i haven't had any weed for like three weeks :(

  • I feel ya. I'll probably be out for at least two weeks. On the upside, our tolerance is diminishing.

"Such research is in the very early stages, but it does back up clinical evidence that marijuana can cause paranoia and schizophrenic-like symptoms in some people. If schizophrenia runs in your family you should probably avoid marijuana."

    Not for me.

I haven't got weed in 14 months. I don't miss it don't think I'll ever smoke a joint in my life. But it was whole lotta fin back in the days of powerful liver.

  • It's never relaxed me - it makes me completely paranoid and sets thoughts racing around my head until I want to pass out. I haven't smoked in around 10 years, and that was thai stick, in a beach hut, having just been dumped by a lady. Never again, and that applies to any smoke going into my lungs.

    This is very good though.

I've never smoked weed! I'm lame!

Mostly because I know it'll have the same effect on me that the general described above.

Tilaton, there have been many studies like that, and what they actually indicate is not that marijuana use causes schizophrenia and psychosis but that people with a pre-disposition to schizophrenia and psychosis tend to use marijuana to self-medicate. Not everyone should use it. Different people's brains have different chemical compositions which react differently to different chemical input. Still, I've read a lot of studies on the supposed long term effects it has and I've never been convinced of it's danger, especially considering the well-documented thousands of years of traditional use.

  • There was a time when it made me paranoid and anxious. That was mostly in High School, and I was generally more anxiety-prone at that age. Sometimes I get a little antsy when I smoke, but it's gone for the most part. The type of bud factors in, too.

I'm not saying there is a big risk, but I know one case where use of marijuana seems to have been one of the triggers on a severe case of schizophrenia. A girl I used to go out with a long time ago.

It is extremely hard to prove by scientific study as it is not a common thing and you can always argue that it was a coincidence. I'm not here to argue about the validity of the connection, just saying that the possibility of it has kept me far away from these substances.

If you don't have a potential for schizophrenia I think you'll be just fine. It is a bit like with the swine flu vaccination and that narcolepsy thing.

Edit. One factor on this is the breeding of stronger marijuana plants to get a stronger high. The stuff they smoked in the 60s was a lot less potent than people do these days.

Edit2. I must underline that I have nothing against people smoking and hope I didn't give that idea with my posts. I'm just saying be careful.

For sure the type of bud will have different effects on you. I know way too powerful types of weed will make me feel strange if I smoke it while sober. Mild forms of it are just fine though.

I'm on the fence about this one. On the one hand, it's one the better stoner films i've seen in a while. But it kind of hurts to watch the protagonist make awful decision after awful decision. Douche chills galore.

It's also quite a departure from Araki's previous film, the harrowing Mysterious Skin

Yeah, this gets thrown around a lot by the anti-weed people (not saying you're one of them), but it's misleading for a few reasons. First, I've heard varying figures, different people saying weed today is anywhere from twice to ten times as potent. If you take potency to mean THC content, then some of these higher multipliers would mean weed that is somehow over 100% THC. You can also still easily find low to mid grade weed, at least in the US with its proximity to Mexico. In actuality, the means for producing high-quality cannabis have improved and become more widespread, so there's just a lot more good weed on the market, especially with the medical MJ movement creating a standard of dank headies.

This was from a 70s high times article on the best strains at the time:

Yeah, I figured the talk about huge increases in potency were probably one sided "information". The point is to be careful and probably avoid the most potent ones, just like with booze you don't want to go to the deep end too much.

  • LSD was supposedly three times as potent in the 60s as the stuff available today.

I believe weed works exactly the way Burroughs puts it in Naked Lunch' appendix. It's an amplifier of emotions. If you're paranoid it will make you go nuts, if you're having fun it will make you happy. I enjoyed watching movies after smoking, playing board games, reading, but going out wasn't always very successful. The biggest disadvantage was hunger. Weed made me eat terrible things. Just terrible.

Anyway, I'm sitting next to gloath with my muesli, yogurt and mineral water.
