First thrash metal song.

  • First thrash metal song.

Kay, so. When it comes down to it, I say that War Pigs was the first thrash metal song.

    Here's my logic:

The song is mainly riffs, the lyrics are political and the drumming is the musical equivalent of cocaine. It's obviously thrashy.

Now, the song came out in 1970. The supposed "first thrash metal song," Symptom of The Universe came out five years later. In the five year lapse, Sabbath obviously changed their sound. War Pigs could easily have been considered thrash metal if it had about the same amount of distortion as Symptom, IMO.

    Opinions? =o

  • Hm, tough call. Some believe Queen's Stone Cold Crazy (1974) is the first but I say it really depends on who you ask.

I keep thinking theres some really obscure band out there that probably put out one album that holds the missing link hah.

  • I reckon it was Motorhead.
Nothing before them could be considered to be anywhere near the same genre as thrash.

War Pigs is doomier, but is really a heavy metal song.

As for the definition of thrash above, it applies to any punk or metal song - hell, it applies to The Doors TocarThe Unknown Soldier. I think you need a tighter definition of thrash if this discussion is going to bear any fruit.
