    Recommended Tropicalia albums?

Does anyone has any favourite albums that they want to share, or rant about? Perhaps you have some recommendations for those new to Tropicalia?

this El Guincho sounds good, gonna try it

but for the original Tropicália, I suggest (obviously) the Tropicália ou: Panis et Circencis album, but also the 1968 Gilberto Gil album, the 1968 Caetano Veloso album and you can't miss Tom Zé's "A Grande Liquidação", also from 1968

Dada smells of nothing, nothing, nothing.
It is like your hopes: nothing.
    Like your paradise: nothing.
    Like your idols: nothing.
    Like your politicians: nothing.
    Like your heroes: nothing.
    Like your artists: nothing.
    Like your religions: nothing.

Enjoyed the Tom Zé album, thank you! I'd been meaning to check out his stuff, but didn't really know where to start. Are you familiar with his more experimental stuff?

yeeeah man, his experimental stuff is great.

You can begin with "Todos os Olhos", that is a little bit more "listenable"... then you can try his most out there things, like his 2008 album "Estudando a Bossa", that is a demential tribute to Bossa Nova, or even "Danç-Êh-Sá", that is an onomatopeic album, with the vocals consisting almost exclusively of noise, screams, rants and sneezes. Nontheless, a very good album.

Ronnie Von is not really Tropicália, it only influenced them. Like Roberto Carlos

Anyway it must be good to learn about him, I don't really know his music, just read about it

  • New Mix you MUST hear

The famous Stones Throw DJ/Producer Madlib just came out with a 60-minute mix called Speto Da Rua- Dirty Brasilian Crates Volume One. This mix is built of tropicalia and bossa nova samples, and is a wonderful homage to the music. Thing is, I couldn't pick out what song a single one of the samples was. It is painful to not know what these original tracks are; I NEED THEM. So if anyone can help me identify, please please please post here.

    About Ronnie Von

Indeed, I think that as the other Jovem Guarda's Artists, Ronnie Von has always been observant about the musical tendences managed by The Beatles and other english-speech artists. The albuns "Ronnie Von" (released in 69), " A Misteriosa Luta do Reino de Parassempre Contra o Império de Nunca Mais" (69) and " A Máquina Voadora", from 70, reflect aspects of the psychedelism (which was a contextual tendence among this english-speech bands since 66-67 ), but I don't think they (these albums) adhere the "anthropophagic" proposition of Tropicalia.

some relatively new stuff influenced by tropicalia/psychedelia is Kassin, Moreno and Domenico's "+2" project.

there are three albums, each led by one of them. my favorite is Kassin +2's Futurismo. try it ;)
