    Welcome!

    Hi everybody!
You may wonder why another group that has to do with early Gabriel-era Genesis. That's quite simple. The leader of the group named "Genesis" banned me, because I wanted to bring life into that group and did that also successfully. Until I had started to post constructive and encouraging threads in the forum, nothing, absolutely nothing had happened in the group - for two long years. elhecktoro, the leader, just had been sitting there and twisted thumbs.

This group will also cover the later Genesis era, not just olden days. I will mainly focus on the early days, while NiceguyChris will focus on the later years.
Please feel welcome here. Every constructive participation is appreciated and requested. Active members will soon receive additional rights, so that they can create journal entries etc.
And, of course, also criticism is welcome, if it bases on facts. The tone of discussion should be polite, following the netiquette. Users are banned only if there is a sense of common understanding within the group. There's only one person that's not allowed in here. Guess who... ;-)

  • Just a quick welcome, seeing as the Dr. Has everything pretty much covered!

Just to recap, while we both will be covering both era's of Genesis, although we will each be focusing on a different era:
I will be foucusing on the Collins Era while Dr.Martinus will be focusing on the Gabriel Era.

Anyway, Enjoy your stay while in this group, and lets make this the most enjoyable Genesis group to be part of, hence the name "True Genesis".

    Take care for now....

    Mr. Niceguy (Chris)

Hi, I'm Alexander from Norway, and mostly listen to the Gabriel-era of Genesis

  • Hello!

I'm Hector, I listen to all kinds of music but Genesis are among my favourite artists (if such a term could ever be applied), I consistently enjoy their output from 1970 to 1981 and odd bits and pieces from the rest.

  • Hey, just found you through your journal entry. I'm a Jersey girl transplanted in Denmark and a Genesis fan from the Gabriel days. I enjoy a lot of Collins-era stuff too so I'm glad you're encompassing the whole. After many moves and losses, my collection is sorely lacking so I don't listen as much as I'd like to. Will remedy that as time and funds permit. :)

    Cheers!

    Paula

    Hi spacefish,

nice to have you here. How did you come to Denmark? I find that interesting, from Jersey to Denmark...

  • Well, that's rather a funny story...

I met my husband while playing Asheron's Call. We went through the course of chatting in game, to chatting on ICQ, to chatting on the phone, to chatting in person, until one day I found all my stuff packed up in boxes and on its way to Denmark. I just had to follow. Couldn't be without my stuff. ;)

Great story! Even though I would find it interesting, I stop here, because this thread is not really meant for such stuff. Maybe I create another thread about personal discussions...

  • Hi everybody !

I'm from switzerland and having a brother (4 years) older than me, I've been listenning to genesis during my youth !

I listen to a lot of (black) metal, ambient, I also like deejaying (techno/detroit...) and playing drums.

Genesis is part of my life, and I particulary like the Gabriel era.

I'm not a big fan af Gabriels'solo works, except his masterpieces "birdy" and "passion" !

My favourite Genesis albums are Trespass, Nursery Cryme and Selling england by the pound. From the collins era, I adore A trick of the tail, wind and wutherind and duke. I hate the idea that Genesis can exist without gabriel or collins on vocals. For me, it doesn't exist ;-)

You won't see alot of Genesis in my charts as i'm not member of last FM since years ! I've been listenning to Genesis since years, that's the main point I think ;-)

See my profile for more informations !

  • Hi, I've just recently gotten into Genesis, and so far, I have only listened to the Gabriel led years. In particular, Nursery Cryme -> The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway... Anyways, I hope to pick up on some things about them from here... :)

Please feel free to ask questions of whatever sort. Open up a new thread in the forum, if you like. of course Gabriel era is the best, but there is also nice stuff in the later years. I also like Trespass, which has very beautiful songs on it.

  • Hello.

Genesis is awesome...particularly the Gabriel era, but also early Collins era (Trick of the Tail, Wind and Wuthering, Seconds Out).

They are a huge inspiration on my musical endevours.

Hi true Genesis! I used to listen a lot to Gabriel Genesis, and even though I've kinda moved on to other prog, Genesis was the group that introduced me to the great genre of prog.

And every now and then I still listen to Nursery Cryme or the Lamb :D

I moved to more complex prog and to psychedelic/space rock ;), but I still enjoy the good old fashion "mainstream" prog.

  • Hi there! I'm the next Polish Fan of Genesis (but only the Gabriel era). I also love PG solo albums - he's my God of music, as you can notice in my profile ;)

    Hi TG group

TLLDOB has been my all-time favourite album for as long as I can remember. I like it so much, I moved there! Well, not actually for that reason, but I can see the irony.

I admire everything from the Gabriel era (OK, not 'Revelations), and the usual trio of studio/live albums from the early Collins era.

Other musical obsessions are black metal (nearly 1,000 albums -- I need help!), opera (another reason I live where I live), prog/Canterbury, grindcore, 60s garage, analogue electronica, anarcho punk, doom/drone/desert/stoner/space rock, and shoegazing.

Hey all. Looks like a nice group you've got here.

I first got into Genesis when I was 12. I heard "I Can't Dance" on the radio and thought it was very unique and interesting for a pop song. I got the TWWW live album. Then I started reading about Genesis on the web and learned about PG and his costumes, about what a freaky band they used to be, and about how "The Knife" was their original concert anthem, analogous to "I Can't Dance" in the '90s. I bought Trespass, and being unfamiliar with prog or really any late-'60s/early-'70s rock at the time, it utterly confused me. I listened to it until I loved it, and moved on from there.

Controversial opinion: I think Abacab and Trespass are their most underrated albums.

    ABACAB is a turn off

Hi sinisterscrawl. For me, ABACAB is a turn off. It is when I stopped listening (and buying) Genesis albums. I think the album is "too easy" as it is being a collection of 3-part songs ("A", "B", and "C").

Granted I started Genesis from "Foxtrot". I do love Phil Collins, though. In fact, I like Collins better than Gabriel. But as far as music goes, Gabriel era is better. IMHO.

I can understand how people who were into early-era got turned off by the later stuff. They became a completely different band, and it may have been a smarter move for them to change their name around that time. I think what's interesting about Abacab to me is that it sounds like a demented take on a new wave-style pop album. The songs are relatively simple, but all the pieces are unexpected and fresh sounding, to me at least. For better or worse, no one else has ever done anything quite like "Dodo/Lurker."

  • I'll agree with Trespass being underated but I'm pretty anti-ABACAB myself. Don't get me wrong, I love 80's era new wave/college radio whatever you wanna call it, but there were way too many bands doing that sort of thing so much better.

  • Hi there!!!

I'm a chilean fan of the true genesis. Well I love all Genesis album's till the selftitled one.

Their music is very compelling and has been part of my live for over 20 years. With them I discovered and entire new world of music.

Along with Camel and Jethro Tull are my favs, and the only ones I can't see live yet ....
