    Genesis World Tour 2007

Now, this isn't a hoax: Genesis will go on tour in 2007. Genesis, that are Michael Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins. Yes, Phil Collins will be part of it. On 7th November they'll announce details of the tour. If there will be a new album going along with it, is unclear yet.
Hope you enjoy the news, and I hope I'll get a ticket...

Things are spinning, finally. Genesis without Gabriel or Hackett though. Still I personally wouldn't mind the set of Phil, Tony and Mike either.

"When the first list was being drawn up in the rock and roll book of Genesis, it would have been: In the beginning, God created Pink Floyd."
    -- Rick Wakeman
  • From the website:

An official announcement about the band's plans for 2007 will be made on Tuesday, 7th November. Full details will be made available FIRST on this site at a time to be confirmed.

No further information will be supplied until that date and we respectfully ask that people desist from sending emails, letters and making phone calls for advance information - this will NOT be provided until the official date. Thank you for your patience until then.

hi, i'm happy for this reunion , but i still hope in a FULL reunion... what do you think?

  • i've kind of been to a genesis concert, because my mum was pregnant with me in 1987 when my dad and her went to Wembley to see the Invisible Touch Tour. So I was there in a way =). However, to see them properly in concert would be amazing. I'd like to see them play Los Endos because I think that's a brilliant track live.

  • I think it's at least going to start with Banks/Collins/Rutherford, but perhaps because of all the interest they'll play more older songs? Rather than just an Old Medley, I'd hope they'd be more of an even split between pre and post 1980 material... And if they get Steve Hackett on board, it might be more of a Second's Out type setlist, which would be fantastic.

Of course, if they can get Chester Thompson back we get the Drum Duet, which is awesome (goes someway to make up for the lack of Gabriel and Hackett actually!)

Well, as long as PG isn't part of the set, I wouldn't desire any of the old stuff being part of the concert. I don't like PC singing those songs like Musical Box or so. The drum duet isn't my thing, either.
Today is the day of the interview, so we'll read more here soon... ;-)

  • Well it's not a tour, but a "selection of shows"!

    Twickenham, 7th July - I'm there!

No Supper's Ready, but there was never much chance of that. It's just nice to have things moving really, and as I enjoy most eras of Genesis material, they really couldn't play a setlist I wouldn't like. So while I would have preferred more older material than it seems like there is going to be, this is infinately preferable to no tour at all. And who knows, maybe Gabriel will get on board after his current commitments if this is successful.

But the ticket prices are rediculous... See the prices for Twickenham for example. I won't pay this kind of money just for the trio-lineup.

  • I was really hoping that THIS would be the full reunion ... hmmm ... i still might go though.

That is ridiculous. I paid £80 to go to Hyde Park Calling where the headliners were Roger Waters and The Who. The only way I can afford to go to that is to sit right at the back. Maybe I'm being naive, but I suspect that has more to do witht he promoters than the band. Seriously, it'd be cheaper to go to the free gig in Italy, and I'd probably get a better view. I suspect I'm going to end up paying regardless though, which is how they get away with that I suspect.

Edit: Or we can hope that those prices are toatlly made up and this is a little more accurate. http://www.mojo.nl/agenda/evenement.asp?pid=1047

You know what's happening? There are people who offer tickets for ridiculous prices. They are buying as many tickets as they can, and then sell them again at those prices.
Our son is Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, and he wanted to visit the Hamburg concert. Three days after it was announced I checked for tickets. Well, sold out. Then I found a page, where some ticket shop offered tickets for around 200 Euro. The original price was something around 60 or 70 Euro. The website is claiming that they are acting for others who bought a ticket but can't go there. So they just charge additional commission for their services. Funny thing, three days after the concert date was announced and still 3 months ahead. They most definitely hired some guys to buy tickets for them.

See this note which I just copied from the website where you were:

"The Online Ticket Shop is not affiliated with any box office.
Prices will be above face value on many of our tickets.
Please telephone if you would like to know face value.
All our prices are fully inclusive!"

Let's hope it. I'd give up to 50 euros to go and see them, but not more. The mojo.nl prices are more like it...

I think prices are not the same in different places. But I'm pretty sure that they will range between 40 and 100 Euro, depending on what category you are going to book.
Sale will start on 10th of November, I was told...

  • What I forgot in the last post is that UK tickets go on sale on 24th November, so that site may well be fraugulent.

Ok, I bought my tickets yesterday already, for almost 100 Euro. It's the most expensive category in Hannover. Hamburg is the only place in Germany where the tickets are considerably cheaper. Prices start from 63.50 Euro in Hannover.
It was a presale offer made by eventim, I trust these are the "face value" prices. I didn't have to pay that much for Peter Gabriel, and his shows were always enormously expensive. I wonder how fast they'll be sold out...
Today regular sale for Germany is supposed to start.

I'm saddened that Genesis has told they will perform songs "the masses are expecting to hear from us" so they'll play the hits, like Jesus he knows Me and Land of Confusion, and some medleys of old songs too.

I had high expectations of this comeback, but now it looks like they need more money or something :S.

Maybe when Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett decide to come back they'll play some of their old stuff too :)!

Yes, Yes is one of the greatest bands alltime!

    World Tour???

There's no world tour if they are not coming to Indonesia!!! There many (and I said MANY!!!) Genesis fans in Indonesia. By now, we are (mostly) established persons who have buying capabilities :D

But, if Genesis is not coming here ... you can't call it WORLD tour. Just call it EUROPEAN tour, then.

    -- b, pissed!

Well, it's Europe and North America. But you are right, this is not really a World Tour. But I can't change the title now. Of course they want to make money with this tour. They are only using stdaiums whith seat capacities of 30000 and more. Consider the cheapest possible price of 50 Euro, they get 1.5 Mio. Euro per concert. Deduct costs, there will remain a good share for each of the musicians. They will have analyzed the response in former years and decided to go to places where they are sure to fill the stadiums.
Sometimes its the country's government that makes it difficult, but I don't know about that. I remember that performing a concert in India of that size is extremely difficult to arrange and to get permission for.
I doubt that Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket will get together for a tour. When I saw the promotion pictures, I thought: well, that's another band of old guys who want to get their shares before they can't perform any longer. Let them do it.
My wife called me crazy when I said what I paid for the tickets, and I guess that's what it is. But it's something I always wanted to do in the last twenty years, after I had been the last time to a Genesis concert, and couldn't, so I think the few hundred Euros are worth it, no matter what's being performed.

    music scene here

stadium wise, I don't know the situation here. but, soccer games are very popular here. you can imagine that there are close to 100.000 supporters :)

rock (with various flavors) is gaining popularity. last time, we (prog rock community) created an event with local bands we got 1000 in the audience easily. our next event is to bring Angra here. I'd say the organizer can get 10,000 people easily.

[last band who came here was deep purple. of course rick wakeman and the like have played here, but in smaller circles.]

I've noticed that newer bands, like Dream Theater, is more popular here. Of course there are die hard old prog rockers here (Ping Floyd, Gong, Mahavisnu orchestra, King Crimson, etc.)

To be frankly, I'd love to see Marillion and Porcupine Tree here rather than Genesis. ha ha ha.

anyway, back to genesis "world" tour programme :p

  • They're not coming to North America are they? Because all that's listed are places in Europe. I swear, a concert that my parents would actually allow me to go to, and which I would love to see with all my heart, and it's halfway across the globe. I mean, what did I do to deserve this?! It's torture!!
