TME TV: The Trifling Media of Idiot Children

  • TME TV: The Trifling Media of Idiot Children

    This one's long overdue.

I am currently loving Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead and Modern Family.
I still believe in Mad Men, True Blood and Eastbound & Down.
I tolerate Dexter and 30 Rock like old friends I've outgrown but still go drinking with to pass the time.

The only properly shameful thing I watch now is No Ordinary Family. Glee became indefensible on any level.

At the moment the only thing I'm watching from the idiot box is New Tricks.

After Carnivale and Deadwood I've been disappointed at everything American TV has had to offer.

Agreed, been needing a TV thread, although the titling was a bit confusing. I thought we were staring a TV show 'till I opened it.

My favorite show at the moment would probably be Modern Family.

I'm looking to going home for Thanksgiving so I can catch up on my True Blood. I don't even know how Season 3 ends, but from what I heard it was enjoyable. The last episode I saw was the one where Talbot was staked called "Night on the Sun".

Superb thread, great title. We were using the movie thread for TV chat, weren't we. It always made me feel uncomfortable.

  • Those were dark days indeed.

Any British TV worth watching at the moment? I can't think of anything. There's a new series of Peep Show on soon. I watch The Trip, but that's really for want of anything more substantial. It's a pretty sorry state of affairs really. No decent dramas, nothing at all.

  • I still think Modern Family is vastly overrated.

I continue to watch Glee despite it being awful. It's basically an hour in which my friends sit there and yell about how much we hate Schue, the show, and everything. For some reason I also haven't stopped watching Gossip Girl yet. Also terrible.

Bored to Death is legitimately good, but the season ended last night.

That was then, this is dumb.
  • I watch most of my TV online. I am currently watching the 5th season of the Wire, House of Cards, and Peep Show (patiently awaiting the next series). I stopped dling torrents of Boardwalk Empire, but I haven't completely given up on it. Saw the Walking Dead last night, and it was alright.

30 Rock is tolerable in the same way as Family Guy. I won't make an effort to watch it, but i won't leave the room when it's on.

    House of Cards.

The English series from the 90s? Stranger and stranger.

  • All of my television comes through DL's and Netflix.

I've watched Walking Dead so far, and will continue to do so. It's been good so far, but I think these next few episodes, seeing where the plot goes and such, will decide whether I keep up or not.

My housemates and I just started season one of Dexter this past weekend. It's okay, but for a guy who loves crime thrillers I'm not enjoying it as much as I figured I would. I don't like any of the characters, and find myself watching only to try and find out the identity of the ice truck killer.

Lastly, I've got like two episodes of Arrested Development left, but that one I am also watching with my three other housemates so it's taken a while to fit in episodes. I'll be sad when it ends, shame it was on FOX and no one knew about it at the time.

Will: British television - not sure. Peep Show I've been hanging out for for a year. And Spooks is delightfully stupid, though I haven't seen the current series, and it sounds more stupid than usual. I'm mostly watching old series at the moment.

  • Spooks genuinely disgusts me. I've only had a glimpse since the early episodes, but when I last watched it they were desperately trying to emulate US TV in the tritest ways imaginable. There's only so many times we can roll out the 'so bad it's good' defence for our television output - Skins, Hollyoaks, Spooks. It's just shit.

  • Oh. Sherlock's good. I'm being kind, cos it thought it was much better than it was. And Moriarty was just ridiculous - a 5 foot 5 John Simm-type who looked more anaemic than he did threatening. But it's better than most crap we put out by a country mile.

You might well think that; I couldn't possibly comment

  • Oh vey good.

I find it really impressive that a small screen parliamentary drama from 20 years ago would be getting watched by some guy in New Jersey. It actually makes me feel really proud of the BBC, which is about as close as most of us get to patriotism these days.

How did you hear about it?

  • It was "suggested" to me by Netflix , actually. I'm always up for some series about ruthless Machiavellian politics. Only other non-comedic British programing I've gotten familiar are those Adam Curtis documentaries, and The Sharps series, which my friends really got into. Though House of Cards is still something of a comedy, since it is a satire.
Also have The World at War on queue.

Oh, The World at War! Made a deep impression on my childhood. I still think of World War II as a 70s TV show with grainy title graphics.

Next you'll be watching Allo Allo.

  • I remember seeing extended commercials for the Time Life Video collection of it for years. I'm sure I must of caught some of it on the History Channel-- back when they actually aired historical programming. * wistful sigh *

  • I've also been loving The Walking Dead. I'm about to start on Bored To Death and Modern Family. I've heard Bored has gotten better with pretty much every episode, so I'm looking forward to that. Anyone else been keeping up with Delocated or The Venture Brothers?
Also, anyone else underwhelmed with the Eastbound season finale? It was a pretty good episode, but it really felt like it should have been the start of season three instead of ending season two, especially after Chapter 12 wrapped everything up so well.

If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

I have to watch last 3 episodes of Jeeves & Wooster. After reading The Code Of The Wooster and Aunts Aren't Gentlemen I'm not so crazy about this series anymore. Also recasts are annoying.

    Next up is Paranoia Agent.

No love for Community? It might be the best comedy on television right now (at least until Parks and Rec comes back from hiatus). Additionally, Children's Hospital isn't the worst way to waste 12 minutes.

Recently canceled shows: I urge everyone to watch Party Down on Netflix. It's a shame it isn't coming back for a third season. Also Better of Ted, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and MTV's the State are on Netflix too.

You guys are making this show sound real cool to me. I'm a poli sci grad student tho so that might be why.

Agreed, 'cept I don't have the degree yet. My roommate has Netflix, so I'mma have to look it up.
