... sorry.... and yes i hate m. manson also don't kill me now...

  • I hate MM too :P I love j-MUSIC (don't you think that sound is the most important thing?). I don't like at them that wanna be goths also but I've noticed that they just don't really know what is gothic, I just can't blame them for that ;) And not all Japanese bands are trying to style themselves like goths (for example: MUCC, Dir en grey, abingdon boys school :])

yes you are right. the image of western gothic doesn't mean anything to them. they simply don't have bauhaus- tradition and all generation grew up on batcave.
as fsr as i understand their styles, they completely differ style of dressing from lifestyle. we all consider it as a way of living. they just consider it as fashion.

i have friend who explained that things to me. she's Lolita and studies society in japan in general so i suppose she knows....

  • Yeah, visual kei is some kind of expressing emotions on stage and only there - after the show all j-rockers come back to their normal lives and way of dressing ;)
