Let's liven up this group. Who, among pianists active today, do you think carries on in the spirit of Monk in terms of originality, tonal courage, rhythmic adventurousness, overall creativity or any other characteristic that makes you never get tired of listening to Thelonious?
To answer equinovox's question, I'll reply emphatically to say that Jessica Williams and Misha Mengelberg are the two living pianists who continue Monk's originality, tonal courage, rhythmic adventurousness, etc. I've been obsessed with Thelonious for over 30 years and am tired of every jazz musician in need of proving their credentials playing Monk tributes, but Jessica and Misha never cease to amaze me.
