    The Musical Box Tour 2007

Hi all, another Tour is approaching (and has already started in the US): "The Musical Box" will perform the "Selling England By The Pound" show and in some concerts the rare early "Foxtrot" show.
You can have infos via the official website of The Musical Box.

I think they're a bit expensive, 50 euros for a cover band, not a band that actually composed the music themselves. So me and my friend decided not to get tickets, even though we're both Genesis fans.

Yes, Yes is one of the greatest bands alltime!

Well, they are not just a cover band. They are collaborating with Genesis, they are the only band with an official licence, and what they do, they are doing better than old Genesis, according to the Genesis members themselves (like Peter Gabriel, Steve Hacket or Phil Collins, who all visited a concert of this group). Everyone who I spoke to and who had visited a concert of TMB was full of praise, so I think it's ok. 50 Euros is a lot of money for a cover band, but it's the only chance to get to see the old Genesis shows again.

Thought you'd find this interesting. The band is also doing the Foxtrot tour on selected dates.

I've never seen IMB. This was the outfit that persuaded Collins to get behind a kit with them once, isn't it? Certainly, €50 seems a little pricey a first glance, but then playing this repertoire takes a lot of dedication and practice. Add in costumes, a lighting rig, and the band's expenses, and if they're making a fist of it performance-wise, then suddenly this looks like pretty reasonable value.

The only tribute band I've seen were the UK outfit G2 (http://www.g2online.co.uk/g2home.htm) who I caught playing to a woefully underpopulated venue in Worthing a couple of years ago. They gave it the absolute works, however, and I thought they were simply outstanding. They played material from the Gabriel to mid-Collins era, although having just grabbed the URL from their site, not having visited it for a while, I see they're now promoting a 'Seconds Out' set. If they play anywhere near you, they're well worth seeing.

    OK,

I was at the concert yesterday and I've come back quite happy. It was indeed extraordinary, what they had managed to present. The musicians are excellent, and it was at times as if PG was standing there, even though face and stature don't really match. But at the latest after "The Musical Box", this didn't matter any more. In that song, the singer really convinced me. He was a thousand times better than Phil Collins singing this song. Supper's Ready was part of the show, which I always longed for to see live, and since it was the "Selling England By the Pound"-Tour, also Firth of Fifth was part of the performance. Grrrrreat!!!!

I've seen TMB three times now. 2xSellingEngland and 1xTheLamb. They're SO damn good. Going again in a month's time.

It *is* expensive... but worth it.

Hmmm.. tho I notice many ppl here seem interested in Genesis 2007, which i wouldn't pay £1 for.

If you like Phil Collins Genesis as much as Peter Gabriel Genesis then you might not like The Musical Box as much as I do.. because it's really good and you have cloth ears :)

I'm going to see PC-Genesis just because I want to see it once after I last visited a concert sometime in the earlier 80's, and I hope they don't play songs of the "True Genesis" era (up to 1975). What came later after 1976 is genuine with PC, and there are greate songs, too, which I would like to hear live.

Does anybody know whether they will expand their north-american tour to the west coast? Their website doesn't mention anything. So far they've only been to the east coast during this tour and I hope it's not over after the European shows. Unfortunately I missed them a couple years ago when I was still living in Germany. I'd really like to see them.

You're right, True Genesis fans need to see TMB. I'll be going to the show in Hamburg in November, where they present the "black" Selling England set. I would also go for another Lamb show, certainly.

Here is the setlist of the Selling England tour:

    Watcher Of The Skies
    Dancing With The Moonlit Knight
    The Cinema Show
I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
    Firth Of Fifth
    The Musical Box
    More Fool Me (or) Horizons
    The Battle Of Epping Forest
    Supper's Ready

    Encore:

    The Knife

I saw TMB in New York a while back

I saw TMB in New York a while back. They are the closest thing I have ever seen to a live Genesis show, it was excellent. I saw the Selling England by the Pound Show.

I think they even beat the original 70's genesis, if you compare their sound to those on the original bootlegs, tmb sound muuuuch better :)

Well, that's what Mike Rutherford said after he visited a concert of TMB. And I feel the same: they are perfect.

Boy, that's the first I saw of Genesis...

  • I've been in Frankfurt (Germany) on October 27th, watching the "black" Selling England...

    It was AWESOME!

  • I saw TMB Foxtrot and Lambs Tour... It was one of the greatest experiences in my life. I'm born 72', so it was a really hard timewarp for me... :)

None of this was on the band's website last time I looked.

Don't know how it will be, I've only seen them do PG live tours (SEBTP and The Lamb) which were brilliant, but this will be PC. Hmmm. But I'll be going!

I don't think I'm going. This was the first Genesis show I saw with the original band, so there's no need to go...
Even though there are quite a few songs from the PG era in that show.

  • I love TMB. They played here in Brazil, the entire Lamb concert.

I saw them in Amsterdam where they did The Lamb. They are very good.

  • I saw them at Rome just two week ago. They're incredible.
