What was the FIRST trance song ever ?

  • I think it's The Age of Love that was the first, but I'm not sure. I have the new remix, it's nice.

And as people have mentioned, I recently refound Orbital's Halcyon & On & On as well as Robert Mile's Children in an old music collection! I love both to death.

Back in high school, I was working on a documentary project with an exchange student from the University of Leeds in England, who first introduced me to trance music. This was during Paul Oakenfold's Essential Mix series for BBC's Radio 1, back in 1999. So, the first track (well, full mixset, really) that I heard was Part One of Oakenfold's set "Home at Space, Ibiza" from (at least it says this on the mp3) July 25th, 1999. It was that, and the other essential mixes that followed, that were my first introduction into the world of trance and electronic music. Before that, I was basically listening to whatever was on the radio at the time... let me tell you, one listen to the phenomenon called "trance," and there was no going back!

Kinda scary that I remember it that well :)

    I hope this helps.

I'd probably say that Greg Broussard, The Egyptian Lover and Inner City- Good Life was among the first although you could find beginnings of florida break beat in Lisa lisa & the cult jam and other early to mid 80's Free style and break dance music. African Bombata, George Clinton 7 the P-Funk. Franky Knuckles, Carl Craig.

  • Robert Miles for sure, but there were trancey tunes b4 him
