    Re: my favorites, also alphabetically

Could you tell me something about frou frou and ruby? Never heard them.

  • Ruby had something of a hit with the single "Paraffin" back in '96. I lost track of the group after the first album.
Frou Frou released their solid debut album "Details" in 2002 with the single "Breathe In" getting some radioplay. The group is producer Guy Sisworth's project (he remix Bjork and produced Madonna) with singer Imogene Heap.

    Ruby

Ruby has 2 albums so far, and maybe 3 or 4 remix albums. I think its great because its trip hop with this sort of angry sexuality going on. If it helps, there was a mountain dew commercial with all these screaming girls in it that Ruby did the music for. The second album was a lot less angry, but still worth hearing. You should really check out the remix albums though, as some of the best stuff is on those.

    i'm a little slow...more ruby info

lesley rankine (vocalist in ruby) was also in pigface (industrial) and silverfish (sort of punk, i think?), so ruby definitely has a harder, angrier sound. i wouldn't bother with the first remix album (stroking the full length), but the most recent (short-staffed at the gene pool) is excellent! i think tiny meat was ruby's biggest hit ('95/'96).

i don't know much more about frou frou than what was already said, but they're completely worth checking out.

so here are my favorites, and as i say favorites i mean i like their full (or almost full) dicography.
    Massive Attack (ofcourse)
    Tricky
    Air
    Portishead
    Archive
Vast(none of you mentioned them, they are quite identical with archive)
    Thievery Corporation
    Lamb

there are ofcourse others as well such as
    Goldfrapp
    Airlock
    Mandalay
    Olive
    Gus Gus
    Bang Gang
but I've heard very few their songs so i write them in another list.

Beautiful thoughts means I dream too much

  • There's so many but here's my favorites at the minute

    Cinematic Orchestra
    Blockhead
    Four Tet
    King of Woolworths
    Bonobo
    Skalpel
    Flunk
    9 Lazy 9

I guess some aren't "exactly" trip hop but the definition seems to be rather loose fitting anyway.

  • Amon Tobin is the big one. Champion stuff.
