Album "Brilliance"

  • Album "Brilliance"

Has anyone heard of an album called "Brilliance"? It has the same first few songs as the album "Brilliant Corners," but then has a few extras. I got it online from a friend and I can't find info or record of it online anywhere.
    The track listing is:

    Brilliant Corners
    Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are
    Pannonica
    Bemsha Swing
    Jackie-ing
    Straight, No Chaser
    Played Twice (Take Two)
    Played Twice (Take 3)
    I Mean You
    Ask Me Now

    Any help would be appreciated.

It was a combined re-issue of Brilliant Corners and 5 by Monk by 5, though I can't figure out what year it was issued. Hope that helps some. So, from "Jackie-ing" onward, that's the stuff off of 5 by Monk by 5.

    Brilliance

This was a Milestone 2-LP reissue of Riverside's "Brilliant Corners" and "Five by Monk by Five" from the mid-1970s. Both albums are chock full of new Monk compositions, difficult for the sidemen. The cover was a great photo of Monk from 1958 or 1969.

"Brilliant Corners" is the more celebrated masterpiece, but the other session includes "Played Twice", which is as devilishly tricky as any Monk tune.

There's nothing here which isn't on the Complete Riverside box set of Monk.
