Next favourite group

  • Impossible for me to answer, as I don't even known who my favorite is! ;-)

    The next best 4:
    ELP
    King Crimson
    Gentle Giant
    Yes

  • Next?

Peter Gabriel first of all!!! 2nd Genesis...

    Next? Not in sequence:

    Pink Floyd
    Sting
    Police
    Radiohead
    Battiato
    R.E.M.
    Johnny Clegg & Savuka
    U2

I really often heard something like Mike Oldfield, Steve Winwood, Muse, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Queensryche, Mezzoforte, Counting Crows, Yes, Ultravox, The Cure, Placebo and so on... some song are really fantastic, but the bands in my "top ten" play only fantastic song!

  • I could fall in an error but for me:

    Pink Floyd

  • Yes, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, or Electric Light Orchestra.

It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out.
It doesn't matter much to me."

Genesis arent my favorites in the first place, but had they only released their best albums, I would certainly consider them to be my favorite band. As it looks now, my favorite band is probably Magma. Other favorites include Johannes Brahms, Gentle Giant, Charles Mingus, Van der Graaf Generator and Art Ensemble of Chicago.

  • Hm...Genesis is one of my favorite bands but I don't think they are my favorite. I think my all-time favorite still has to go to Led Zeppelin. It may sound very cliche, but they are indeed an incredible band with an overall great discography. They are also amazing live. Plus, they really got me into rock music...so I owe them a lot!

  • Uhm.....
    Neurosis or King Crimson

    Face the panic of today
    Breaking barriers of yesterday
I fell into the line of fire
I broke down in the line of fire
    Shattered past, and future fears
Take a moment far away from here
Cut the strings and fly away
Cut the strings and fly away
Taste the hell you put us through
Grace the heavens I could promise you
Take a hand in the line of fire
Make a stand behind the wire
  • Peter Gabriel first off.

    Probably Yes.

  • The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds thru Holland), followed by Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, Alice Coltrane, Popol Vuh, Magma, Ramones, and the Carpenters (seriously).

Not all reflected in my charts, of course.

  • but had they only released their best albums, I would certainly consider them to be my favorite band.
Surely you can just ignore the other albums? That doesn't make much sense.

  • .

Peter Gabriel, Marillion and Pink Floyd.

  • Next favorite group? Tough one, but I'll play along....

    Marillion.

I started listening to Marillion during their Fish-led days, and continue right up to the present with Hogarth. I consider "Misplaced Childhood", "Brave" and "Marbles" masterpieces in progessive rock. Their latest, "Happiness Is The Road" (2008) shows the band reinventing themselves, again. Marillion never rests on past achievements....15 studio releases to date....always progressing. Also, it doesn't hurt that they are perhaps the most fan friendly prog band around.
