  • I'll probably get my ass ripped to pieces for saying this, but Clff Burton is overrated. Great bass player indeed, but it just seems that people don't even know any other bassists since this kind of threads are always full of these "Cliff Burton!! R.I.P." messages. But anyways, R.I.P for him.

And for the question I'll have to answer Steve DiGiorgio (though he has played in all kinds of metal bands he started his career in Sadus, remember!). Great playing and he has very original bass sound.

Another one that I like very much is Greg Christian from Testament. Very energic playing, and very underrated bass player imo.

Also, I have to mention Janne Joutsenniemi from Stone. Great bass licks in some songs, just amazing!

we live in a fucked up world!

maybe, but cliff is definately not overrated, I mean sure there are some other bass players that are really great, like ones u said, and even Christian Giesler from kreator, or Jason Newsted, and i cannot forget Ellefson, but for me cliff was one of the most influential figures for modern thrash and nowadays youth, and i mean he combined bass overdrive with bass guitar that I'm using today because of him, so by my standards he Is the master of bass but everyone has It's different likings and tastes ;)!

Fuck Cliff Burton, he's the most overrated musician short of Hendrix/Paige/Clapton/Whiny mcbitchybitch faggothead(that sissy from Nirvana), sure he's dead(baww), but that doesn't mean he was any better than living bassists.

Dean Dell, and the bassist from Dark Angel(forgot the bastard's name, bassists and drummers are always shoved out of the spotlight and behind the vocalist and lead, even the rythm gets shoved back, but not as harshly.

I think - bass from Overkill.

  • D.D. Verni is his name^^

My favourite is Steve DiGiorgio, if you can count his bands as thrash metal. If not, its Dan Lilker.

Althought he's more prominent in the death metal scene, I'd still include him among thrash bassists. Testament's Greg Christian is great too. And yeah, Cliff ftw (had to say it!)

  • I think the man that said Steve DiGiorgio is the best there. Cliff was good but well..didn't really give much, just good at the whole thrash thing. And everyone knows him becuase of the band he was in. HEX THEIR NAME.

Steve Harrison was pretty good though aswell and i like this bass on Post Mortem, I think his name is Mark Kelley.

  • Cliff Burton is extremely overrated. Hes in the same vein as Dimebag Darrell - a great player, but since his death hes bueen overrated to the fullest extent of the word.

Best bassist nominees have to go to Steve DiGiorgio and Greg Christian

    R.I.P. Mike Alexander
  • STEVE DIGORGIO
