Best of the Seattle Four!

  • This's a very difficult choice...I would definetely say Alice in chains before an year, but sooner I realised that Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots are not worse...I love all of them...Maybe if I make my choice, it would be like that:
    1. Alice in chains (Because of Layne, the killing lyrics and touching music)
    2. Pearl Jam (Thanks to Eddie's voice and the best songs ever made)
    3. Nirvana (good stuff, but fucking commersial band..also I hate when people associate grunge only with this shitty group)
    4. Soundgarden (Great band, but not even wothy to be mentioned with Pearl Jam and Alice...)
In a nutshell - PJ and AIC for me are the best

It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven...

    1. Alice in Chains - this band just rocks
    2. Pearl Jam - Ten is one of my favourite albuns of all time
    3. Nirvana - way too overrated but it isn't bad. Have some pretty good songs but also have some bullshit
    4. Soundgarden - i know three songs: Black Hole Sun , Outshined and Spoonman. 3 great songs but these are the only ones i know so..

  • 1. Soundgarden
    2. Pearl Jam + Alice in Chains
    3. Nirvana

but Mad Season andTemple of the Dog beat out all but soundgarden; Candlebox and Days of the New are great too... days of the new probably beats out #2 down... and they definitely contest soundgarden, mad season, and temple of the dog.

  • Pearl Jam without a doubt in my mind

  • Seattle has such kickin' music.

    1. Pearl Jam
    2. Soundgarden
    3. Alice in Chains
    4. Nirvana

  • NIRVANA.in my opinion, this band reflects the perfect sound of grunge.

  • Take a sheet of paper and draw a typical grunger, the hair, clothes, face, imagin his behavior: doesn´t he look just like Eddie Vedder in early 90´s? (or kind of a droopy blond, nevermind, I can see Eddie...) TEN is best album ever. Eddie´s always on the top.

    *1 early 90´s Pearl Jam
*2 Alice in Chains (with Layne Staley, I hate AIC´s new singer, nothing personal but no one can replace Layne)
    *2 Pearl Jam again
*4 Soundgarden (too metal for 1st place in grunge chart, idiot Cornell what he have done with his hair!)

*Nirvana is somewhere between the worst and the best, or it is both of these. They are too good to be true, I love them but I incredibly hate them, I realy can´t stand them. I don´t know more inconsistent music band. I think Nirvana killed Grunge. Grunge could rule the world, but now most of people think Grunge = drunken, drug addicted, screaming, bleached teenager, if people see me, they mostly say "Ugh...she is "Grunge"...she does´t wash her hair...she is drunken...she wants to hurt us with her guitar...she drugs...she wants to commit a suicide......"Just because of Nirvana. Nirvana was the worst thing what could happen to Grunge.

One more thing: Grunge is always first.

Long live to Seattle underground, nothing is better, nothing will be so great!
    And happy birthday to Matt!

I don't understand how anyone can say that Soundgarden is the worst of the Seattle-bands. I mean their songwriting was by far the best and ad to that Cornell's voice as it was during the 90's. The only band that's even close is Pearl Jam but they don't have the quality in song-writing. Just listen to "the day I tried to live" or "Jesus Christ pose" and anyone has to realize that none of the other bands wrote anything remotely close to that.
    1 Soundgarden
    2 Pearl Jam
    3 Alice in Chains
    4 Nirvana

  • I didn´t say that. I love Soundgarden. It´s one of my favorite bands and one of the best bands ever. Cornell´s voice was realy great, Thayil is guitar mage, Cameron is unequalled drummer... Soundgarden is best, but PJ is better.
And I´am remiding I said Nirvana is worst, not Soundgarden. I am sorry.

Soundgarden. This band opened to me the world of music an new. ... Undoubtedly, Chris is talented... How many to them I listen - do not bother

  • 1. Alice in Chains:

Layne and Jerry have awesome vocals, and the lyrics are amazing

    2. Pearl Jam

Vedder has such a powerful voice, and his songs are incredible. Even solo he is awesome, but with Pearl Jam he makes greatness

    3. Nirvana

At times funny, at times serious, I love how Cobain was able to shift back and forth from songs like In Bloom, Heart Shaped Box, and Smells like Teen Spirit to songs like Rape Me.

    4. Soundgarden:

I actually have not really been into Soundgarden until recently, and a few months ago The Stone Temple Pilots would rank here, but they have grown on me. Some great stuff here.

    5. STP

The Stone Temple Pilots were good at finding riffs that are catchy and putting vocals to them that perfect them. Then Weiland got arrested, and w have him prancing around in scarves in Velvet Revolver...

    Layne Staley forever!

    Nirvana

Best lyrics and a very good drummer

  • 1. Alice in Chains
    2. Pearl Jam
    3. Nirvana

One of the things you learn after years of dealing with drug people, is that you can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug.
  • @ AliceInChains15: Stone Temple Pilots aren't I think a seattle band and that's why no one mentions them..If they were I would have put them before Nirvana and Soundgarden

It's raining, raining, raining deep in heaven...

So far - Alice in Chains....but then I haven't listened to Nirvana. It's funny...based on many of the comments, people seem to have AiC either in the first place, or in the last place. (Not all of course).

  • 1.)AIC-Layne was the greatest vocalist of the past few decades IMO. Plus all the instruments are always played perfectly esspecially jerry cantrell.
2.)SoundGarden-Chris has got major Talent and still does plus im a drummer..and well..just listen to jesus christ pose and you'll see.
3.)Pearl Jam/Nirvana-2 good bands but pearl jam has some great songs like jeremy But nirvana does too like heart shaped box
(STP would be right after SG if they were in the running.)

    1) Soundgarden
    2) Alice in Chains
    3) Pearl Jam
    4) Nirvana

Pearl Jam's just another band I like, nothing really outstanding. The only Nirvana song I like is Come As You Are. Everything else by them is bleh.

  • 1. Nirvana
    2. Pearl Jam
    3. AiC and Soundgarden

And as the soft pretentious mountains
Glisten in the light of the trees
And all the flowers sing in D minor
    And the birds fly happily
We'll be together once again my love
I need you back oh baby baby

    1. Nirvana
    2. Alice In Chains
    3. Pearl Jam
    4. Soundgarden

All are very good bands, Nirvana will always occupy a special place for me though, I grew up with that music and the lyrics and legend of Kurt Cobain still resonant in a very meaningful way today. Alice in Chains are lyrically not as strong as Nirvana I believe but Layne had a very tragic life, his lyrics are absorbed in this, make it difficult to listen to at times, Nirvana whilst a lot of it was Kurt's own feelign also grew to represent a state of though for the youth of the times, this is why he is the Jesus of grunge and Layne is only John the Baptist, lol. Cantrell's guitar playing is also quite generic, whereas Kurt whilst not possessing the chops and technical porficiency managed to craft something rather unique, his guitar playing complemented his songwriting and it works so well. Pearl Jam I like but can't help but see as something of a stadium rock band with unwashed hair. Eddie's lyrics are interesting and the band are clearly all excellent musicians, but there is no competition between them an Nirvana for me. Finally Soundgarden not because I think they're a bad band, but I just never really got into them.
